I know this has been asked alot but i have no access to the net except via cell and i cant look at some pages but i am using hrace vbox image and i need to increase swap file and it would b helpful if can post it here. I did it b4 but i cant acess the wiki via cell and thanks

Only way I know of increasing your swap size is reformatting the partitions and remaking the swap from scratch. There may be another way but if there is it is unknown to me.
from my understanding about swap and ram and all that funky stuff
the general rule of thumb is to never have your swap more then double.
ex 2gb ram = 4gb swap no more then that,
i have attempted these values with a test on my server all it did was cause delay,lag, and a bunch of roll backs as its pushing really hard already, so increasing the load onto your swap and making it bigger your gonna get issues unless you know what your doing.
who knows i may be wrong, i try not to mess with swap.... just buy more ram. or bigger ram

However, in no case should anyone ever be recommending more than 2:1 anymore. This isn't 1995. :thumbdown: 2:1 is iffy enough of a default anymore.

To use a disk file for additional swap:
First, create the file. Use a different path as "of" if you like. Also, this is for a 1GB swap file. To make it 2GB, change the "1M" to "2M". To make it 512MB, change the "1024" to "512". You should be able to figure out how it works from there... :cool:
Now, initialize the new swap area so that the system will know it can use it safely. (Again, change the path if you need.)Code:# dd bs=1024 count=1M if=/dev/zero of=/var/swapfile

There's no need to play with the system-provided swap partition. Nor is there a reason to repartition your disk. For the past number of years, swap files and swap partitions are equally fast under Linux.
