l2j will fall apart soon enough when NCsoft desides to
upgrade there engine to the newest Unreal shit (this will happen in c5-6), l2j will have be totally rewriten which most likely will set them back even more to a state
where it might be impossible for them to catch up (project will fall apart?)
And the official software can never be hexed good enough for a another version
of the Unreal engine to connect to.
Maybe we just should perfect c1-3 (maybe 4) and from that point
just start making custom stuff for the l2 private servers.
(I hope I'm totally wrong tho, I love the l2 private servers
and hope they will stay around for years 2 come. I just doubt it..)
At least in l2j we can start over and still use some of the old stuff.
Aseren I'd have to say some of your assumptions are incorrect about L2J being able to cope with upgrades...
C1OFF is what will die, and fast. It already is....
L2J was on top of c3 way before the chinese released hexed exes, which are still horrid. Not to mention the geodata issue that will always plague us..
If L2 moves its client to the new platform, what would that do to the server? Very little. The client, and it pretty graphics, mean absolutely nothing for server side.
NCSoft won't create the extra work for themselves for completely restructuring the server engine. It won't change.. theyre not stupid.
In c3 they completely changed the login packets structure.. notice c1off can only use a exe that is encrypted with EXECryptor to see the login screen correctly... which is a trial lol. The only other l2server exe has the login screen fuxed everyones humans and none of the stats apear.
NCSoft won't re-structure the server in a way to create themselves an enourmus ammount of work, and L2J will really be on top of it as long as the community holds together. Its gaining C1OFF people every day.. and admins of c1off know alot about the minor innerworkings of the game, skills, etc.. and will benifit the l2j community greatly.
Basicly, in due time, l2j will be top with no questions asked. At this point, its personal choice. Both options arent very stable/complete. ... but l2j will be on top in the end :)
tbh, you guys should all sit back and let Digital and his crew handle it. Whether they release their files publicly or only to a select group of servers, I couldn't care less... I'm back to playin officials on my friend's 53 Glad...

Actually NCSoft licensed the 3rd version fo Unreal engine not for Lineage but for ... Tabula Rasa. You'll see that pretty soon. Lineage II will stick to Unreal 2 engine for the time being unless they suddenly decide to make a future Chronicle with Unreal 3 which is less probable.
