last release kpt server?
WTF?
Which KPT Server?
There has never been an official KPT server release. Every release here is designed differently from the official KPT.
With that knowledge in mind... What are you asking for?
i see many post with diferent version but dont have complete link, dead or need file dont have pack
All versions are jPT 4096. The version relates to the 1st 2nd 3rd release from that particular developer or team, and the modifications they have made. Nothing more.
What you ask is like "last release Intel operating system"... to which I would ask "Windows, DOS, Linux, BSD, QNX, Be, OS/2, OS/X? What are you asking for?"
Do you see my point? All servers are jPT (specifically, a Beta Japanese client, not really a server at all) adapted to work on KPT clients. (port and encoding) In that sense they are all KPT serves. The version number developers give them are so they can keep track of what stage of development they where at.
Some of us are reasonably fastidious in keeping track of changes between version number. (patches, bug-fixes etc.) Sometimes those are listed with the release.
However, to compare (just for example) any version number of Ultimate PT with any version of Specute is like comparing a certain version number of any release of BSD with the version number of a release of Linux.
Yea, they are both Unix based, but their development started at different times, they are updated at differing intervals, they both have several "branches" of sub-development (NetBSD vs. FreeBSD or RedHat vs. Suse) etc. The version numbers are completely incomparable.
Better you follow the date of the initial release post. And even then, bare in mind that we often re-upload older servers if they are popular, no longer supported (the developer no longer visits) and the forum link dies. :\:
In particular, I tend to re-host very very old developments from others. Because the less development that was done, the cleaner, and clearer the actual server executable edits are.
i try get one server up, but all guide i see is outdate or dont have all files need for make this
sry but me english is bad i speak spanish
So I gathered. No shame, as I say, it is a very common modern language, and you make good efforts with our English forum.
Some guides where corrupted in a server update... I have re-posted one, and the author of another updated it less than a year ago.
The method of setting up a PT server now has not changed since 2007. (provided you are still using a Windows based Server OS that was available in 2007)
Note that installation on x64 OS is... hard. The program doesn't like x64 versions of Windows, and the "fixes" to get around this are simply not standard. It isn't really practical to guide you on that, as it's something for reasonably advanced geeks. The average "knows-it-all" geek would still fail, even with a guide.
Also note, the server cannot be installed on Windows 7. Even if it's x86. (if anyone can do it, please tell me how)
You won't find a Server for rent or sale with Windows 7 on it though. Win7 is strictly home / office OS, not for server use. So that's not really a problem unless you are trying to run it at home. (in which case, I strongly recommend a Virtual Machine with 2000, XP, or 2003 Server on it)
Other than these points... the guides we have are as good as anything we would write now. I've looked at writing a modern one, but it doesn't make sense because it would be exactly the same as the old one, but with some parts removed in the "configure your client" areas that no longer matter. (you can do them, but there is no need to... if you have a 19xx version client)
I might also make alterations because we have some newer and easier programs, and I would definitely not recommend "Notepad" for anything PT related. (because post Win9x Windows became Unicode "as standard" with ANSI as an optional backward compatible feature, as opposed to the other way around, so Notepad doesn't work very well on Korean ANSI text files, which most PT text files are) But you can read my guide on dealing with Korean text files as a "supplementary" addition.
Anything else that has changed is specific to a particular server developer... and if their release was official, they should have documented those changes. (otherwise, either it's not released by the person(s) who developed it [a leek / leech / stolen server] or "same on them")
The server hasn't been recompiled since 28th October 2005 to be precise, so... tell me where any of our guides are older than that date?
I am working on a Video Tutorial with Windows 2008 Server. Because the text based ones where done at a time when streaming Video was not so readily available, and some people seem to work better that way. But it takes time to be sure you are going to have a perfect once through run, capture it, edit it (speed up the install waits etc) comment it, and... I will subtitle it, and share the subs for others to translate, just as I did with my last video guide.
The thing that bores me most about video guides is that any audio commentary can only be understood in one language... so they end up re-made by lots of different people in every different language. >.<
Once you talk about kpt server files and now you talk about another thing.
Yes the guides are old because there is nothing new under the sun.
And try not to be general, be more specific .. help us to help you :P
Thanks Imri. (Imri does not speak English as his first language either, and struggled much as you cheval_irc are now a couple of years ago )
A couple of times now I have muttered to my self, "what does he actually want to do with a PT Server? If I knew I'd tell him where to get started."
Thanks telatoro.
Can you help me translate to Spanish as well? It would be great to get a PT "en español" and also to have my "Basic X-Trap disable" subtitles in Spanish. ^_^
Sure just tell me what u need be translated, anyway i had been too lazy to see if access5 client is fully spanish.
These sub-titles for a start. I am still trying to support in as many languages as possible.
I've used an automatic translator for a couple, but human translations are always preferable. :):
But I'm also considering making an editable patch script out of the English translations to Butchered 2b that Osirus provided for Butchered2b. That could then be adapted to any language. ^_^
