Best PC specifications for server's
well as the topic says ... first i dont like the idea of having 2 machine's for a gameserver ... so i was thinking ,what's the best to start a 120cap server on a 1 machine
i have 3 pc's 2 has INTEL CORE I5 each with 8GB RAM's and 2 TB HDD ,, the other one is a bit low on processor , Dual core with 4GB rams and a 1TB HDD ... i tried to use the jupiter map on with the first pc's and it doesnt load .. i was thinking maybe putting more ram ? so suggest some =P thanks ! no negative comments please -.- dont give useless words that will be ignored anyways

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
Not to create another thread I wanted to ask how much players this pc could hold with 1 region enabled.
quad 2,3Ghz, 4gb ram and 100 mb line.
Another question how much ram space 1 player takes?

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
u can host server even on pc with 3g ram.. but it will lag like hell..
it also depends on server u want..
if u wanna make pvp server than 8gb ram will work just fine
in pvp server u dont rly need many regions 2 be opened.. u can open jangan and set all spawns in jangan and u will be fine..
btw CPU dosent rly matter.. i mean speed only.. ram is more important in this case.
if u wanna make pve server than u need more ram because of maps..
but i recomend get 2 host and host 2x gs.. but its up2 u.. idc xD
***my english sux.. sry bout it^^***

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
Its okay .. so i shall increase the ram ? to what ? am thinking of trying first 16GB ..
-
Re: Best PC specifications for server's
much as i know and tested u can handle on 2 servers 8gb ram each 800-900 with 100mbs internet speed u can go more than 900 ppl cuz server will crash propably bcuz we runned server with 900 ppl didnt lagged and didnt crashed
so 800-900max not more for 2 servers with 8gb ram

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
I run a 120 cap server with all regions enabled.. even jupiter with mobs in all areas. I host it on my own home pc with my own ISP. I have had up to 110 players with no lag on my 4gb machine, I am upgrading to 8gb so I am sure it will increase stability. If you need any help setting up a server on 1 machine I will help you.

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
To work well it needs 2 hosts... Server is 32-bit, so, is limited to 3.5 gigabytes of memory per process. I'd say, main host: core i5, 12gb ram and second host core i3/i5, 6 - 8 gbs of ram should be enough.

uh so i'll have to double host it -.- ... okay fine then xD well ... im gonna upgrade my pc to 16GB rams anyway .. and 2nd will remain 8GB .. Thanks for the info =)
EDIT: Okay been trying some stuff out , atm iam able to run all regions except for GM EVENT/Prison regions other than that all regions are on and working , even jupiter is working now ... had to do some stuff but its working cool .. but still im upgrading to 16GB ...i feel i'll need it xD
P.S : the GM EVENT & Prison is not like they dont work .. its just idk what are they for ... so iam not using them thats why iam not making them on .

indeed well 2x 8gb ram is fine too but limit of players is 800-900 shouldnt do more bcuz 1000 ppl on 1 game server or agent its just not right bcuz of ram's and it it will crash i bough again 2x servers with 8gb ram for my server theese one's are for my own not my friend's or something so gonna be testing some stuff
but u should be running on sql 2005 bcuz 2008 r2 will use ~gb ram with 500ppl and 2005 maybe 600mb or something like that as i remember
Cheers

Re: Best PC specifications for server's
i5/7's are not recommended for servers as they are not made for 24/7 stability. Xeon processors are.
You should also use ram with error correcting code (ECC) for stability. It costs a bit more, but it's worth it. I'm personally running on 16gb ECC memory, 1x Gameserver

Re: Best PC specifications for server's

Haven't tried it myself, but judging from the specs and target platform (server) it seems to be a well fitting cpu for these types of servers.
