View quick please - Need a new video card
Current rig is a Dell XPS 410. Current card is a GeForce 7300 LE.
My girlfriend is begging me to play GTA4 on the PC but doesn't seem to understand that my GFX card is too slow lol. Well 20 minutes later shes now begging me to upgrade.

I was looking at this, can get it for $140 from Amazon with free 2-day shipping with a $20 rebate.
Quick system specs are-
Intel Core2 6300 1.86GHz
5 GB RAM
Win 7 Pro x64
375 W PSU.
The 550ti requires a 400w cpu but I'm sure I can manage it with 375. I can unplug a couple extra fans if needed and use external power for cooling.
Thoughts? Looking to play games like GTA4, Crysis, Portal 2.
Budget is $150.
Games will be played on a 1280x1024 screen so high resolutions are not required.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
I would imagine the GTX460 to perform better than that, and it should be less than $150.
//Edit: But if the power consumption is too high, then sure the 550Ti should be great. Only other card i could recommend in that price range would be a 6850.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
All the 460 offers I've found are up in the $200 range.

Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
So would it be better to go with the 460 or the 550?
It still seems I might get better performance out of the 550 for cheaper, seeing as how my current PSU is 375w and will never go above 1280x1024 resolution.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
Haven't looked up the power requirements of the 550Ti but if it's lower than the GTX460's then go for it.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
Recommended PSU is 50w lower.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
GTX460 will last you a long while too for it's bang per buck. I've always been a fan of the GTX series due to that, for what you pay, they are really good.
I got a GTX560 myself and I'm finding it overkill! I can't find a game out there I can't run on all max settings without dropping below 20FPS (Dragon Age II with the high res addon hits 29-35 in high combat times)
I have no doubt in my mind that a GTX460 will serve you great, and when it comes time to upgrade you could look into SLI if that's a possibility on your motherboard.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
Probably going to place the order tomorrow, still unsure what to get.
The gtx 550ti seems to have very similar performance with the gtx 460 for less money. Tell me if I'm missing something here.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
I'd say go the for 460, although it's power consumption is a bit higher then the 550's. The 460 will give you about 20-30% extra performance. If there really is a big difference in the price between the 550 and 460 then go for the cheapest one. They're both good cards.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
Go the 550Ti.
It has a faster memory bandwidth and should actually be able to handle higher resolutions better. With the lower power consumption i would recommend that higher than the GTX460.
Re: View quick please - Need a new video card
Alright, will go in to a few different parts stores today and see if I can talk them down on the 460. If not, I'll get the 550ti.
Thanks for the help.
