Strange Problem

Hmm, It seem like everything is right for me except one thing, I always get the .exe error as soon as i login my server.

Any reason why i keep getting Game.exe error everytime i login the server? Is it the client side fault?

For Server Side:
KPT Endless Tower Update

For Client Side:
FroggPT Client Folder, But the using a KPT1871(No Xtrap).exe

Every time i launch the KPT Endless Tower Update.exe and then launch the KPT1871(No Xtrap).exe client, I wait as usual, After i login i got the .exe error or sometime Disconnect from server.

What the cause and how to fix it? And is it the client side fault or is the server fault?.

Server is running 4096
Client is 1871

Is that why? Mismatch Version? if so where can i find same client version that is 4096 too.

Unaltered 4096 won't even be seen by unaltered 1871... let alone let you log in, or crash.

There are lots of reasons why you may crash at login:-
1. Bad asset set for client executable
2. Bad client configuration
3. Client doesn't meet defined server security codes
4. Bad server configuration
5. Corrupted character data
6. Out of sync client and server level:Exp table
7. Out of sync client and server Maps
8. Invalid Clan records / lookup URLs
9. Bad server side Clan system
So, in short, from the information you have given it could be:-
1. The client
2. The server
3. The Database
4. The web-server
5. The client data
6. The server Data
7. The client configuration
8. The server configuration
9. a mis-match between the executables
10. a mis-match between the configurations
But whatever it is, this:-

I try to use Server 619, the client 1977 ( The one that you release, and i still got problem with game.exe error, Now i'm gonna try FusionPTRepack (The client 1977 is in korean lol.)Posted via Mobile Device

Most up-to-date Official clients are the ones from KPT
You can try to translate the game.exe yourself (mostly Skill names, Item stats, ingame windows)

You can also copy from an english client some pictures ( like your inventory pic, character stats picture) so they will be english also.

btw server 619 should work with client 1977 ( if you updated your server with these files) http://forum.ragezone.com/f399/relea...-floor-666623/

I use them also, and works great

Thanks, Well i test by using server 619 and a client 1997, and somehow the game.exe crash stop but everytime i login with a knight it froze and a fighter it crash instantly.

I dont think thats the problem of your crash.. but its kinda low to run & play server & client.

Like bobsobol said .. many things can causing this problem.
Best thing you can do i check them all out and make sure everything is setup correctly.

I would start at:
1. Bad server configuration
2. Bad client configuration

550Meg? Hmm. Many people are finding 4Gig insufficient to prevent server from crashing when they include the 197x maps, monsters and items... let alone customs.

But it is your client that is crashing? So I also think this is less likely to be the problem.

Try reducing graphics detail. (complex textures maybe) Also, consider replacing the char\tmabcd folder in the client if you are having issues with specific classes or armours.

I will agree that 1977 is probably 90% compatible with Server619... but Server619 doesn't support new maps, new armours (the ones you are supposed to "craft" with Smelting and Metallurgy) and so on. I think Max level is 120? (IMS)

I'd also like to point out that my last "release" version of 1977 has a link to a PPF file which will patch most of the Korean text to English, as provided by to me by Osirus. Please re-read the original post down to the link just above the pretty image of PPF-O-Matic applying the translation patch, like this:-

I also agree with Casper, that if any character on a particular account crashes the client out as soon as you spawn in game, then the most likely cause is that your client is configured to connect as an Admin user and your server doesn't acknowledge that account, or IP as authenticated for an admin login. (it won't give you the opportunity to "authenticate")

Thanks again Bob, But correct me if i'm wrong, But after all of this i think maybe only 2 thing, It either my server/client are mismatch or my Hotuk.ini is wrong.

@bob: If you can tell me the best server/client that is good to use, I want a working server/client that are work with new/custom maps/item and such. Oh and bob, I use asp register to make a regular account, maybe the hotuk is the problem.

Yea yea, and we'd all like to get Windows 7 Ultimate and Office Professional for free too, wouldn't we.

What you are asking for is the latest and best files which people are still profiting from. They will not just give them to you.

Is there a fully functioning World of Warcraft Cataclysm server with all monsters, quests, items and Raid bosses fully functional and scripted for you to just download? No... there is a basic server, but you'll have to figure out the mobs, quests, dungeons and AI scripting your self.

PT is no different than any other MMO. When you can do it your self, you can have the latest and best version... until then, you make do with the best cast-offs of those who have done it, been past that point and don't mind sharing an old, stable backup.

And until you can do it all your self, you had better say "thank you", because there is no profit or gain in those people dropping us their old backups, and some considerable risk, if they are still running that server.:/:

  Don't use DEBUG_ID and DEBUG_IP (doesn't always cause problems, but it can)
- You should have a similar ADMIN_ID or ADMIN_IP line, (depending on which you chose for Debug) if you want to log any of those accounts / IP as Admin users... and that is controlled by the Hotuk.ini in your client folder.

