Completely new to all this jailbreak shit and well my g/f is into her PSP and I thought instead of her spending money on PSP games I could jailbreak it nd get the games for free, which means I have more money for beer tokens etc.
So my questions are :
What are the downsides of doing this?
How do I go about doing it?

It could possibly brick the PSP and other than that there is no downsides. I don't know how to just know what could happen.

It all depends on the model (1000/2000/3000/go), motherboard and Firmware running.

What you need is a Pandora battery and a Pandora Magic Stick (Sony Pro Duo) rest what to do can be found on google.
Oh and like Crash said, it all depends on your version, motherboard and firmware.

If it's a go then it has the slider screen, otherwise just look at the bottom of the PSP.
It should have a barcode and underneath it something like: "xx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-psp3003".
Once you narrow down the type then check the Firmware type by going to "System Settings" -> "System Information".
It should say something like: "System Software Version 6.20".
Once we know all of that then we should know if can be done and by which method.

It all depends on what model PSP and what firmware you have.
Firstly, bricking your PSP isn't the end of the world. There are actually methods to unbrick your psp these days.
The most common way to hack your psp is to use a pandora battery and magic memory stick. This isn't always the best way however as you need to either obtain a second battery to use as the pandora or know someone with a hacked PSP.
Other alternatives are to use game exploits to hack your PSP. The game used will depend on your firmware. Lumines and GTA:LCS can both be used.
ChickHEN is another alternative which I like the best. ChickHEN uses and image exploit to reboot your PSP into recovery mode. This method requires is great as it doesn't require a magic memory stick, pandora battery or a specific version of a game. The downside is it doesn't always work first time so you just have to keep trying until it does. I think it also requires any firmware below 5.50.
I used the chickHEN method which worked perfectly. I now have 5.50 prometheus on mine. I used PSP 1000 (Phat) with 2.81 firmware originally.
Don't quote me on everything here as I'm writing this by memory. I haven't tried all these methods so cant grantee they work. There are some fairly good guides out there and great software for PSP like irshell, hostcore and remotejoy.

google would be your best bet on this topic; there are plenty of websites with tons of guides on how to put custom firmware on your psp you just have to know where to look.
The newer custom firmware that is coming out has less compatibility with legacy emu's or most at all (n64 still works on mine I think and it's 5.50 prometheus), you just have to decide which firmware is right for you. That is, if you can do it at all.
Right well I have the PSP with me just now and its a PSP 3003 (Which from reading around isn't good as I may not be able to Jailbreak?) , It doesn't have the writing in the UMD Drive to show me if its a certain type of motherboard or higher and the firmware version is 6.20.

Motherboard doesn't really matter for 3000, only the 2000 versions.
Since it's 6.20 and 3000 then you can install hen, 6.20 TN-B and Prometheus/OpenIdea iso.
I just did this yesterday with my brothers psp that has the same firmware/model.

I have a flashed psp myself, iam running irshell very nice software you can controll tv's, psps, and controll your pc through a program forgot what its called sorry.
Ok was going to attempt this tonight then realised I can't find the MemoryStick which I assume I need, so need tobuy a new one, does anyone recommend a certain one or?
If your goign to use it for pandora battery purpose you should get the Sony- Memorystick PRO Duo-512mb is plenty enough for me.Quote:
