I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Ok so maybe some have been there with different kinds, but it has to be truly insane.
Basicly I had my wisdom tooth removed with 2 other molars, now my wisdom teeth destroyed those 2 because I didn't have it removed when I should have and instead walked around with it for years.
A while ago it got really infected, the pain was completely fucked up, I had days where I took about 12+ ibuprofen a day (400mg), I had nights where I took 3 before I went to bed (the dose is about 1200mg a day, I went triple that per day) and still wake up 4 hours laters due to the massive pain.
So I went to remove them, obviously I figured it wouldn't be fun, but I had seriously no fucking clue the pain I would be in, I'm not kidding, it was completely insane... basicly the infected parts (the swollen stuff) has a bad blood circulation, because of that the injection won't work well, infact during the first one she gave me a couple of small injection to help a little extra with that specific area, after which we took a break in which she gave me another full injection and after removing the other 2 (with still 2 roots left) the pain was so massive again that I had to wait for them to get back of their break, get another injection to do the last part...
The pain was so freaking insane that after round 2 during the break, my eyes just keep crying because of the massive pain, even they said the infection was very abnormal, I mean while I was waiting for the second injection to work a other guy was being helped who was already shouting it out, and they told him it was because he had a small infection...
Seriously people, make sure to visit your dentist reguraly and if you don't because you're stubborn like me, then trust me on this, if it started to get infected and swollen... get your ass in gear as soon as possible, even then the pain is bad, but wait aslong as I did and you go to the level of Jack Bauer torture...
Anyway right now the injection is still working, which feels really weird due to the amounts I received (well above what they normally give, and I'm guessing are allowed to give), half my face feels like... well... nothing, so when I drink a small part feels the bottle on my lips, the other half doesn't feel a thing, except that my face feels the weight on it.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Hahaha, don't you love it when your dentist is ravaging your mouth with 4 different tools and then asks you a question, almost expecting you to respond?

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
While you were in England you should have used the dental service. :p

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
I have one that needs to be removed.. it's completely sideways leaving a pit that can get infected because it's difficult to clean.
The only problem is, my dentist told me that particular wisdom tooth is very close to my jaw bone and if they remove it there is a chance I could have permanent nerve damage in my jaw... so I dunno what to do.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Was this done by an oral surgeon? They can get general anesthetics and put you under so you don't feel a thing, it just costs a bit more (insurance = win).
I had all of my wisdom teeth out that way, I just remember feeling really good then waking up a little feeling strange pressure in my head (he was still pulling one out, but the drugs had completely deadened everything by that point), then when I was completely conscious, I just had to get them packed with that medicine stuff that tastes nasty and go sit in a waiting room for about an hour before they'd release me. One of the sockets got a mild infection while they were healing and I had to go back in and have it re-packed (omg best feeling in the world.. not kidding.. sex doesn't compare), but other than that and the annoyance it was to clean them, it wasn't so bad. My wisdom teeth were HUGE btw, the surgeon even said they were quite a bit larger than average :o.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
It was done by a oral surgeon, but they are not allowed to knock you out, they can only used the local stuff.
Who knows, perhaps I could have requested to go to a hospital and all that, but at that moment I didn't know how bad the pain would be, and I think neither did they, she told me that it was much worse then it looked in the beginning, which was already quite bad.
Oh well it's done now, it just stings a bit now, but I was able to sleep most of the night, woke up twice, but not with really pain, most of the bleeding has stopped now aswell so the taste in my mouth is a lot better now. Staying home today and probably going to college tomorrow (won't have to talk there much, unlike my workplacement/internship where I would have to be today)
The only really crappy thing is that I can't eat solid food for a while, which sucks I would love to make myself some lasagna right now. :P

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Oh god I know that feeling man. My wisdom tooth (top right) was infected and the infection spread to the two teeth in front of it. The pain got so unbearable, I had to start popping perks to deal with it. Sorry to hear your going through it too. Did you get the massive migranes with it too?

