Final Fantasy VII Remake News and Question

Reliving the Fantasy
If you were cruising the Internets throughout the week of E3, you probably read about Square Enix's hot-to-trot Final Fantasy VII tech demo, which was shown during Sony's preshow press conference to help convey the power of the Playstation 3. Unfortunately, you probably also read how Square's president denied that the footage meant a remake of its colossal PS1 role-playing game was in the works. Put away the Kleenex, people; I've got it on very, very good authority that the company is indeed bringing a visually updated version of FFVII to the PS3. Any other details? Well, Aerith still dies in this version, so maybe you should keep those tissues within arms reach.


If you aren't familiar with EGM, they are known as #1 in the game publishing industry, so their a pretty reputable source.

Now, my question to the FFVII fans out there:

Would a remake ruin the original? I have read many fans say that it would. I for the life of me can't understand how this would be a bad thing. I love the original and would love a remake, easy as that. It's been nearly 8 years since I first played FFVII and I still play it to this day. The chance of a remake makes me all giddy inside.. You? :eh:

the only final fantasy game i enjoyed was Final Fantasy 9, so i wouldnt care ;)

FFIX is my 3rd favorite ;) Was fun but FFVII was my baby.

u ppl have to play VII, it was the best, and it wouldnt ruin the game if they kept it the exact same, i mean chocobo racing was the pwnage, summons, materia, Knights Of The Round Summon (just think of that summon with the power of PS3, drool drool)

I'll have pretty high expectations for the remake that's for sure. =P

but yeh Cyco, i totally agree, NOTRT with ps3...was orgasmic. hehehe

Garnet was great, but Yuffie/Aerith/Tifa for teh win imho. Even Elena of the Turks was hawt.

btw, i hated when they asked you to rename Garnet to Dagger.. just... no..

i didnt like IX, i think it was b/c the graphics changed, and not for better i think, battle type changed, didnt like it, skills sucked, and the storyline wasnt that good, i like the older ones b/c the storyline actually follows all the way back to FF3, if anyones played those

A remake of FFVII would make me stay home and wide-eyed from up to 40 hours :D (hopefully more).

I can't see how it would ruin the original. If you think the original is the best, just play the original and don't purchase the remake. Simple :)

Exactly!

The original will stand the test of time. A remake would only prove how great the original was, as how many games are remade? Especially using such superior graphics?

From a marketing and financial perspective, I can see Sony pushing Square/Enix to do it, as the PS3 would be even more sought after IMO.

u must remember square/enix, is much different than squaresoft, i mean look at the games each company produced, FFIII, FFVII compaired to enix mix of FFX-2 < homosexual, gay female remake, if they even touch the great gameplay and style of the original FFVII i will be very pissed off, they better keep there homoerotic views of Enix away from they styles of FFVII

Besides, as long as the most important people are working on the game, who cares? A remake won't kill it, if it somehow bombs then we still have the original. We lose nothing ;)

no its only that, ff 10-2 was pretty much made for females, or males of the homo persuation, i mean, a story of 3 females trying to find 1 lost love, while changing clothes in the middle of battle to "fight in style" i mean what kind of weird stuff are they coming up with

Admittedly, I'm not the greatest fan of FFX-2, but if they do hash up the remake of FFVII somehow, like Becky said, we can always play the original :). It doesn't matter how homoerotic they make a Final Fantasy game, I'll still play and complete it, then I'll moan if it was rubbish :D

Oh, ok, I gotcha :) Yeah, tbh I wasn't a big fan of FFX or X-2. Just didn't do it for me :meh:

IF they remake, they should just overhaul the graphics and FMV's, and fix any issue that may have plagued the original. As far as story and the actual system of the game, they better keep that the exact same ;)

I would love to see new stuff, but not for a remake. For a sequel, yes, yes INDEED!

Perhaps if the remake of FFVII is indeed successful, they might break the Final Fantasy trend for having no sequels for a second time and create a game version of Final Fantasy: Advent Children :)

Jeez, I still can't wait to see the movie, let alone a remake ;) Maybe I'm being selfish, but bah! I've waited long enough :P

Just the thought of the remake makes me get all giddy inside. I spent so many hours having a blast with the original... I'd be "sick" for at least a week tbh to play it lol

i got a tingly feeling as i read through this

i wet myself for FFVII i absolutely love it, i remember me and my friend got it for christmas and everytime wed see each other wed just talk about it which bit we were up to, what lvl we were and such

i remember once as u fight the boss in the generator and its like ur 1st decent fight where ur attacking from both sides and u get to back attack. i remember hitting it in the back with braver for like 700+ dmg and i was like OMFG!!!! next time i met my friend it was the 1st thing i told him, was funny because hed done exactly the same

i still talk about it now, i wasted so much of my younger life in the gold saucer playing in the arcade, racing chocobos and such

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ^__^

Well I've gotta be honest, I've never played FFVII. But if it's half as good as everyone makes out then a remake on the PS3 would be a great idea.

I'm sure one of my mates has VII, I'll have to borrow it off him. :D

Btw.. is VII a turn based battle system?

If you haven't played FFVII, you're missing out on one of the best RPGs there is, if not the best. You'll have to grab hold of a copy.

The FFVII combat system is an active time battle system. Each character has a gauge and once that gauge is filled you can perform an attack/use item/cast magic etc... then the timer resets. It's simple enough, you'll get used to it.

I faked sick when I got it. I missed like the second week of school to play it ;) Couldn't stop.. a true addiction 0_o Was worth all the homework I ended up having tbh.

Hell yeah. Sadly, people that play it for the first time (now) jump all over the graphics and such, totally dissing it just for that. A remake would show those fools the way, for sure :P Although, in 1997, those WERE the graphics everyone was savoring over. Damn technology is a fickle mistress.

i think a remake would be great only problem i can see is true fans will have huge expectations for it and im now sure if enix would beable to reach the expectations or not

I hate the entire franchise with a passion, regardless of their choice; my opinion stands strong. I find the storyline simple, as well the character development and plot hold the same depth; might add it is the same plot for EVERY final fantasy game. I feel like I'm some kind of red line in a black and white world noticing this. By the way, Final Fantasy 11 is being ported to the Xbox 360. Doesn't that seem odd?
