The average wage here in Australia is over $55,000 but even though our dollar is stronger than the USD, the cost of living here is SIGNIFICANTLY higher.
The average rent is over $25,000 per year, while the average mortgage cost is over $35,000 per year. A 3 bed 1 bath house in a mid-class area will still cost you at least $350,000-500,000.
Normal costs of living are inflated also; Groceries + fuel + electricity + water + internet + phone very easily comes up to over $1,500 per month, for 3 people.
Some people will find those figures to be very high, while others will find them to be rather low. It simply depends on the country.