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Ouch, i think i can beat then chunky TV'S fell 2-3meters off the wall and onto my ankle, it felt like something had just ripped my foot off and it was no-longer attached and then my ankle went blue purple and red basically at the same time :o

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Post-operative pain without proper painkillers because they didn't work, but paralyzed me so I couldn't ask for help. I laid in bed for 12 hours staring at the ceiling wishing to die, not able to move.
Physical pain is manageable. Just go somewhere deep in your mind and hide there. You can't really do much while there though so if you need to get back to normal life (job etc) get them opies :)

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
What a nice description you gave us Gohan... Good to know you're better and I think I'll go visit my dentist. Just for some routine control.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Good, even if I get 1 person to think twice about not going to the dentist in time makes sharing these experiences well worth it, it's a pain I do not wish on anyone.

Luckily no, but aside from the stabbing feeling in my mouth I did often have massive pain in my ear, I felt like jabbing something in there all the time, just got so hot... I once was a truely big dumbass and trying to cool me off by getting some cold water in my ear... let me tell you, the first 5 seconds were amazing, the next 5 seconds were quite good, the 5 seconds after that it got warm again and after that I felt instantly extremely sick and that feeling stayed for about a hour... so people, don't try to cool it off that way, it's a really awful feeling where you want to throw up, but you can't (atleast I couldn't).

Obviously I can't say that your pain was less since I've never experienced it, but the nerves in your mouth are possible the most sensitive places ever, having someone trying to remove 3 molars with brute force constantly stabbing all those extremely sensitive stuff is just absurd, I mean I had a finger pretty much removed from my hand (it was only attached by a tiny bit of skin) and that didn't hurt even nearly as much.

That sounds really horrible, I mean atleast I had control to stop the pain, even for a few seconds, but just not being able to stop the pain for a few seconds or scream sounds really awful.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Osteochronditus dissecans, try walking after having multiple fractures removed because of that disgusting disease, 1 year has passed and i can walk but not run, and i can't play soccer at all. The healing of the wound took 4 months for me, no infections though. spend the first month on the couch with x-box controller in my hand, downstairs. It will take years before the missing pieces are filled by it growing back, plus my leg sleeps really fast, like i move my leg up and down like shakin wise, same way someone that has to pee or someone that is SHITzofrenic does.
the blood circulation right there is all fucked up.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Couldn't you have just opt to get yourself knocked out for the tooth extraction if it was that painful ? Plenty of dentists do that...
-
Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
Dentists are not allowed to do that, oral surgeons are usually not allowed either afaik, especially since the one I visited was not in a hospital. They told me they were only allowed to do the local stuff.

While I have no doubt due to the length that it's really bad and like with the other guy, I'm not trying to pretend that your pain is light or even close to it, however the pain I went through was really extreme, I mean if you were going through that pain while walking then you would pass out every few steps. I mean because of molars I went 4 times the dosis on ubiprofen and even while I was pretty much constantly on atleast 1 of them, I still had moments where the pain was so extreme that I was shaking and sweating etc for about a hour before the next load of extra pills worked, it's a pain that drives you nuts. And yet it was nothing compared to that, the mouth is 1 of the most sensitive places you have, and because the pain couldn't be managed they were just jabbing in there trying to remove 3 molars. It's not the length of the pain that was extreme, the pain last only like a second each time (about 30 times total) but the pain was so extreme that it felt exactly like what they were doing, removing something by force in a extremely sensitive area without any pain management.

It depends on location (city/state laws and regulations) and the insurance/licenses available to the practice. Sedation dentistry is common around here, and fully general anesthetics during oral surgery is as well.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
That sucks. Dentist drugs are the best drugs. Ketamine and nitrous oxide ftw.

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine

Ehm... I used the ibuprofens for pain management for all this time, obviously for the removal I got a needle full of goodiness that made me numb. ;)
Ofcourse after that I got 2 more full shots plus lots of smaller ones.
We can only buy the 400mg here (used about 200 in the past 6-7 weeks) and I received 12 600mg from the prescription I got after they did the work. Tbh I don't have any real pain aside from a stingy sensation from the stitches, which is quite annoying, it doesn't really hurt when I don't do anything, but when I start talking or eating it gets quite annoying, which sucks as those are my 2 of my 3 favorite things. ;)

Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
so they didn't prescribe you vicodin?
-
Re: I just went through the worst physical pain you could imagine
That sounds horrible, man. I was lucky to be young enough when I got mine out, so they pretty much put me to sleep when they did the surgery.
On an unrelated note, kidney stones are supposedly on par with child birth. Just be glad it wasn't one of those?
