What should I do?

Not posted in here for ages! However I was unsure about something so thought I would ask here - no idea why!

Basically I bought a TV which developed a fault, they sent out a new one but never picked up the old. It has only been about a week since I got my new one but they haven't mentioned the old one at all.

Does anyone know the laws in regards to things like this? Is there a period of time I have to wait until I can say it is my own? It's a bit of a burden as it is a massive box!

I'd say wait a few weeks, then consider it your own, if they want it back anyway just tell them they already picked it up. That is ofcourse if it's from a large chain of stores, because they screw up all the time, normally they should pick this stuff up right away, atleast that's what I'm used to.

If you really want some security you could phone them up (set it on private), and ask them how long it takes for them to pick it up, if they give you the answer just hang up.

Aye it is a pretty big chain so I am hoping it has just got lost in the loop, just wouldn't want to sell it and then have them asking for it back! As you said I think I will just leave it a while and see what happens.

Ach, they obviously don't care that much about it, if they willingly provided you with a new TV and didn't pick up the old. In any case, it's faulty. Why do you want to call it your own?

dead pixels, so it still works

A friend bought a iPhone few years ago (was ofc more expensive then) and it had almost the same story. The item was send but the payment wasn't done. So far, it never was mentioned.

I would wait as well till they respond. It's not your mistake, is it?

They did initially yep, but I've not heard anything since. I suppose I will wait and see, the new one also has dead pixels :/ but they cannot exchange again because dead pixels are very common apparently.

Gamma?.. hmm I dunno, been on these forums since they opened lol

In every related situation I've been in, the courier who drops off the replacement unit also picks up the old unit at the same time. If they leave without it, it's yours.

Life lesson: Don't buy shit TV's.

Well if they're faulty, I would.

Not so much a fault as me being very picky, picture quality is fantastic. Actually states in the manual that dead pixels don't classify as a fault so I have been very fortunate.

Dead pixels can happen on every TV, unless they actually test them beforehand, but I'm guessing it's cheaper to sell it and exchange it if it has some then the other way around, not to mention that most people don't see it or leave it be.

Every product has it's own serial, if he gets it repaired they will run it through the computer. The last thing you want is this TV going through there computer where they will see it was faulty etc.

At least in chip manufacturing it's more expensive to test them than it was to produce them. I'd bet the testing equipment alone would take a bit considering how many pixels new TVs etc have, let alone having to plug it in.

I believe most TV manufactures say if it has move than around 10 pixels then it's considered faulty. Though this was when LCDs were first being introduced and I was doing courses about them at college, a lot could have changed since then. Plus it's easier to just sell them all and replace the ones that are defective. Vast majority are unaffected, the ones who are are more than happy at just getting a replacement.