Woah! Please post Korean config in Korean characters, or attach a file. They will not translate for other users unless you do.

Have you tried a reboot? Sounds like you ran out of GFX memory to me. :wink:

RAM doesn't come in 550Meg sticks, so I'm guessing you are running a 1Gig stick with just under half of it "shared" between CPU and GPU. (something you should never have on a system you use to play 3D video games :wink:)

So bob, You mean all along the problem is because of my memory is too slow? Every time i login and 1-5 second later it just close/crash and it give me a error.txt inside it say: lpDD->SetCooperativeLevel .
Well a week ago before i was making PT, I got my computer fix and the repair guys was stupid, I told him after repair my comp i want to upgrade the memory to 1GB Memory of Ram, So he took out 2 of my Hynix Memory(550MB Left,Use to be a 1GB), And he install Kingston Memory Ram(Only 1 slot was use) So i got confuses, Cause most of time you have 2 slot and those slot must be filled, So i just took out that Kingston Memory Stick and plug back my old memory stick. But if it a Memory problem, If it correct, Im gonna go upgrade my memory stick.

What you need (to free up the memory) is a 3D accelerated Graphics card, and disable the on-board GPU in your BIOS config. :wink:

The problem with "shared" memory, is that the GPU usually reads and writes to the address bus more frequently than the CPU... when the graphics memory is on the same address bus as the CPU memory, the CPU can't run anything so long as the GPU is doing any 3D rendering. Games then have to "give up" rendering frames so the CPU can actually do some work.

Usually you can just about scrape by, but you are now running a memory intensive Server and a Web Server with server-side-scripting in the background while you play.

It wasn't a "good" situation to start with, but you made it a lot worse. :(: Sorry, but it's the truth.

DirectDraw:SetCooperativeLevel method (now depreciated, and only really supported for backwards compatibility post DirectX 6, and on Windows CE) is supposed to allow threads to update multiple "layered" surfaces at the same time... I would guess that you just don't have enough memory left for the number of surfaces that the client is trying to allocate on the GPU via DirectDraw.

You may have better luck without "Window Mode"... but with no Client Hotuk.ini, you should have been getting that anyway. Closing any and all Windows you don't actually need (not just minimizing them) may help as well. But essentially, you don't have access to enough graphics memory to start the game up properly.

Reduce the resolution to 800x600 or 640x480 if you can (you can with my Butchered client, I've run it at 512x384 without too much trouble), and definitely reduce the texture (graphics) quality.

I'm gonna try to upgrade my memory stick then, Cause mostly it cause cause my memory is too low.

Looks like the GPU is dynamically allocating what it needs from your 1Gig stick. But it isn't the "amount" that is the biggest problem. It's the bus contention created by the GPU being on-board your motherboard, and not on a card with it's on dedicated bus and dedicated memory.

Seriously... A 2 Gig stick would be a slight improvement. Using a motherboard with on-board graphics is something your should only do with Laptops and Notebooks... and shared memory is only a "good idea" if you don't do anything but surf the web and use Microsoft Office. (or equivalent)

I wouldn't watch a DVD on a PC with shared memory. XD

I'm going to check... because PT has a list of "older" graphics chipsets that it treats as a "special case"... and I have a suspicion that the old MX 4 series was among them.

Also... a "good" example server hotuk was provided to us by AirBourn in this thread.

Yeah, I agree, But you know, Even when i try to do another alternative way like, Since my little brother laptop are faster then mine(Take him less then a minute to load PT) So i just send him my Reg,1977 Client and he load fine,Able to login to my account and such fine, But when he get inside the game he get the same crash as me, I thought it gonna work lol but still not, I guess the master computer that host the game have to be fast in order for another player to play.

But he get error like : lpDD3->SetDisplayMode

Definitely not. As I've said before I've hosted on a PII 250Mhz with 128Meg (standard jPT 4096 with no Ice maps and so on) with many players logged in, no lag, no shortage of memory and plenty of spare CPU cycles.

So if both machines do the same... there must be some SMD file or such which is simply consuming too much resources on the client.

My advise is to use the KPT Test updater to get the standard assets, and use those with the 1977 client... not Froggs fancy files. ;)

You should know private servers use different file names for different file. If the game.exe can not find a file, your game will crash.

So I would suggest downloading an OFFICAL game either from kpt or ept.

Crash at login could also be caused by that little dragon pet that appears during the first 9 levels. Especially with Frogg's files.
You could try logging in a level 10+ character if it's not the case already.

On a side note, what on earth is that version of Windows... XP with the Vista logo and CyberWarez corporation. I wouldn't be surprised if my system was unstable with that kind of tweaked OS (: .

Hey sun, Thanks you are right, Is not my memory problem is because i didnt install the official EPT game lol, it work now but there still question,
1. I already make myself admin but using ~/@put doesnt work?

I already able to login my master computer without crash now, Just need to figure out where all the npc and monster goes lol. But i will let you guy know how it goes.
