Well my camera's pretty old but I thought I test it out by shooting a wasps nest on a corner of the house I live in. :O I was at least 15 feet away (15 would be the length hypotenuse, not ground to the wall, to the wasp nest)
It's a kodak Easyshare dX7590 and the picture...well see for yourself O_o;
(it's not a huge wasp nest, but never really seen one before :P)

okay here's zoomed out (really far O_o; ) pic and this was taken at night, which is why it's so far away from the nest

it might be fake. You can cleary see an outline of the nest, there is no depth. And the colour, and darkness of the hex sacs are all saturated, and grey looking. Basically I see a picture that was already compressed, then added to a photograph, then recompressed into a new image, which gives this type of result. The Only way I can believe it is if you shined some light on it, then took a picture.

well at least I know one thing, this camera kicks as xD
Yes, I understand how akward it looks, but it's a real wasp nest on the corner of the house I live in (I've seen so many IN the house it's funny to see them outside :P) the bottom picute was taken at about 10 PM and the flash was on (or it'd look shit dark) and the first one had to be zoomed in REALLY far (in which the digital zoom took over :( ) which is probably why it look less realistic :O
and like I said it's really small, I've just never seen one before like that (I've seen a GI-FRIGGIN-nourmous bee nest but not a wasp)

seriously I'm really far away from this thing (from the window down there's at least 8-9 feet left and I'm standing at least 15 feet away from the window)

the picture size is saved to 1024x768 when zoomed in to its max, BUT as I zoom out, the picture res is bigger O_o; I wish I could check it, but my parents are goen with it
