Clean Database.

I wonder if anyone has or if it is possible to develop a script to delete those unwanted accounts on our server stops.

Example:

Delete character that does not connect to X months and has level less than 100.

For servers with a lot of players believe it would help a lot. Does anyone have or know how?

Yes, it is possible. There is field in char's xml, where stored info about logins. Just need script for iweb/pwadmin + db which inspect database and game server for such a chars, and if whole account is "old" - deletes it from gameserver and database.

There is no need to delete in-actives except for maybe once a year, or once every OTHER year (every two years -or- 730 days). So there's no real reason to have it automated/'scripted' (unless you're that fucking lazy).

You could manually enter your database once a year (hell even while the servers are "up") and sort by date and manually delete any accounts that have not logged in in over 365 days or 730 days. Or whatever period you determine. I would personally recommend 730 days because everyone is different and has different playing habits/styles.

what a problem with non active account? :mellow: you are using 10Gb hdd? :huh:

Actually even a 10GB HDD could probably hold a bajillion accounts... he must be using like a 1GB drive !

Indeed 16GB of ram, but a long process of consultations to update's rank and other information. You have 500k characters created, and almost half are secondary, not logam, convey and are insignificant. It is still a utility. Another issue is less chance of corrupting files with less information.

You must have a 1 mhz cpu if you think 500k queries to mysql and a small bit of processing is something to worry with...

Who said anything about mysql? Mysql delete accounts does not change anything, I mean the characters in dbd.

Characters in game dbd still don't take up squat for space ...

I am willing to bet that you could fit every single players account and character (ALL db data) from official PWi onto a single CD... That is, I am willing to bet that ALL combined database info for even official PWi is 700 MB or less :p

Assuming each character takes up 50 kilobytes (this is a high estimate, more then likely it is lower as what is there to store? really...)

You could contain 14,336 uncompressed, tack on some compression and that number is likely to go way down.

Assuming they only take up about 10 kilobytes (which is probably closer to reality) you get 71,680 characters

Going by an account I recently created for PWI which ended up with the ID 5,936,789 and divide that by 8 you get 742,098.625 which pretty much means there is probably about 750,000 accounts for PWE (this is across ALL game due to how they do their registration)
If every single one of those accounts had a moderate 4 characters each occupying 10 kilobytes you'd get a measly 28 gigabytes

Now if you SOMEHOW manage to get more characters then PWE has AND SOMEHOW manage to afford a webhost for a long enough period to occur and that server SOMEHOW doesn't have 30 gigabytes of space on its hard drives you failed at picking a server

I really think you're estimating too high Das. If it was 10 kilobytes per character that would be 10240 bytes -or- 81,920 bits :o

I think it's more like 1 kilobyte per character tops. (1024 bytes -or- 8192 bits)

So if that were to be accurate even 750,000 accounts all with 8 chars would still only be a mere 6GB, and honestly I think that may still be a high estimate. I think if I get the time I will create a character, fully expand his bag and bank and fill it, and blah blah blah and see how much that takes up; do a lil test just to find out...

You are talking very low, the PW LVL UP BR Late last year broke the record with 26k players online. Imagine now how many items / post and similiares. The PWI has much more online. I'm absolutely sure that the PW changed his engine.

But what I'm saying is that to upgrade my mysql with the information of all the characters takes about 50 minutes. Guilt accounts useless, decreasing these accounts would be faster, so the maintenance on the servers would be lower.
