The RealmPT service is discontinued indefinitely
SubaGames has requested the RealmPT service to cease its activities before the 25th of January 2012
Hope you dont think of me spamming by posting this, just letting those of you know who have fairly big servers to be careful
Maybe the owner has learned enough from pt.
(its just to change the server's name and start all over again, if he wants XDD)

Well it had to happen sooner or later.
RealmPT was a massive server generating a lot of money from donations and driving people away from the official servers.
RealmPT had the opportunity to reverse engineer the leaked files and build on top of it because the whole activity was illegal anyways (like every private server is).
Subagames cannot do that because of the terms of their contract with Yedang, they had to wait on the good will of Yedang developers for every single change. They weren't in position to compete with such an advanced server, that's probably why they took action.
It's sad to see a server go (like ChaosPT recently which was closed by the administrator because they lacked players and funds) but you can't expect something illegal to last forever (:
well, now that sandurr has earned enough maybe he could share some info, at least, he only knows what he knows because of the leaked files that someone released. its kinda selfish of his part.

However, Subagames is accusing RealmPT of stealing their players. I don't personally think that RealmPT stole any players; all players have a choice to take and decided wherever they want to play.
It is pretty obviously that the players will search for the best (everything else than SubaGames ATM). Since SubaGames took over ePT, it has gone downhill, no need to mention more. Therefore SubaGames have lost all their players to better servers (including RealmPT).
It is funny how SubaGames always blame YDonline when something isn't working or whatever - all the other official servers don't suffer from the same problems as SubaGames.
I don't think this is right way to end this - MagicPT down, RealmPT down who will be next? In the end this will damage the English PristonTale environment; players are now mad over that SubaGames have done this against the private servers and therefore won't the vast majority of the players return to SubaGames. Besides that are 50 % of SubaGames current players very dissatisfied over how the management handles the server. In the end this might be a backlash for SubaGames; I don't think their player-base will increase (based on the above mentioned), and SubaGames is already suffering from hackers and cheaters who try to damage their server - who knows, maybe somebody wants to get rid of their frustrations and anger (this could damage SubaGames even more).
In short: I don't agree on SubaGames actions against the private servers.

It's sad to hear that one of the biggest server was closed by people who can't even configure clan server.
I think that this is direct threat to all of us. Recent events (close of megaupload) show us that freedom of internet might end one day.
This information might be the end of fan development.
Somehow being closer to SOPA/PIPA/ACTA make us all "dead".

That said, suba is just venting frustration. They get paid to do a job they don't do, then complain and pout like a little kid when someone does it better than them. Modifying the server was a small part of what kept people on RPT, a lot of it was the way they responded to their clients. Suba may not have rights to modify things [then again none of us know the exact details on that], but at the very least they could provide good customer service, but they don't. It's the same as most retail servers [which is why so many go to private], they completely ignore their customers and then are surprised when they'll drop them at the first sign of something better. Instead of blaming others for what they refuse to do, they could just own up to their responsibilities and do it. Seeing as how they don't, I don't really feel sorry for their "lost users".

As for Suba, as Gregoo points out, their license is too restrictive to allow them to do the job they are paid to do effectively.
I've described their client as "crap", but I don't particularly blame them for that... they have to do something, and most options are legally closed to them.
Of course, the main problem is the copyright law in the first place. It allowed people to get rich on an initial sale, but stifles development for all from that point on.
There are some open source, or partly open MMOs, and I note that the more open they are, the more development and community they build.
Just a thought... and it's not like it's something Suba could implement. But is something they have been arguing with Yedang for a long time. :wink:

Remember that SubaGames only contacted the server hosting company and not Sandurr immediatly.
So I guess Sandurr just hired a new VPS or Dedicated machine and threw his server on there.
sandurr is currently talking with subagames directly, since sandurr is very valuable, he has his own source code and much knowledge

I still think PristonTale is better to be managed by true players who have played and experienced the game than some company who just randomly bought a license.

RealmPT has perfect balance in the different classes, monsters and weapons.
Same goes for XPing; the first and most boring levels (around 1~40) are easily skipped by just playing for ten minutes. Around level 70 it'll be harder to level up but some fun and custom-made quests make this easier to get through and even in higher levels you are able to play several challenging quests.
And that is something I havent seen from SubaGames.
@Rutgertje I loved the lower levels much more.
Fighting in GoF spending hours to get lvl 10 then running to the next map getting your ass handed to you then having to go back and lvl up some more or get new equipment. Plus the lower lvl maps were made with so much more detail, they are pretty and more like a labyrinth, especially the Morion side. Running away from a group of monsters, hit a dead end and get raped.
I feel the lower lvling should be harder and higher lvling a bit easier, the exp curve need to be adjusted greatly. Its no fun when you can easily get to lvl 50 in a day. You miss out on all the maps and challenge that make this game great.

It was fun back then because low lvl maps where full of players, not guys full of "crystals".
I don't think that subagames can get anything from deal with rPT... beside money.

Ofcourse some might disagree with me and I respect that but i'm talking about RealmPT specifically and they seem to have captured a balance where you are high leveled and powerfull but still have to work hard to level up.
At the old PT (eng.pristontale .com) I loved to level up at GoF just like you described however you are missing lots of gameplay and content like SoD and BlessCastle.
Also at higher levels your character can be more custom to your own preferences since you have more skill points & stat points and that makes a great difference for instance raiding or xping or farming items.
And in terms of RealmPT you miss out a lot of Sandurr-made quests.
there is 2 different things, ept and rpt, u cant compare, rpt is like pt2 and ept is just pt1 where the max map was ice1 then ice2, no more, on rpt, alot new maps, quest and the best thing for me T5, thats why i call it pt2
I read somewhere some other server has T5 skills too, roman or something.
Any idea about that? couldn't find it though...
About subagames, most of the info on this is speculation and fear.
I highly doubt they will hire him or strike some kind of deal, they them-self can not modify EPT client, they get all there patch's and content from YD online(triglow).

