Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
Well.. I had a 12 session trial at the gym my father belongs to.
I've met with someone there, they are very goal-orientated.
I've been seriously considering Gastric Bypass surgery. I've struggled with my weight since I was very young.
When I was young, I never went outside to play with other kids... I always sat inside at home... I didn't really get out much.
These habits continued to adulthood. Now, being 21, I was at 400 pounds. I'm down to roughly 390 now.
During the first 12 sessions, I lost a lot of water weight, totaling 12 pounds (in about a week or two).
I've joined the gym today, and on Monday I'm working with someone who does fitness / health assessments.
I've decided to cancel the gastric bypass surgery plans, and appointments with the doctors at the obesity clinic, and do it naturally.
Rather than going through that, and the problems with complications and the major lifestyle change, I have elected to go to work out instead.
I'll be paying for a training session either every week, or every other week. I need to find out how it goes after the assessment, and see if they have any specials going for recurring sessions...
The trainer will work with me in telling me what exercises to do, and what to eat... and do strength/ability assessments regularly so I know what to do when I go in.
A big reason why I am electing to do this instead is that I take medication for anxiety and depression. I also take a medication that's used as a last resort for severe bipolar and schizoaffectve/schizophrenia, called Clozaril, amongst others. The problem my doctor is thinking about is that several of the medications he has me on will be metabolized differently after gastric bypass, and is concerned that the medications won't work like they are now, which is major, as I've gone in-patient several times now for medication changes.
In the long run, it will also be cheaper to pay for training sessions than the co-pay of having surgery.
I've tried many times now and have failed, but I feel committed now. I think that having regular training sessions will also be a motivator.
Has anyone else struggled in something of this nature?
Re: Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
Friend of mine has just recently has the bypass operation. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone due to the inherent risks it poses.
Set yourself a goal - 2lbs a week loss and in 2 years you'll be a healthy 200lb guy.
Best of luck to you dude.
Re: Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
Try it the healthy and natural way first, the self satisfaction you get each time you weigh and the is weight is coming off will give you more and more motivation, it will take a long time but it will be worth it in the end, keep at it and good luck. Just think of all the other people you will inspire too with your amazing results.

Training != weight loss
good diet = weight loss
It works(simplified) this way, your body burns say 1300 calories a day, if you take a 5 kilometer run, you can burn additional 350 calories.. OR you could not drink that bottle of coke, or eat a chocolate, or a big mac. Got it?
Your body won't see any difference.
Training is good for keeping or forming your muscle, but it shouldn't be your primary weight loss tool.
I took this diet, https://www.facebook.com/the12weekchallenge became friends with the guy, he taught me alot. It's not cheap(around 500 bucks), but it works, there are no pills no shit, just a healthy diet.
You get a diet crafted specificaly for you, training program and guidance thru the whole thing as well.
All it requires a little bit of dedication.
Look at Anthony here, 10kgs in 6 weeks(it's not healthy to lose more than 2kg a week anyway). All real(you can find myself in the gallery as well :P )

Re: Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
Thanks for the support.
I will be working with a trainer / nutritionist... I was told to aim for 2 pounds a week.
Anyway... yeah...
Re: Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
I've got a good friend that does body building and lots of training, and a great way to lose weight is cutting certain things out of your diet. He usually bulks up, then cuts weight to have a more defined "tone" look, and the best way is to basically cut out red meats from his diet, and eating lots of salads and drinking "coconut water". Now, I don't know if the circumstances are the same.. but these guys have a point.
You'll want to set a goal, and if you're serious about this, you want to keep that goal in your mind and never give it up.
Re: Exercise / Weight Loss Thoughts
Show the tiny bitches at the gym how a real man works out! Half the guys you see there dressed up all trendy don't know shit about how to train and hardly break a sweat. Push through the stage where you want to quit and until it's your muscles that fail! Do that and afterwards the reward of ecstatic feeling in your body and a sense of achievement for job well done will be yours! Every single time! I do look forward to results over a long period of time but it's not my main reason for hitting the gym anymore... it's about getting to punish myself for all the wrongs I did since the last time I went there.
I have two thumbs up for you here. Usually I don't care about this stuff but something tells me you're going to make it. :8:

Congrats on taking the first step towards a better life man. Honestly, its tough to go through all this sort of shit.
If you want any advice, feel free to hit me up on skype. Just pm me here for my username. I've done quite a lot of reading into weight loss / muscle building over the past several months and learned quite a lot. There is truly a ridiculous amount of information that you need to absorb. :p

What's his leg in the third picture doing? Does he have to get surgery on his leg because he was overweight which was detrimental to his leg?
