Don't share how you did this. Don't let noobie competitors to get it easy, just without thinking.

I agree with this. These forums arent about your Perfect World Private servers, they are about Perfect World Private server development as a whole. These forums exist so that we can provide server files, tools, guides, and fixes so that others can create their own Perfect World. If you have something that helps others and development then please do share. Remember that you would not even have the server files, tools, fixes and guides if it wasn't for someone sharing in the first place. This community is built on sharing, without sharing it wont exist. So show some appreciation for those that have shared before by sharing yourself.

+3, anyone who is not willing to share does not belong here, we are a sharing community :)
i have agree with all. but why must share a simple guide? and some one will replay i have using this, i have know this :lol:
My response was more directed at Du100's post about not sharing. Im wasnt telling you to make a guide, however ...
A guide would be useful for the following reasons:
1 - Someone else has this problem long after you have left the Perfect World private server scene, with no guide they will be helpless.
2 - Everyone needs extremely detailed guides these days, even for the simplest of things. You can almost be certain that someone else will have this problem in the future.
You had a problem that you werent quite sure to how to solve so you posted here. Fortunately, you managed to solve it yourself, but what if you hadnt been able to solve it? You would have been gratefull for a guide or information on how to solve it wouldn't you? Hence why you should explain how you fixed it.
A note to all:
If you do have a problem and you manage to solve it, please post how you solved it. I can't list how many times I have had a problem that someone solved but didnt say how.

Understandable. I would rather make it easy for new people though. I want to try to eliminate all the questions that new people have so we dont have to repeat ourselves like we have be doing. I know this doesnt exactly teach people to get off their ass and learn things themselves but it will keep the forums cleaner. Even if you do try and solve it yourself sometimes you just cant and do need help.
Anyway I can understand why you dont want to post how you did it.
Yes, 1st guides was shared, and without them I would never make e PW server. BUT these guides is the basic, wich helpes yu to "get up on legs". After that you start to sking yourself how to do this or that, and whitout guides you have to search the solution yourself. And you can distinguish your server on background of other servers, you can get up online, you can earn with that on donation. And now you tel, that we need to share everything, to progress all PW servers. They will just use it, withouth thinking. And your share will just like a christmas gift on the summer. And then your server will not distinguish on background of other servers, you will be just like everyone, after all that work you done.
Yes, we need to share, but we need to share how to find the way how to fix something, but not fixes them all. And than who has ears will see.
For example:
Good way: "Hey guys, check out b05 client map."
Bad way: "Hey guys, I found something interesting in the client. It's b05 map. It's so cool. Here is guid how to get up this map, and all configs to this map."
*whistles*
Ill just leave this here
Bad example entirely on your part, and I completely disagree with you, Im all for letting people know how I did things in exchange for the simple fact that most of the people here like ronny1982 contribute so much to what we have for tools, pwAdmin is probably by far the most used tool by all of us and how wonderfully great sELedit is, its quite simple really, you want to be able to further your own development, you have to contribute something in return, no one likes leeches
@Du100
I was not saying to share the secrets that make your server unique. I saying to share what will help others.
Yes these are the base on which you can build your own server. However as you may know these server files are old and many things are broken. What many people are working hard to do is provide a base set of server files that mimic as closely as possible the official server. Along with these a collection of powerfull editing tools so that you can make you own Perfect World from these files. You would be a fool to try and host a private server that mimics the official and expect it to be distguished from others. A successful server will be one that has a large selection of custom content, something that cant be found in the official.
This is understandable, however, sometimes even if you do search you still cannot find what you are after. Thats why you post here, so that others can offer help based on their experiences. Are you telling me you want to not help others because you dont want them to have official content in their server?
No. I never meant for everything to be shared, just that which is beneficial to others. eg If you make a custom model this is something that is entirely up to you whether you share. It is something you created and is unique to your server. However what I ask is that you share the process so that others can also create their own custom content, not that you share the content.
There are plenty of things you can do to your server that will distiguish it from others. Create custom content, custom quests, custom models, custom GUI. These are not what I asking you share, it is up to you.
eg I was planning to make custom weapons. I was planning on making a staff for instance. Then change the property of the staff to ranged so that when you attack it fires arrows. Then you would change the arrow to a different projectile so that it looks like a blast of magic or something. Something like this idea you do not have share since it is something that you would have created that would distinguish your server. It would be nice to share the process but since this is entirely your system you dont have to.
This is a terrible example to get your point across. Map b05 is not, and will not be unique to your server. Many others will put this in their server, hence, you cannot hope to use this as something that will distiguish you server from others. The same goes for what started this discussion. It is about a fix for an error when importing weapons from the official server into yours. These are not your weapons, you did not make them, and others will put them in their servers. Once again this will not distinguish your server from others.
Do you see what Im getting at? Its more the process of how to do things that should be shared, not the content. Anything from the official servers should be shared since it is not your content, its something you took from the official. If you want a successful private server, you need to make your own tracks in the snow, not follow PWE's tracks.

Yeah-yeah-yeah. And now remember abaout thousands of noobs, that don't want to think, they just want to get it work. And these people making thousands PW servers, on wich playing a couple thousands players. And now think, who take a big part of players. No, not people who understand how, but people who has just a dream about what they want to.
You dont get the point we are trying to make do you? "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for the rest of his life.", so many things you can use the quote for, if I was MentaL I woulda banned you into oblivion by now for you thinking you are some elitist that believes everything is theirs and everyone must bow down to you because you are the all mighty Du100
And what exactly is the issue with that, you are getting at the elitist position again, so what if someone makes a tool that makes everyones lives easier? Where is the harm in that, oh right, if you dont do everything by changing it in a hexeditor and code everything in asm you are a noob
