This is a review I wrote and posted on another forum and I decided to share it here. Enjoy!
FIFA 13 Review by Hayden
This is my first review of any kind, so any constructive criticism and feedback is highly appreciated.
13 was released in September of 2012 with the demo being released to the public just a few weeks earlier. It is a highly popular football game which gives you the best football experience through a game out there.
I’m going to be focusing primarily on game modes and features rather then actual gameplay itself, although I will leave a bit of feedback regarding gameplay.
Firstly let me say, the game is 10 times better and you’ll have a LOT more features if you have an internet connection.
GAMEPLAY/GENERAL INFORMATION.
Gameplay is pretty good in my opinion. You can no longer slam passes to your team mates or the ball will bounce off their feet really hard and you will lose posession, like you could in FIFA 12. There is new dribbling in FIFA 13 and you have a lot more control/skills. Prior to the game starting, there are new skill challenges which you can complete while the games loading. It’s a really nice addition as it gives you something to do while you’re waiting for your game to start.
You can play pretty much any team in any league that you can think of. You can also play as most of the big International teams. You can also play as the World XI team, Classic XI and Adidas All-Star Team, all of which can be found under ‘rest of world’ when selecting a team. Sometimes the World XI team gets glitched and you need to sign out of XBOX live to see it.
There are a lot of stadiums featuring some of the best in the world, including the Juventus Stadium, Stamford Bridge, Stadium of Light, Etihad Stadium, Old Trafford and much more!
You can also play the loading-screen skill games from the main screen. You select a skill game that you’d like to play and try to complete the games. Some examples are as follows: Lob passes in bins, shooting penalties under/over brick walls, passing under/over brick walls, dribbling around cones.
EAS FC MATCH DAY
https://help.ea.com/servlet/rtaImage...EME0000000PHPi
Match day is just your basic friendly match against the AI. When picking a team, you get to see the players forms in real life and how that team is doing in their current league. It shows the teams top scorers, injuries/suspensions, players on international duties etc. Players who are in-form in real life will play better and have better stats in the game and players who are out of form won’t play as well. If you have match day set to on, commentary and headlines will be based on real life. Match day requires an internet connection. You can set match day on or off.
You have an option to play the top 5 world-class games from the week. Any injured/suspended players will not be able to be used during these games. If you decide to play live fixtures, when you chose a team it will give you the ability to play one of the teams 4 upcoming matches in real life.
SEASONS
Seasons is a pretty nice online gamemode of FIFA 13. Personally, I don’t play the gamemode often, as whenever I want to play online, I play/use Ultimate Team.
There are 10 divisions and you start in division 10 and work your way up to division 10. There are ‘seasons’ where you play 10 games and try and earn enough points for the division title and/or promotion. The amount of points needed for promotion depends on which division you’re in. You gain 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. You also have an overall record.
There are leaderboards which you can view and check out some of the top players in the world. Seasons is a pretty simple gamemode, so there isn’t much more for me to say.
CAREER
http://imageshack.us/a/img819/9789/f...yplayercar.jpg
Career is a great gamemode. You start off chosing either a manager career or a player career. This gamemode is completely offline and requires no internet connection so you can play it whenever.
Player career
In player career, you begin as a young teen footballer with pretty poor stats. You get to chose your players looks, name, information, height/weight etc. You can chose any club to play for, but you’ll probably be sent on loan to a smaller club as your player isn’t good enough for big clubs.
You earn stats as you play games. There are small tasks that you need to complete to increase your stats, such as score 5 goals, have 20 shots on target, make 5 sliding tackles etc. The tasks get harder and harder as you progress. As you complete tasks you will earn added stats, increasing your overall rating. Once you get a better overall rating and get your name out a bit, bigger clubs will offer you contracts.
You can also use any current professional player if you wish and progress with them, but from personal experience it’s much more fun creating your own player.
Manager career
In the manager career mode, you pick any club you wish to be the manager of and create your manager, giving him a name etc.
Your role is to manage your team by picking the best squads, formations and tactics for upcoming matches. You have a transfer budget and depending on the size/wealth of your club will decide how many money you have, meaning the ability to buy better players. You can either chose a big club such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona (3 highest transfer budgets as far as I know) or chose a lower-league team and try build them into a great world-class team.
PRO CLUBS
Pro clubs is similar to a player career. You have your own pro and play as only your player in matches with friends. In pro clubs you will need at least 1 other player to be able to play. You have a team and verse other teams, each player only controlling their player. You can also play in drop-in matches, filling in for other teams and playing with randoms using your pro.
You get to edit your pro, give him a name, a position (you changed your position before the start of a match), height/weight etc. As you progress and get more goals, slide tackles, passes etc. you will gain overall stats just like the player career mode.
ULTIMATE TEAM
Ultimate Team (FUT) is the most popular game mode in FIFA and is by far the best.
You have a club of your own and squads within the club. You start off with a free bronze starter pack, which builds you an OKAY team and gives you a badge and kit.which is enough to get started. As you play more games you will earn coins. Coins can be used to buy players, kits, balls, stadiums, contracts etc.
You get to chose your club badge, home and away kits, the stadium that you use in home games, the ball that’s used in home games, your squad name, the formation of your squad and much more. You can pretty much get any squad, kit, badge etc. that you want if you have enough coins.
You have online tournaments which you can compete in and try to earn some coins and trophies by beating other players squads. You also have offline tournaments in which you compete against the AI and try to earn trophies and coins. There are also small seasons, just like the seasons game-mode in which you are in a division and have 10 games to get enough points to progress to the first division. There is an offline season and an online season. In addition, you can invite your friends to games and verse their squads. When you are promoted you get a certain amount of coins depending on which division you are in. You get a small amount of coins after every game you play also.
When you play games, your players fitness will be dropping as well as their contracts. You will need to buy contracts by trading with other players by visiting the trade center. You will also need to buy fitness cards as your players will get injured if their fitness isn’t kept high. If a player does get injured, you can buy healing cards from other players the same way as you buy contracts etc. This will allow your player to play again instantly. If you don’t mind sitting your player out a few games and don’t want to buy healing cards, you can simply put that player in the reserves until his injury is over.
Every week there is a team of the week. This team is full of the best players over the past week. Any player who gets into a team of the week is granted an in-form (IF) card. IF cards are black. You can challenge the team of the week and set the difficulty. The higher the difficulty, the more coins you will earn for beating them. You can play the team of the week as many times as you like, but you will only earn coins the first time.
When building a squad, you need to make sure your players have good chemistry. To gain chemistry, they need to be either the same nationality, the same league or team . You also need to make sure you put players in the right positions or this will decrease chemistry.
You can access your UT on the computer as well by visiting the web-app http://www.ea.com/intl/football/fifa-ultimate-team. If you want to know how much to buy/sell players for and read reviews on players, then visit www.futhead.com and simply search for your desired player.
I’ve been typing for way too long now, so that’s it. I’d recommend everyone to try FIFA 13 as it is a great game. I’d rate it 9.5/10. You can get it for around $70.
Thanks for reading.
