There was already a proposal to introduce Sharia courts to the UK. Last year..? Not sure on the dates. I didn't personally think that was such a bad idea, provided they are only involved in the decision making process, and the punishment side is still dealt with in accordance with UK law. Of course the Tabloid Press kicked up a stink about it.
The fact is that the UK already allows many religious groups to try members of their faith in their own faith court, particularly around "family law" like Marriage, Divorce and cases surrounding parental responsibility. Both parties must be members of that faith and agree that they would prefer to have the case heard in their faith court. So not allowing Muslims their own court is actually state prejudiced against Islam.
I'm not particularly keen on associating Law and Order with Religion. As far as I'm concerned "crime" is one thing and "sin" another thing entirely. But I dislike seeing any one faith treated any differently to any other far more.
