I see that you can get 580m's in sli aswell but for a steep price increase from the 6990's but are they really better?

58xx and 68xx series mobile cards can also be turned into FirePro series professional CAD graphics cards with a softmod, so for professionals in the media/rendering/cad industry who do require alot of RAM it's actually a very cheap alternative to the hardware they usually have to purchase.Quote:

I don't see the purpose, at all. If you wanna lug around a huge laptop to play games else where that's just, your choice but I see no point in it when a good gaming rig is cheaper and will preform better.
and sorry i was talking about the desktops not the laptops of alienwares and it depends honestly I have not found a single laptop I have liked for gaming I have found no point in the thing thats why i said what I said
If you're a gamer who travels alot then carrying a desktop everywhere just isn't viable. Price isn't everything, a desktop isn't automatically better in every situation just because it's cheaper and faster. Sometimes portability and convenience has to take top priority.
Like i also said in my above post, the high-end mobile Ati cards can also be softmodded into a FirePro professional graphics card, so it's very convenient and cheap for media/CAD people to use for work & take their work home with them.

I too bought my own gaming laptop for that, gaming.. a big 18.3" screen on it, runs all games jsut fine, and I have ultimate portability with it!
When I go to a lan party, I just throw my laptop, mouse, and pad into my backpack and scoot over there - with my desktop, carrying around a big 27.5" screen as well as all the keyboard, case, mice, speakers/headphones.. yeah, its not portable, by any means.
