What settings is your camera on? and what lens are you using?
What I dont like about the first one is that there are huge shadows around his eyes, and he has fantastic eyes, it just seems a shame.
What you are doing with your portriture, you would benifit from a 50mm lens. I have a f1.8 for a canon which cost me £99, but the 1.4 is £300. Get one if you can.
Do you mind if i crop the images around to show you how you need to think about framing?
Most of these were taken with an old Nikkor 50mm lens.
