Creating an on-line 'portfolio'

What should be included throughout, how should the content be displayed? Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Well would help if you said what you are putting in your portfolio.
Photography, illustration, graphic design?

I know it seems a bit vague, but display it uniquely. People who use these free portfolio sites are usually only noticed for their work. If you have a decently layed out portfolio then people are going to remember it, regardless of the quality of the work.

You could start by analysing other portfolios and just, quite simply, be different.

Well because you have a range, and you have website design under your belt I would just suggest creating your own website

home page (obv) about, contact and the portfolio section, with all the different types in different sections. Keeps it clean and easy to brouse through. Then keep it to a small selection of your stuff on the website with links to sites with more range of work.

for example, the video section with a link to vimeo/youtube (vimeo would be preffered)
photography flikr or something...

I shall :) working on a design now, I think I'll have three main pages: home, about, contact (I'll eliminate the 'portfolio' side of things and include it on the home page).

Think of it like this your portfolio is your first actual deal sealer for new comers.

reason why ideal clients won't hit that contact button.
- Generic looking site
- Lack of Originality
- Lack of Professionalism
- Lack of Dept
- not enough or over done portfolios are hard to take seriously

What you have so far is what I'm talking about. Find Inspiration, Get a sheet of grid paper and draw up a template where everything will go and the key functions of the site take notes. Find more inspiration Revise and so on till you are satisfied with what you have.
