The best way to keep your files safe would be a custom file system, but eh,
you aren't going to find a tut for that here.
Hint: Anything is by passable if someone puts enough effort in =P.
What wucas said, and its also a good idea to have checks server side aswell.

First off you should make a unique encryption method, best would be to change the gunz mrs encryption completely and possibly make your own file system. Then you have to protect your encryption method from curious eyes, that's where binary encryptors/packers could come handy, but I wouldn't suggest using any cracked versions of them, since your binaries will most likely be falsely detected as viruses if you use a cracked version without the customizing options and up-to-date functions to make your encryption/packing unique. All in all protecting your files completely from being unpacked is impossible, however I don't see many people in the Gunz community who would be able to unpack the latest themida and figuring out a new file system. Detecting and blocking data file edits is, however, easy to do and doesn't require much more than a hash check that communicates with the server and it's not even necessary to make it communicate with the server to do such checks. Just keep in mind if anyone really wants to unpack/decrypt/edit your files they will do so if they have sufficient skills to do so, but it is definitely not useless to protect your files or do anything that could improve the security of your client and/or server is worth doing, unless you're at a great loss in the performance/security exchange. You shouldn't use published ways of adding security, especially not the encrypters, because those are most likely already figured out there's a much higher chance that your files will be decrypted.