The problem with Suba getting anything useful from Sandurr is that license they have.
They can't use "his source" because they can't use any source they create. They can only request similar features be implemented by the owners.
My understanding is that they license the distribution of the game in certain parst of the world. They don't own a single copy of the game any more than Dell own a single copy of Windows. And what can Dell do to copies of Windows that they sell to their customers? Maybe put a Dell logo on the System tab and one on the reinstall disc, package a couple of extra applets with it?
That's pretty much the restrictions Suba have.

Devs?.. now that's a different story. You probably shouldn't make music if you don't like listening to it, or cosmetics if you don't like make-up. Same thing for promoters... but managers? No. The only thing they should really enjoy is making money, and keeping people happy. Staff and customers alike.

if subagames went to the host first instead of directly going to sandur to shut down his server then i think suba isn't interested in sandur at all and they only want his service to discontinue and put him out of business. I don't think yedang or subagames is interested in sandurs skills at all. Like it has been mentioned yedang gives out license for pt and only yedang updates their sites. They view sandur and other private servers as copyright infridement pirates and i guess since subagames is stuggling to keep pt1 going and the threat of sopa law coming out and seeing megaupload taken down suba probally see's this as an opportunity now more then ever to strike reamlmpt and get rid of compitetion that has been lingering around far too long. Interesting that some would even think that suba wants sandur to work for them after they take down his site. They couldn't use sandur anyhow to modify their own site so what would the point be of even doing that. Don't get me wrong here i loved reamlpt and what sandur did making pt private servers that actually overshadowed subagames pt. I hate myself seeing any pt site go down but sandurs site was the best we all have seen come out so far. My two cents and i hope it doesn't offend anyone but i think most of what i said is true. Truefully i hope sandur does prevail. We will see when all is said and done in awhile. If sandur does move his site and hosts somewhere else i guess he better ip block north american territory or face subagames again.

As a business proposition, there is also "strength in numbers", as pointed out in the WoW PServer scene. It may not be as inefficient to share some of his findings as you make out Eduardo. There again, Sandurr has been sharing various snippets with us lately, and I get the impression that he is more concerned about his time being taken up supporting people who really don't know what they are doing than keeping secrets from possible rival servers. (that would be a Suba way of looking at the market :lol:)
There's a couple of things Sandurr needs from the PT community.
- He needs not to be too far ahead of the rest, or rPT becomes a nice big target for legal action.
- He needs not to be contributing the majority of new developments, or he personally becomes the target.
- He needs time to work on his developments, and not to have his time filled supporting new start-ups.
- He needs players to respect what he does with his server.
- He needs other developers not to foster the kind of jealousy which breeds contempt.
We can help him with many of those things, and wish him the best of luck. If we hinder him at any point there, he is less likely to share what he has learned with us.
Please remember that, while he is not a rampant poster, Sandurr has been making posts on RZ, almost since the very beginning. At times, the relationship has been strained, but as far as I'm concerned, he is family. Families are often strained, but they are there for one another in times of need.
I'd like to offer Sandurr our moral support in his time of need. And if this is the best place for his staff to let people know how things are progressing, I'm willing to allow that. So long as it's not "advertising"... I don't really want to see links, unless they are to another post in the Private Servers section, but any information rPT staff would like to share with players, they are welcome to make here as far as I'm concerned.
It does benefit our development for servers like rPT to exist, and succeed. It does concern other PServer admins if hosts like that are legally attacked. This discussion, be it by rPT staff, players or anyone else, is of interest to PT developers.
IDK if DK and our visors will "like" that statement or not... but we'll see.

PT isn't "finally going to die off soon" just because rPT is closed. :lol: That's actually slightly insulting, not only to the many other good PServers out there, but to the official PT servers as well. Are you from YD? :glare: I know they would love to see players loose interest in this game so they can stop investing in it just for "good will". If you would like to support a Priston lore and tradition game, convince Yetime to continue to develop and release Legend of the Ring... which was Laxe Lore, which was to be PT2 before YD dropped out of the partnership and created / bought 2nd Enigma instead.
@Sheen: Yes please. I only have older rPT clients. I doubt Sandurr will want us releasing reverse engineered rPT client bits since so many are also in uPT. Still, he may prefer to share some in a dev friendly form rather than have a bunch of halfwits trying to make rPT server clones... which would be easier than hacking out individual nice features.
I'm sure I could be considered analogous to a vulture picking over the bones of a recent corpse, but I also feel a bit "waste not, want not". Salvage is no crime in it's self. I'd appreciate it if Sandurr would give some indication of what he would consider "illegal" salvage though. XD
As to "sandurr must explain further" I'm sure that if legal questions still exist, Sandurr must limit all public communication somewhat right now. :wink: I wouldn't be surprised if the "special treatment" given to recent supporters is probably information he can trust them not to give to any legal opposition. ^_^
Maybe like last time after did get scared should be trying to sell his files again
(when sold his old files for few hundreds (uPT))
then later re-made his server with a promised T5 and pwned to that who bought his files
coz everybody was passing to this new server XD (it looks like a kind of scam for me o.o).
Bet trying to do that again but maybe quitting this time, well he never did care about
his crew or customers, so there is no surprise... its all about making money strategy.
(its not a blame or anything lol, its good when people care about their pockets)
