I myself find it pointless. A large number of people will easily find a way to bypass the restriction. What do you think?Quote:

wat. nuuuuuuuuuuu
NO! i love pirate by i live in new york but still...
You can bypass that so fast it's ridicules, and a completely pointless ruling.
Easy to get around, who cares. It'll help keep the dumbasses off the site.
The point is, this is a small step of controlling your usage over internet.
This may not be as big as PIPA or ACTA but this is the way I see it.
Its a move that your Government can say "Hey, we can actually do this!".
In regards to Bypass, Even almost 99% of people today uses internet but I am certain 50% of it does not know how to use proxy.
ThePirateBay is already blocked in Holland / The Netherlands.
So i guess it will go on to other country's yes,
Greetz,
make it 80%.
hope this trend does not continue.
They know more and more people are starting to see through their incompetence, so now they're trying to cling to control, destroying our freedoms along the way :(
Even it's pointless it's still happening. It's just another step towards an ever growing trend.
It's been in effect for a while now in the Netherlands, guess what, more has been downloaded since. What happened is that it got so much attention, that more and more people became interested in it and started to use it. It's basically free advertising.
It will. I knew this would happen, I just knew that the second the Netherlands would block the site that this would spread, while we might be small, if we do something like this, the whole world watches and has no issue following in our footsteps...
Whats funny, is that the government doesnt seem to understand that Piratebay is not the direct source of illegal downloads. It is almost exactly like Ragezone. We host a website that has links to various downloads, and provide support - but we do not actually possess any illegal files. Its the exact same with Piratebay, they support the links but do not host any downloads, what so ever.
Welcome to the world, as we know it - free speech in America is going to the pits, and now the UK is ruling over the internet in their own area!
Completely pointless. Most people will just get around the block and besides there are loads of other sides to illegally download files, the pirate bay isn't gonna stop many people.
There will always be a way to reach thepiratebay even if it is blocked, or you're just lucky and have a provider that hasn't blocked it.
Piratebay will just post up another proxy site with direct links to their site. It only takes them a few hours to do it - they have done it before. Since all pirate bay is, is just a public forum.. it just has to relocate its IP to a new one... and there is no way to stop that!
Government will do whatever they please.
We will soon witness the disappearance of the free Internet... It's inevitable.
This is just the beginning.Controling our internet usage, soon after that they will start to control our life ,what we eat, what we wear.It will look like in the movie V.
Honestly the Government can do as they please, I see no issues what so ever. This will only spring more hackers attacking the government as well as spring new developers to work around it. All the Government is doing is starting a new war they can't win. It's impossible to control what every user does.
wow stop saying it will have no affect on people who acess the site.. firstly 80% of people won't know how to proxy or be bothered, some struggle with opening torrents - as for the remaining 20% who manage to access the site, seeders will dramatically fall, thus making it much less desirable to illegally download.. This act from the UK definitely will have an impact.. And to those who say piratebay will just create a proxy site, I'm sure those proxy sites will keep getting blocked by ISP's too otherwise it would be just too easy, the UK government aren't stupid you know.
-zedout
Free proxies sucks, and some people such as myself knows how to use proxies but can't buy one ... I think I might be in trouble, I have like probably 100gb downloaded content on piratebay xD
Glorious private tracker master race reporting in.
It's not like they're blocking the bittorrent protocol, so who cares, people can just use a proxy to download the torrent file, or even google cache to get the magnet link.
Exactly... Think of it like limewire. When limewire got shut down the rise in bittorent clients actually rose. People who used limewire, now use bearshare, utorrent, Azureus, etc... The same will happen with thepiratebay as well more than likely. They could block the protocol, but this would also affect networks, gaming companies, file sharing companies, etc... Also the protocol could just be simply rewrote. Torrent sites actually pop up almost every day, some as sites themselves and some as actual forums. Point is that people will find a way to get the torrents. go to google and search "photoshop cs5.1 cracked torrent" you will see all kinds of sites pop up. If one person downloads the torrent file from thepiratebay and one downloads it from torrentreactor, they both have the same seeders because its the same file floating around the torrent system.Quote:

They just need to fuck off.
The UK government can't block proxy sites, there is absolutely nothing illegal about them and are used for many things.
In the Netherlands the blockade has proven to increase traffic, people who knew how to use torrent sites, either already know how to use proxies or will read up on them.
This is the exact same things as we got over here, if it doesn't work here, it won't work there.
PS, the UK government is stupid.
I'm sure proxy sites would be something brought up in court, something can always be don. I mean there would be experts working for the UK governments who have far more knowledge on how to stop torrents than you.. They probably are looking at what Netherlands are doing and building upon it, they would definitely have your information in regards to increased traffic.. More measures will be taken - they'll build upon the Netherlands attempt, you'll see
ps. I'm completely not in favour of it I use torrents all the the time, but if they're serious about stopping torrents they will eventually.
The internet, and the governments are becoming corrupt. It's sad, because they think they're doing good for there country, when they're only going bad.
I have a feeling the Government is not behind this ruling. They are only implementing "rules/laws".
What I can see is that there is someone/something behind the Government that pushes them to "do this stuff".
I believe this has to do with the Entertainment giants from US or UK.
One thing's for sure, the government's scared of the internet, as it has done a lot of damage regarding the government's secrets, viral videos about lie they tell us spread in only few hours and a large portion of the population is aware.
That MAY be one of the reasons.
Dude, stop thinking the government can do all that. You seem to be a government fanboy thinking they are superman.
All the government can do is annoy people, stopping proxies however is absolutely impossible, well unless you're North Korea of course.
As for the Netherlands, a judge already ruled that proxies can't be stopped.

