This topic is really only for people who run or owned a server before. I'm pretty curious to find out how many private servers pay their staff members, since if you're going to make 5-15 grand a month you might as well, right? So far I've only seen three private servers that actually give their workers a form of payment, whether it's cash, ingame donor money or both.
Yeah.. If the server is getting more popular.. I would pay my staffs. Most probably for any Good Developers out there.
I pay to developers only, since all GameMasters says that they love to help other people :>

Of the 3 servers I worked for, payment was in-game CS points.
When i had my server i never paid my staff members, though i wish i did.
I believe the game masters shouldn't be paid, as this job is more for fun and a job for loyal members that want to contribute more then playing and/or donating.
Regarding the developers, i believe they should have gotten paid as they did a quite amazing and brilliant work on my old server. But i never really paid developers that was a part of the staff. I did pay experienced coders and developers to do work for me, but those wasn't my employees full time. I think the flyff developers don't get the reward/payment they deserve, but i know for sure some developers works for fun. I mean, its fun being a developer as long as you know you're doing something good for the server you love. Payment doesn't really matter to most developers compare to other private server games.
Some people get paid Donation Points to their ALT char as we call it. ( also known as characters that employees plays on, which is not game masters or got anything to do with the position they got ) And i believe this is a good way giving something back to the developers, without giving out donation that is suppose to go to the server. The server needs the donation to live, except some huge servers.
So basically, payment as in dollar is non importance for most developers but donation points for ALT chars may be given out as a reward.
I never paid my full time developers, and neither any other employees.
I don't pay them, cause they really work 2 or 3 weeks then do nothing else...

i was a owner but then i got boarded so i just go to serch a server to devlope and i found the mine XD
and i told to the owner that i will work freely
There's also a lot of devs out there willing to dedicate themselves to the server full time if there's no drama or problems too.Quote:

yeah work for free :3 it should be for fun. i mean most servers donations go all to dedi's since most can barley afford to pay them. My current server we are paying everything out of our own pockets. so its pretty much paying for the chance to even have a good server :3
but unless it is something like major and you need like someone to code it for you. they shouldn't be paid
They just want an Alternate Characters for Siege. :> Thats all they want.
Admins and Developers, yes. I pay full-time staff quite a bit(enough to live off of). It's only fair when they're putting in 7hours+ per day.
