[General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
Today I stopped for a second and thought about what I wanted to be as a coder. A Web Developer, a Game Developer, a Computer Scientist? Forgetting about what I know the most about, or have the most experience in, I thought about why I got into this whole coding thing to begin with- games.
Out of all the games I've played, the ones I played the most were simulations. Age of Empires, SimCity, RollerCoaster Tycoon- to name a few, were more addicting to me than say, Halo.
The most influential coder of simulation games would be Will Wright. (Opinion?)

With that said I want to know:
Who's your Idol coder and why?

Hahaha that's pretty epic
But ontopic, don't really have an idol coder nor any idol over all.
Got into coding because back in 2005 (i think) I was interested in coding server-side mod scripts for samp. I failed badly but that's where I started, I was like 14 or 13 and had no idea what "switch case" was.... I still wonder how I got into web coding at all
Re: [General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
I'm not really sure. Probably Rob Pike or Andrew Gerrand. Rob just seems to be a great person and he has worked with operating systems, compilers and distributed systems, all the stuff I want to learn about. Andrew is really awesome person and generally a great programmer.
Re: [General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
I'm pretty uncertain, I got into coding because my brother has been doing it as long as I can remember and I always thought it was fascinating, so at around 12 I started learning HTML and I currently work as a backend programmer for a web developing company.
How did I get here? Hah no idea, but I never really had any "idol" since well, I kinda just got into it because it just became a passion for me...
If I had to choose it would be someone that has made a living for himself and created something new and exciting that no one has ever done before, or someone that pushed the boundaries of computer science and opened the gates of computer science to a bigger audience, it could be someone like a programmer at Microsoft that was among the ones that first designed the Windows OS's, that might not be the OS of choice for a lot of people, but it opened up the world of computers to a LOT of people, and if it wasn't for that, I might not even be working with what I love today.
So yeah, most likely someone I don't even know the name of would be my idol... Hopefully u get what I am trying to get across ^^.
Re: [General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
It's pretty hard for people (imo) to find an Idol in programming since most of the times what might inspires us is the application itself and what it does, not who made it come true. I personally don't have any Idol coder but I do find inspiring every single programmer that work towards the development and creation of new applications to help and/or entertain us in this wrecked world. Those who program are the brains of the future and their applications are the faces.
Lets all just be rich and famous coders, k? Always learning!
Re: [General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
Mark Zuckerberg. Since before the Social Network I've been interested in finding out about this guy, I think he's interesting and he's an awesome programmer.
Re: [General] Who's Your Idol Coder?
Currently: Andrew (Redigit) Spinks of Terraria fame.
I'll add more of my past (and mostly still favorite) coders later.

The question wasn't what you do and what you do it with, the question was who is your idol coder; who do you look up to as a programmer?

I respect anyone who can code.
