I purchased my dream car as my first car and have never regretted it. 3.0L turbocharged V6 so it isn't light on the fuel, but i wasn't looking for an economical car.
However, that was only after i had been driving for 3 years, and after i had already been in an accident in my parents car. Being the owner of a performance car, i can tell you that you do NOT want to buy one unless you have had at least 2-3 years of driving under your belt. You will obviously think the opposite, but in a time of crisis your inexperienced instincts WILL be wrong.
The insurance is a killer too, most people don't even bother getting comprehensive insurance with these cars, they just get 3rd party. $1,500 per year for insurance is not worthwhile for a car only valued at $10k.
Also the whole "I'll register/insure it under my parents name" trick doesn't work anymore, because nowadays insurance companies charge you not according to the age of the policy owner, but according to the age of the youngest driver.

Audi's are quite a pain in the arse to repair. Not to mention, the 8 cylinders will suck the money right out of your wallet.
I personally think you should buy a bunky car for about $500 and practice like mad. Get 3rd party insurance on it, so even if you get in an accident no harm no foul.
It will run like a tank, cost next to nothing in fuel, and you will get a feel for the road while driving independently. After 1 year, then get an Audi and throw the other one away or keep it as a shitmobile.

UK car insurance has gone up by 40% and in some cases doubled, plus ontop of the new 20% vat rates and increasing petrol prices, driving in the UK is EXPENSIVE. At the moment by me its £1.30 a litre which is $2.02. Because of the recession in allot of cases its cheaper to buy a brand new car than second hand.Quote:

A 92 Mazda Protege LX. May not be flashy stock, but in my opinion, your first car should be one that will last you. Low gas costs, fairly fast, and can be customized nicely. Baby lasted me 5 years, lasted my foster mothers boyfriend 5 years before that and when I sold it, the car was still in near mint condition. Still original parts and all. You should really consider something else, but in the end it's your choice.
ah no I don't take that as offensive. Singapore is very obscure and it's surroundings are not like it so yea, many misconceptions :P
Dad went to Singapore (and other places in the area) on a cruise last year on his honeymoon. He said it's one of the cleanest, neatest places he'd ever been to.
Great place to visit, not the best place to live in.

Ive heard alot of positive things from audi cars. In poland they are very popular the A4 and A6 but if your getting an older audi like me (considering it) get the tip-tronic transmission they will last you longer, dont get the multitronic they will crash on you faster.
Audis are great cars. For a first car honestly I'd go with something that would get you from point A to point B. I had a stick shift 03 tiburon GT as my first car. It had dents and peeling paint but it got me around and was cheap on insurance. I paid for the car and insurance myself has a part time working high school student.
If your parents are going to pay for or help with the payments, go for a nicer car. If you have to pay for everything yourself then I recommend getting something a little cheaper. You have a lot more pride in a car you bought yourself over a car your parents bought you, and in turn you'll treat it better and it will last longer.

Yeah my two brothers were boguth their first car, but since I had a bit of money at the time, even though I'm the baby of the family, I bought my own instead of having it given to me. Although they did help out with the insurance.
I will just drive in the car of my parents for some time since we have 2 cars shouldn't that be an problem.
Than after some time I will think about buying one myself.
But until than I will just use my parents car and pay for the fuel I use.
