Redoing Pinned Topic, Need Some Feedback!

Hey everybody.

I don't normally make topics in here since it isn't my style. I just passively moderate the section usually now since majority of the questions are repeated questions that have been answered previously.

Anyway, to the point! The topic I made here--

Is pretty old. In fact, it was exactly 1 year and 1 day old until I edited it today and added the message at the top. While the advice is good, it would be both better and easier on those interested in Priston Tale private server development, if files that weren't so old were recommended.

Of course, that is assuming there is something better out there right now. The word "better" might not be the correct word to use since what is considered "better" varies from person to person.

To put it simply, do you guys feel that there is a more "solid" server and game.exe to recommend in that thread? Currently, it suggests QuantumFusion's game.exe (good) and FusionPT server (iffy).

Any suggestions will help. Even if the suggestion is "I have no suggestions". Thanks!

Ouch, yeah well... that's some pretty old stuff, and QF's client while clean and a very good point to start for anyone, lacks features all around compared to current repacks out there. Depending if Legacy is still around or not i'd consider offering my own setup, but it's not bug-free as there are approx 6 missing javs and for the life of me could not fix the admin Notice function on login.

I haven't actually tested this, but if it checks out, the age 20+ and the Phoenix Pet + Endless Tower setup is decent. However it lacks a client, which brings you back to square one doesn't it?

I've been out of the loop so long now im not sure, hopefully you find a decent pack to put together.

As for the entire thing, I think a compilation of a specific Website/scripts, and Client/Server to use would be best instead of confusing people with serveral links to different ones. And a general FAQ on what does/doesn't fully work that includes: MSSQL secruity issues with Clan scripts, and port forwarding information which tells which ports to open might pull up less help topics.

I think the "Ultimate Release" of Shagpubs ET2 v2 server release was the most stable. But JayMokos' server is a strong competitor with some good updates for those who are interested in the newer features and Premium items.

We need a fully translated / easily translatable 19xx client. No such thing exists, yet. You surely know I am working on it, and I suspect others are too.

So it depends on whether you are looking for something stable for beginners to set up, or something contemporary that will play like the current official servers.

I frequently have to say, there is nothing that matches both these criteria. It's either solid, OR it's up-to-date, it can't be both.

With the added difficulties of getting it to run on modern x64 based dedi servers, the situation for PT as anything but a home hobby is pretty grim. Hence why I applaud and encourage attempts to try to get it to run well on Linux under Wine, or to write an Open Source server that can be compiled at any OS & Database target.

At least Wine will always be a possibility on Linux. Windows servers don't have the "backwards compatibility" options that their desktop equivalents have... they just expect you to buy newer versions of the server software. >.<

That's my "opinion", for what it's worth. And if you hold up on updating that pinned thread for 6 months, Jay may have his server "clean" enough to be a viable alternative, and I may have Butchered in a translated form. But I suspect neither of us can make any promises on that. :wink:

I forgot the Spcute server and client. Totally incompatible with anything else, and far from bug free, but an excellent, and more up-to-date server and client which crucially are matched.

The client I worked on was not 19xx so I cant contribute there. These days the latest stuff is sold for real money, it's a shame really.

Since we don't discuss people selling products which have legal Licensees and a single distributor (namely Triglow) for commercial licensing. I don't know anything about that.

What I do know is that I have never asked for money for anything I release, and Butchered pretty much "the latest stuff"... it's just not in English, or Brazilian, or Chinese. XD JayMoko has made a point that he is not prepared to charge for his server, which is about as current as you can get. And Vormav and Wormy do not charge "real money" for their releases either.

So I think you are being pessimistic Cloak. We are not all money grabbing evil people.

Also from what I gather of that which Gregoory has not released freely (and he releases a lot that he asks nothing in return for) it is mostly Web-ware, for which I'm sure he provides support to his "customers", and I'm also sure he does not charge for modified versions of proprietary software.

Note:

I have no knowledge of the arrangements he makes with those he shares that which he does not post publicly, or indeed whether "real money" is in fact the criteria. There are other forms of payment which can be offered for services, if they are acceptable to both parties. Not least of which, and which so many people in this modern world neglect, may be "friendship".

I haven't release some of my account manager because I have no way to protect the code (since it's PHP mostly) and prevent greedy bastards from stealing and selling under their name.
It has happened in the past (DoMi sealing a stolen preview of Lunar manager and selling it to trnh1).

So yeah if I could compile PHP to binary it would be available already =P.

Oh and I accepted money too. As a reward for my work (3 years of work on a server). But I never charged for help. I help, and if you wanna reward, i won't say no, otherwise, keep your money to pay the host =P

To answer the topic, the most awesome topic ever would be a link to server4096.exe (which is the clean, non-gfantasied stolen server), and all the necessary tutorials to turn it into the latest kPT whatever.
But that.. lol is just a dream.

Jolly good show. I've not been paid for anything PT related... but I've never asked to be paid either.

And I like idea for your "ideal" thread.

I'm facing with problems of client connecting to server (with the KPT ET3 AIO & Update 1.2 Release by Trungnt88), that is:
- Client always look for loopback connections, not by reading config from the config file such as ptReg.rgx
- I don't know how to customize the game items
I think that can be a common problems for normal people like me with all PT server releases, too. And I really want to know how to develop a new server as you did in the past but I have no clues.
If you can, pls help me by giving me some clues, thanks for reading.

Client only looks on loopback if it is set to do so in the configuration files. There isn't really any default in the KPT ET3 clients.

I think I should give more info about my client, I downloaded KPT1872 from Korean PT Website, run PsTale(test).exe and was updated to KPT1977 (as it shows), then I copied the KPT1977 client from the server KPT ET3 Release by trungnt88 and renamed it to game.exe, that's all.
I checked connecting status by TCPView (from sysinternals.com) and found that client are looking for connection from TCP port 10009 at loopback, not at the PC installed KPT ET3 AIO server.

These files attached along, are some pictures I think you need to get more info:
1) My TCPView running and captured game.exe status (i.e KPT ET3 client included with server release)
2) My registry that stores the IP connection info
I hope they are helpful to you, and in the case you know what I should do, pls give some clues, thanks again for your help.

Comment out TestVersion" "1993" Like down below.
Try to connect without the TestVersion number.
Also did you try testing with 127.0.0.1 Instead of "192.168.23.198" If so disregard this.

I'm back using "Ultimate Release" of Shagpubs ET2 v2 server release and KPT Client 1871, based on your PPT - it's connected.
But I've found a problem of aging, Items raised level when aging got each +2 for all items, even items level 100, are there any way to prevent raising level of specific-level items from aging, ex. items level 90 ? Can you guide me to solve that ?

Sorry to bump and old(er) thread, and IDK how xcfman managed to hijack this thread but... Additional input (translation) from Osirus mean that Butchered may now be a suitable replacement for QF1873.

I'd open it to the opinion of others though (I am somewhat bias). Maybe open a poll? IDK.
