Hey all. Me and my dad will be getting free room in our house soon, and as we play many online games we wanted to know if we could create a server to host some games on, like Enemy territory.
We need the specs so we can build ourself one. Thanks :):thumbup:
If you mean how good your pc must be, I think I can help some, mainly what you need to run a fast server is good cpu and high DDR (MB ram) I won't go lower then 1024MB DDR. I hope that was what you mean ...
2gig of memory and high end cpu will do... not to mention fast line...
Is 2MB Fast enough. Can some one tell me where i could buy some things for it?

not really, i doubt you have SDSL, so your upload is probably 256k... which could probably only host around 5-8 people on most games.... that is if you're not hogging the bandwidth of your Internet from other computers.Quote:

Whoever said 2gbs of ram is a retard, and I almost want to say the same for 1gb. When I was playing that game and hosting rooms I had 512mb of ram and a 100mbs cable connection; I could host a full server without lag. The host is more reliant on the connection, unless the host is playing in the server.

Look, we speak english on this forum; not poseur japanese. Now that we have established your need for suicide, lets press on. Computers, personal computers and other underlined material relating, are becoming business tools. The console industry, with the next generation, is taking the heat off. However, for this game I would suggest taking it to a library and running it as a new registry through a worm, then control the server through your house(through a proxy network and a router with a scrambler). Haha, no, I wouldn't suggest that.

I have purchased a new computer since then and it has more a substantial gain from my last computer; ram and cpu, as well some other hardware.

Alright, I am seeing lots ofcrazy pointing going on here so Ill fix it right quick...
The server specs need to be matched with what you are plannign to hsot
If you are wanting to host a game like Lineage II, WoW, or those high end graphical games, you will need a good chucnk of ram, preferably 2 gigs, 1 gig will work well enough though and of course a fast upload.. I run a 640k/640k DSL line and can host upwards of 20-60 people, depending on the game I am running
If you are hosting games like CS, any half-life mods, first person shooters.. etc etc you will need a fast processor and a fast internet connection, RAM isnt nearly as important because you arent storing on the fly data in the quanitities as a large graphical game... but it is important needless, get at least 512 RAM here, so the processor speed will need to be at its highest to transmit data that is needed, and for better loading times...
For ALL servers, a fast hard drive is very wanted (SCSI if you got money, SATA if you dont) If you can, get yoru hands on 2 Western Digital Raptor drives and configure them in a RAID-0 format for a relatively cheap price, effictiveyly giving you double the processing and handling speed of data... this will increase throughput to the clients at a more readily pace then a standard IDE cable drive...
