The reason I am writing this thread is because I suddenly saved my work with PhotoShop not to JPG but to PNG and then compared PNG with JPG. PNG quality is really better.
So I want to ask why ppl use JPG more compared with PNG?
Maybe there are some limitations?
I am currenly making a template and would like to know what format I should export to.
I hope you justify why one format is better to other.

I always used and still do use JPG except for the odd time but I think maybe it's cause the "PNG" makes it in bigger in size and when it's smaller in size quicker too upload. . . I maybe completely wrong thinking of another one.

yep, PNG format is bigger, but the quality is better than a quantity... ;)

PNG is the new age GIF, except it doesn't have the feature of animations. It also compresses better than GIF in most cases, and in my opinion... has MUCH better quality than both JPG and GIF combined.
Okey, so my new site will be PNG-only. We'll see how it looks...

PNGs are basically hardcore gifs, they can also be animated, also, if you save it out with transparency, you dont get the rough edges a gif gives if not exported correctly, i mean PNG is an amazing format, but the main problem is that IE doesnt support their transparency or animation, which is a real shame, just stops it from getting more popular, as for saving PNGs for a site, no point, JPGs or GIFs are alot easier, but then again, its really your choice.
But the quality of highes quality JPG is really visibly lower than PNGs. This page http://zilvitis.baitida.lt/ layout was made using PNGs-only. When I sliced the project in PS I set some slices to be JPG, others GIF and PNG. And compared the slices in one exported site. The difference is amaging. JPG and GIF were dimm or how to call them... but the PNG is really good and I am looking forward to using only PNGs in my pages (where the animation is not required).Quote:

with png's u cant do anything transparent, so make sure not to have transparent stuff on ur site, and if u want like a curved edge or something, use the backgrounds color where the transparency would have been , if u know what i mean ;)

b/c when uploading they dont want huge size, even though png files do look better, they are way to big for some uses

If you save a jpg at 100% quality it will be near enough perfect (especially for 72dpi screen representations). PNG's have good quality but are too big in size. There can also be display and compatability problems with PNG. jpg's saved at lower quality will load up in any browser allot faster than a PNG to be honest. As a web designer i seriously do know that the speed at which a page loads is very important. Using PNG's just doesent cut it. gif's and jpg's are the two main web graphics to use.
