[SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
Well boys. Long story short, I'm a terran player. I've played terran for a decade. (Literally). But I want to learn how to play Zerg real well, since they're the least played race. Would anyone here give me some tips? On here, or over msn. Or have a few matches with me on North American SC2 servers? I honestly suck with them. Not sure what to build, and when. Etc.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
Day9, watch Day9. He did a daily on when to build drones, that is what good Zerg players do.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
Zerg isn't the least played race anymore. That's going to be a tossup between terran or protoss.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
I recently hosted a Tournament, which was majority protoss. We had 2 Terran and 2 Zerg players. People I guess seemed to see how easy Protoss is to pick up.

Unless you took the pool of all active SC2 players and uniformly selected each of these individuals, I have little confidence that the race makeup of your tournament is accurate globally.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
This isn't going to be the most formatted thing, just a list of pointers:
Open up with 14 pool 14 gas 14 overlord queen, aim to expand at 20 if possible.
if you want to fast expand;
vs terran : 15 hatch 14 pool 14 overlord 16 gas
vs toss : 14 pool 14 hatch 14 ovy 16 gas
14>16 is a queen on both of those, save 300 mins so you can make both queens asap from both hatches
zerg is a reaction race, play around that, sac overlords if you can't see what ur opponent is doing, keeping lings near ramp to see when he moves out, control of xelnaga towers is key, poking up with a ling to see what his unit compisiton is also helps in knowing what to get
any speed upgrades as zerg is super important
top 4 things as zerg : Expand if your money is high, as hatches give u unit production, SPREAD CREEP, ENGADGE ON CREEP IF POSSIBLE, those are so important your banelings vs a mmm army will rape them on creep, since they move almost as fast as stemmed marines.
use hotkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <--- IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!
once your first queen pops out put down a creep tumor before first larva inject as you can't afford it anyway, same when 2nd queen pops, the 2nd set of 25 energy should be used on larva, attempt to keep your queens as low as possible on energy
if i think of anymore things ill post

Yeah I agree, you're totally correct. I'm just saying, 32 players, 4 of them were not Protoss. May not be an accurate reading but it says something.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
day9 FTW :) & i love husky & HD too for commentators. but day9 explains ALOT!

It's not quite the same. A random selection from "people I know" in various leagues is much more prone to bias than the top 200 on the ladder. The size isn't the big problem, it's the method of selection, and 200 is sufficient to give a lot of information in regards to balance and trends in play and popularity of each race (due to these biases).
What this guarantees is activity, but due to how the MMR and matchmaking system works, there is significant error the lower league you look at (as far as highest points). The most accurate assessment can be made in Diamond which in a sense is the information you're interested in. You want to consider very active players, not just people who play very casually. The bonus pool gives a nice way to guarantee activity at a moderately high skill level, so notice that trend holds fairly well even through to top 5000 in diamond. I'm not sure which N is the most accurate at measuring current popularity but balance is most accurately seen in the top 200-500.
I've thought about doing some mathematical analyses to show how this metric with a calculable error can be used to demonstrate accurately class bias and popularity. But you can easily reason out things.. people who play regularly and (usually) competitively like to win. When their race gets the nerfhammer and blows terribly in the metagame, they get discouraged and stop playing (bonus pool grows) or switch races. So the top is generally the most accurate balance-wise due to this activity metric.
I don't mean "guaranteed win" balance, I mean race balance. It's pretty well known amongst pros (even showing up in many interviews and posts by pros on TL) and brotoss that protoss is horribly unbalanced. Yes, as a strong player you can win, but the race is horrible in its current form (not imbalanced, it's quite specifically unbalanced). Terran on the other hand is incredibly balanced which is why it's so much more comfortable to play -- you're never really at a HUGE disadvantage because of your race, it's mainly because of your play, which isn't always the case with zerg and esp. protoss.
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
The top 200 don't switch races that often, and from what I remember t I still the most dominant on top 200, followed up by a close tie between z and p

Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
In the end, just don't be the asshole who 8 pools
edit:
oh and take a look at this website http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Zerg_Strategy
I'm not that great as a Zerg player (Toss here, played Terran throughout beta but, I switched races because I'm tired of the harassment I receive after each game I've used Terran in SC2, being yelled 'OP OP OP OP' when I'm in another game) - but some things I've seen done by many Zerg players nowadays (I always re-watch the map/replay to see if I can improve in certain areas) is that they expo early because of smaller rush opportunities [Depending on their race, or the map itself - for example, reaper rush is pretty nonexistent afaik ]
Re: [SC2] Zerg Players and Strategy
you can still get easily rushed as zerg, espcially going hatch first vs toss, 1 stalker 1 zelot early push can kill so many drones,
same with a proxy 2 gate, which is why 90% of zergs go pool then hatch zvp to get those lings out early if needed.
