Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Hello my fellow Ragezoners
so 2 days after my purchase of Bad Company 2 i regret buying it and after checking EAs Return Policy it says that i cant return a game if it has already been downloaded... this means i had no chance to even get a return because the instant i bought my game it downloaded it in the very same second. So i wrote to EA complaining about the return policy and the answer i get back is "Then go buy the other game" right when i read that i got pissed. because i wanted my money back and i dont have the money i need to buy the other game.
And for you guys who are too lazy to read all of the above ill explain it in a few words
Me dont like EA
And now some alternative names for EA
EVIL ASSHOLES
ELECTRONIC ASS
EXTREME ASSES
ELEPHANT ASS
Whats your opinion about EA?

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
so, we all have games we don't play. Grow up

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
There is no way of them being able to tell if you no longer use the game. If you want to return games then don't buy them online.

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
I don't understand why you would think that you could return a game that you downloaded..
Common sense is dead.

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
It's not just EA. It's the new trend in the game industry. Lock a purchase to a one-use type deal so you can't get a refund and you can't easily or safely sell your copy of a game to another person.
It's a corporatism inspired idea. Blame corporatists. Basically, it's "bad" to let an end-user resell a product they purchased and now legally own because that's one more sale you don't get to make (yes, that logic is horrendously flawed, but there you have it).

Do you hate Starbucks because you can't return a coffee after it's been drank?
If you don't read things like this you spend your money un-informed and put it up to risk, people like EA don't leave it up to chance they have their asses covered it's up to you to cover yours too.

Games like COD , BF2 and so forth require unique keys, sure you can crack/bypass or use cracked servers but theres nothing like a real authentic server, as in the thread creators case, he was asigned a key and that is non refundable.

From what I can gather, just as in the USA, the protocol of a game is not subject to copyright, but it may be patentable (although it's probably impossible due to prior art). A server developed, even if by reverse engineering (which again, violates the EULA or TOS agreed to by the programmer, it does not violate an actual law), is not subject to the copyright along with the "works" as they refer to them (we're talking ONLY the client and accompanying content here, the server is encumbered with other laws, not just copyright, but to my knowledge, you're not hosting their server which would in fact be illegal). So hosting a private server doesn't infringe upon any rights reserved by Codemasters or the owners of the IP rights of the game, as the product in question is not subject to the same copyright. They may reserve the rights to operate the "official server software," but not one written by a completely separate party.
Silly silly game companies. What noobs.

I don't know that there is a DMCA in the UK, but under US law, they found that in that specific case, because BNET used cdkeys to validate player access, that bnetd was violating the copyright protection circumvention clause in the DMCA since the cd keys were considered a DRM to the content on the CD and on bnet.
There are several things that made this possible that most games don't do. In the case of RF, even though at that time I don't think it was F2P, it is now, which makes such a ruling impossible or at least highly unlikely without a company pulling some magic out of their ass, but RF also has never been in the same situation.
Now that I re-read the summary judgements in those cases, I can't help but think that the judges were complete morons. The actual use of bnetd wasn't explicitly designed to circumvent DRM and it didn't explicitly (they didn't distribute the media nor did they say "play on our servers, you can do it with a pirated copy!"), it was a server project made to be interoperable with the client, the judge clearly was heavily fixated on the fact that this server could be connected to by pirated copies of the game that the actual point of the case was confused with piracy. Their appeal should've been accepted, the EULA portions should've been thrown out, and while the cdkeys can be seen as a DRM, it doesn't activate that clause of the DMCA because it's shielded by the interoperability clause. I wonder if it was ignorance, partly arrogance, or just a big payoff that resulted in that verdict. In any case, it's just plain bad, and a horrible interpretation of law, which is probably why it's never been used in case law, nor any other decisions like it have been made (though some which directly contradict it have been made by higher courts, not supreme, however, which may supersede that ruling and make bnetd legal again).

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
The reason I hate EA is that they manage to ruin every game they touch. Red Alert 2 was a brilliant game, back when they only published games. They had a hand in making Red Alert 3 and it sucks
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Should of downloaded the demo before purchasing, that's why they have those for... Also you make sure to read the download and return policy before buying anything, for any company.
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Its just like anything you buy, read up everything about it.
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
My opinion against the EA isn't anything else than that, because they makes 100 games, but any of these isn't good. Why they wouldn't use time of creating 100 games for create one good game.

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Im pumped up for the release of Medal of honor. But if its like beta, they can expect shit from me.
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
you bought a food, eat it until half, you decided to return it and get a complete refund, *got rejected*, then you're wacking off. Yes, you look like that.
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
lol , but why does ea suck, i mean they have the worst customer service
-
Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Seriously... Do you expect a store to take back a used condom? Or how about your local bagel shop taking back a half eaten bagel? Or returning some used toilet paper?
Really... If you didn't want it in the first place then why on Earth would you buy it to begin with?
NoPeace - out

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Indeed.
As for EA, well they are known for making shit.
For a second I had some hopes for Need for Speed World. Played it. While it's not the worst thing I ever played, it still only ranks slightly higher then that piece of poop on a stick.

Re: Why i Hate Electronic Arts
Stop bitching, everyone hates something
I hate Activision for sacking one of the best game devs in the world, but you don't see me getting off my chair to write a complaint.. you know why? Because some person in India or China is going to read your letter, and send you back a automated email saying your suggestion has being taken under consideration.
