Anyone ever used server4you.com?
https://order.server4you.com/pages/dedicated/
Look at their prices. I wanted to know if anyone has used them, if they are reliable, and WHY the hell are their prices so cheap? Seriously that's like buying a car for $2.
If you can give a review of them, or just simply say "go stay away from them!", that would be helpful.

It's not like dirt cheap hosts with "my first web template" are unreliable/scammy or anything...
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
The first set of servers are cheap because they use AMD processors, if I remember rightly from a post I read here somewhere PW only works on intel processors but would need someone to confirm that as I'm not 100% certain.

OOOK, back on track. When das gets talking about processors and shit he won't shut up.
So, they do look scammy. You have to PHYSICALLY write them (yes with snail mail) in GERMANY to cancel your service.

AMD only supports dual channel memory, and generally a slower FSB. Both are afaik 45 nm - there aren't that many techical differences, specially since (logically) they both are of x86 architecture (otherwise they would not support windows). I guess only real noticable difference is the price?

That's right glink (or gdelivery) used to check for genuine intel (which has nothing to do with architecture) but this has been patched by community long ago, even before RZ-PW started. In other words: it was true but now it will run on either system.
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
Its not about what they offer its more to do with where they are located, a lot of services are being closed these days for running illegal services such as a gameserver so be careful with the location.
- Romania
- Russia
- France
are the better 3 to get a server in those locations without much hassle.
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
Meh. BACK ON TRACK PEOPLEZ. Anyone physically used them?
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
no, but the fact that they dont tell you the line uplink speed is scary.
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
Since it's so cheap, if you're looking for hosting services why not just try it then? Just wondering... If you really want to know how they are (I'm guessing that no one here has used them before, ever) best way to find out would be first hand... Then you're also not potentially listening to someone elses bias or personal opinions which may or may not be true about them... If you have to physically send them snail mail to cancel though, I would sign up, and prepare that letter same day so you're all set to cancel should you not be satisfied with their service... Or maybe you will like it, and stay with them ???
Although I only saw that they offered physical locations of USA and Europe =\ So I would NOT use these if you're looking to use it as a PW game server, BAD idea... I would listen to Brian on that one and go for a server located in:
- Romania
- Russia
or
- France

I'm looking for more details on the speed, so far I found "ultra-fast backbone with over 150 GBit" - looking for more specific now.
Did find this

Your choice when selecting a Dedicated Server should prioritize high performance and availability. Better still, is a decision that encompasses both these elements at a fair price. No problem for SERVER4YOU, because each Dedicated Server has its own 100 Mbit switch port which it is connected directly to our own ultra-fast Gigabit backbone. That way, we can deliver a high performance average as well as the guaranteed availability of at least 99% (99.9% for ProServers). And due to excellent Ping times, our Dedicated Servers are also ideal as game servers.
So even though I haven't seen it bluntly stated per server basis, I would think they're offering 100 Mbit/s connections for these services ...
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
100Mbit is ok.
To cancel the service realistically all you gotta do is stop paying them and they will get the message.
99% uptime might sound like alot, but thats still up to 7 hours each month that you agree to let your server be offline for. (99.9% on the pro servers = 42 mins of downtime). It's pretty average but you can find hosts with 99.95% or 99.99%, some even have refund schemes for datacentre downtime.
Also if france worked for wikileaks it will work for us.
Re: Anyone ever used server4you.com?
I have searched the interwebz more for information and reviews, I don't like what I see.
They don't give the up and down speed because nobody would buy one if they did. Someone with a European server downloaded something, the average speed is 2-10 mbit per sec, NEVER going out of that range.
That's bullshit. Pardon my french, but damn. That is.
Thanks guys, I went with 1and1.com and I am setting up dedi now :D