Sort of the black internet.. the hidden internet blah blah.
Fuck the high court, the pirate bay is awesome!
I just downloaded some good high quality porn last night, so it would be a sad thing to see the Bay go. Nothing quite like HD, sure as hell beats webstreaming!
Oh wait, I am an angel.. I do not watch this pornography.
Me Care? YES :(
Now more effort is required to access the pirate bay, I know they can't really stop us from downloading torrents (I need to use a proxy now to download the .torrent file) but I'm pissed off that PoshPrick Cameron has a shitty government.
Quote from ThePirateBay
Source: http://thepiratebay.se/blog/212Quote:
The Western countries of the world all complaints about the censorship in Iran, China, Saudi Arabia and so on. But they are really the worst culprits themselves, having double morals in doing an even worse thing themselves.
Today news was out that the UK high court has decided that TPB is "massively infringing on copyright". The facts that no copyright is being infringed upon here at the site was not a welcome fact, so that was ignored apparantly.
Noone from TPB was invited to the court case, which would be normal to do in a democracy. This is not the first time this happens, it's been the same in most countries we're censored in. We have no right to speak since we're not rich.
Five ISPs got sued by the record companies to force them to block us. This is particularily interesting since music released and promoted exclusively here on TPB is currently in the brittish top charts. We are simply competitors that they just managed to squeeze out of their market, in a maffiesque way.
As usual there are easy ways to circumvent the block. Use a VPN service to be anonymous and get an uncensored internet access, you should do this anyhow. Or use TOR, I2P or some other darknet with access to the internets. Change your DNS settings with OpenDNS. Or use googles DNS servers... we could go on...
But don't forget that we can't allow this shit to happen. Next time they're coming for something else. And yes, there will be a next time if we don't stop them. Write to your ISP and tell them to appeal the case. Write to your local MPs and tell them that this is not allowed. Make sure your voice is heard. Remember, we're all the pirate bay, and we must stand united against the censorship from our opponents!
I don't see a point in this, as people have said it can be got around easily plus, they can't block proxies, so they'll have to put up with us being able to get to it either way.
Well, it's just UK. It doesn't affect me at all <3
But I feel bad for UK :c
//Anyways using other hosts to download files c:
it doesnt matter its just the UK. day by day it happens step by step. they want a full censored www, like the damn TV, that is just filled out with content to think on stuff they want we do.
damn how i hate this corrupt system -.-
Already installed plugin that allows you freely connect to pirates =]
Pirate Bay Sees Traffic Increase by 12 Million After UK Block
Discourage people? Far from it - TPB received 12 million more visitors after the news was televised. So far so failed.
It could be a strategy to put this block out and let it fail on purpose to get backing for more control of the internet in the future
As for governments becoming corrupt, it would be more accurate to say they have been for thousands of years
if you need a tpb proxy feel free to use mine: Download music, movies, games, software! The Pirate Bay - The galaxy's most resilient BitTorrent site
I made. The moment the tpb got blocked by my provider.
I've recently made it public ever since I made it public I have an increase of 30k page views a day on my website. The amount of people looking on the proxy is increasing every day.
It's just stopid that they'll think this is going to work.
I haven't seen a message from "BREIN" to stop hosting my proxy. Like many other proxies I have seen.
Recently I've been in touch with a few people that work for "BREIN" aka the company that all started this and they believe the block is not going to hold out any longer. They are also implying that what I do isn't wrong by any means and is legal for that matter (in the Netherlands). They are only getting at proxies due to the fact that it's destroying their courtrulings which is about illegal as helping a prisoner escape from jail. They also made clear that going after the proxies is useless due to the fact that people from all over the world are helping with this. So from my conversation with "BREIN". I'm going to continue with hosting the proxy until I get letter from "BREIN" or anything else saying I have to stop hosting the proxy. There is also the FuckTimKuik.org site which is a proxy generator that sends you to random tpb proxies.
If there is any question for me or anything related to the proxies or anything related to "BREIN" feel free to contact me by sending me a Private Message or by leaving a Visitors Message.
So they are trying to ban porn here int he UK too now to make it "opt-in" only.

^^ use and be free (tpb proxies)
If this was done by the courts, of course it's a fail.
It won't just be the UK, it will spread throughout the EU soon enough.
Today is the day my ISP orange got round to "blocking" the pirate bay. I guess it's https://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/ instead of thepiratebay.org then lol
Props to you genyaa for hosting the proxy :D I just got directed to yours via fucktimkuik.org!
Not significant, at all. Really.
I use a proxy most of my browsing time, just for security and private reasons. So why can't someone looking to bypass a blocked website, not use one? Its as simple as going to whateverproxy.lul, high court didn't really think it through. If they are going to do something about the copyright infrigment all over the internet, take down some torrent sites and stir the bag a bit. Pointless propoganda.
As far as I know ISP's can see through your Proxy , after all , you are connected to THEIR router. The fact that they don't do anything about it , it doesn't mean you are completely invisible.
TPB is already blocked on some internet providers in Finland and i'm actually using one of those providers that are blocking it...
Well there is alot ways to get round it, so it doesn't really matter ^^
I think goverments want to see their official websites to shut down. People will never stop to find what they want. Neelie Kroes said that ACTA can not continue in Europe but we need to wait until July.
Even if it was blocked, I'm sure theres many other sites that you can get torrents from, another epic fail on behalf of the British Government
Anonymous has a good cgi script which you can visit anything, works better than a proxy !
Also, if your government shuts down your internet, stay calm and shut down your government :d
