Designer vs Copier - Stealing ideas
Okey, I hope i'll get my answer because I care of every reply here.
So here we go.
Recently I registered template project in mamboforge.com to make free templates and some other GPL stuff.
I'd released some templates but then I tried to "copy" the existing site's design to my system and I was amazed that it's not hard to do.
So my point is to know if I can use such templates for commercial purposes such as sell the template to others.
The way I make my templates is the following: I use the PIXget tool for finding out what are the color codes of the original site and then try to re-make everything with PhotoShop using no images from the original site (I mean I draw every element by myslef). I use only the color codes of that site, and, of course, I do not put any copyrighted names or images there.
But the rectangles and colors cannot be the matter of copyright so I am not using the 1:1 stuff...
So can I sell such stuff and don't worry of being suited. Or maybe the original owner can only flame me but nothing more?
I have prepared one example
Original site: http://www.jamboworks.com/
Made by myself: http://lexx.tinkle.lt/ (the top menu does not work atm)
btw, since I am not a designer and the costs of such service (making designs) is quite high I can't do nothing else just "steal" ideas...
