I am about to start work on an aging tool. The tool will open the specific dat file of a specific item and increment the age level as well as stats based on user input. Its going to take me a little bit to work out the formatting of the files and create a program that will correctly read and output it all. But in the end i feel this will be a massive help for those servers wishing to host item aging as a donation option.

ahh not really. Stuff like this is fairly easy for me. I have been working on manipulating pt data files for years, ive just lay dormant for a while now. Time to get back to work i think. But thanks for the luck! haha
Yes, it's been a while since we saw you around here gzuz. I wish you luck and welcome your return also. I hope you will document your findings, or share source with us too. This way we can all improve upon each others work, rather than re-do things from scratch every time we want (or find we need) to make a change. :thumbup1:
I dunno you, but you can share what you know and we'll help you. I can do some PHP to do that, I'm pretty good at it :cool2:

I located 20 routines so far that are called back and forth and shifting bits in every possible way and I'm still not able to produce a genuine item.
Just reading and incrementing the stats won't do, you'll need to get the new item checksum right as well.

You modify a .itm file, then pass it through Item Validator, and the ~/@Get it and it appears with the stats as you have made them.
Amazing, i've been studying the forum these days and find so many useful things that i cant get in chinese websits.
I often find things in Chinese, Vietnamese or Japanese websites that I can't find here. (and, often Russian ones, but those aren't specifically PT things)
The problem is I don't know the language well enough to explain them, and they don't usually come with source code. :(:
For example, I'd love to make this stat calculator available to players who don't speak Japanese. But it's author ("Chrunch-Loop") doesn't seem keen to share the source. (It's only a VB 6 app, but nicely laid out. They do give the formula, but I'm not sure I understand the variables without seeing the code.)
I suspect the exact stat calculations vary from one language server to another too... but with the source code that wouldn't matter.
If you find things on Chinese sites that you think we may be interested in, please let us know zgjsyxwj. ^_^ Or, maybe you think you could provide a Chinese translation for my X-Trap Video Guide so that it would be more help to those who can understand that very popular language. (It's like English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic in that it is used many places, even where it is not "native".)
I have said, I failed my Japanese exams. But just having studied, means I can stumble along somewhat. I don't really know Chinese at all. I can recognise a few very common Cantonese phrases "when spoken" but not many. (And some of my Taiwanese friends mix English and romanised Chinese all the time when they "chat" on-line)
Watching films or the CCNN world service I sometimes think I am hearing similar ones in Mandarin, which I think is written almost the same, but pronounced very differently. (I can "hear" when people are speaking Caton or Manderin... and suspect some some of the more obscure dialects in provincial reports from CCNN, but it doesn't mean I understand what any of them are saying. -_-#)

Youtube is banned in China, ridiculous~ I use a tool to watch ur video, however it shows video not found or access denied. What a pity. If u dont understand Chinese, I can try my best to do the translation.
@sheen: Anything dropped on the floor (by player or monster) gets a .itm file. This file can then be ~/@Get or WHY. It also contains many checksums so that the server will ignore it if they don't match the data held within.
A common way for "Private Servers" to create "Donation Items" is to take a standard item, drop it, modify the stats to "super-charge" it and keep the .itm file with an easy to remember name. Then GM can give (or ~/@Get) that item on the character which wishes to receive it.
This means the item doesn't have a unique ID, and cannot be created by hackers, or even found by scanning the item list in the client. ^_^
They are, sometimes, leaked by compromised "Donator" accounts and an item duping hack. :(: So it's not a perfect, unbeatable system, but does have some security advantages. :wink:
@zgjsyxwj: That is a shame. I thought that Google and the Peoples Republic had made up their differences... but maybe blocking YT from the PRC was one of the compromises. :(:
Sadly, I don't know any other video host that allows you to add multiple "closed captions" or "subtitles" in different languages.
I think that many people bypass the PRC Firewall by joining the Tor network, or similar. But since that would be a "crime against the state", and a flagrant disregard of "state censorship" imposed for the "safety and protection" of the people of China, I'm not "telling you" you should do that. :wink:
In all honesty, the internet is a dangerous place, and "the media" can distort ones world view. Whether you impose your own censorship (as I do, via my own Proxy filter) or the state sets one up for you is a matter of national and personal preference. IMHO
My government is currently looking to implement a similar state control over the internet. While I am concerned that this will take away my freedom of choice, I also have to acknowledge the fact that many families do not protect them selves (and especially their children) sufficiently from the many dangers on the internet. I only worry that this will not be my governments primary concern. :(:
Bobs, I think u misunderstood me. I can't watch YT normally, but I can watch by using some tool. The problem is video not found or access denied. Have u met same problem before?
