The only private servers/files I don't agree with are World of Warcraft because they're complete shit compared to the real thing. But no, I don't think we should "just stop" because for some people it's a challenge to get the files/make them work and to progress their understanding of it further. They use design concepts of the official game, which is intellectual property, and therefore copyrighted. The name of the item, the name of a map, the name of a monster. I'm fairly sure even the routines for interpreting and transmitting data to the client is also copyrighted, so as long as you use the official client it's illegal.Quote:

The question shouldn't be whether or not it's illegal, it should be whether or not it's harmful for the gaming industry, as music downloading is for the music industry. We as gamers should care if us playing private servers cause worse games due to less money. As I see it, most MMOs doesn't lose enough (if anything) to private servers for that to be an issue.

point is, i played rs pservers back in 06, a month later i was a memeber on offical rs. i played wow pservers 2 years ago, up untill this month i was subscribed. There's alot more people this happens to then you'd expect. people get bored of bugs but enjoy the game and want to play it even more. You'd also be surprised at the amount of friends i have that torrent an album, and if it's good, will buy it on itunes.
