GTA IV, Skyrim, Terraria, ( Not Diablo 3,storyline is terrible and everything repeats it self) You just missed out on steam summer sale btw :c

FPS: Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare or Half Life 2 or Darkness 2
RPG: Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning or Skyrim
MMORPG: Tera or The Secret World
Horror/Survival: The Walking Dead or Amnesia
RTS: Starcraft 2 or Age Of Empire 3
Assassin's Creed all the way <3

There is lot i have played
FPS: CS , HL2 , Garry MOD , CSS , CSGO and Pointblank an MMOFPS game .
RPG: Skyrim .
MMORPG: Diablo 3 , Guild Wars 2 and Tera.
Horror/Survival: The Walking Dead, Amnesia , left for dead 2 , lollipop chainsaw ,dead island and resident evil 5 .
RTS: Starcraft 2 , Age Of Empire 3 , Red alert all collection i just love it .

I'd have to go with... Half-Life
HL1 has been played for well over a decade with countless mods for it, such as Counter-Strike, Natural Selection, etc.
Follow up, Half-Life 2 was equally great with a LOT of Mods for it.
Counter strike is pretty good if you like FPS. If you want realism, BF3. GTA IV is also great, I've played that a lot.

If you really want to find some good games, search games lists online, and visit video game stores, especially those who do trade-ins and have plenty of second-hand games.
Game I had the most fun with was ff8, loved the school aspect of it.
Its impossible to really pick a best PC game because each genre is different. You can't compare ff8 to Morrowind, or GTA4 to WC3. All are amazing games but just aren't comparable.

If you can't find a download of the full game, you can easily find it 2nd hand or any store that specializes with old 'retro' games, check out SoldOut video games and maybe also CeX (Computer Exchange).

Hmm... Honestly how can you pick? Times change and so does your opinions. Everything that was great is no longer great. In the past CS was simply amazing, consuming enormous amounts of my time but it was eventually replaced with BF2 and now it's ultimately BF3 with many different games in the middle. And the same can be said for any genre, there's always something better that comes along and changes your opinion. That's gaming as a hole, and if it didn't happen that way then they fail.
