Re: gaming pc advice
I duns any UK stores, link places you'll buy from & I'll pick out parts from there. Also that £500 including any peripherals like monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse or just using your existing ones?
Got a general build which SHOULD be within your price range, but yea like i said without knowing where you're buying from it may convert to alot more over there:
Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1 GHz Base, 3.3 GHz Turbo Boost $185
ASRock Z75 Pro3: LGA 1155, Intel Z75 Express $85
G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3-1600 $35
Ati Radeon HD 7850 1 GB $165
Seagate Barracuda 500 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s $65
All that comes to ~$530 USD, still required PSU + Case (+ Optical drive if you need it) but those are really based on what you have available in your area and what case tickles your fancy. But yea that should be a pretty decent build and SHOULD come under-budget.
CPU is an Ivy Bridge but the 'P' model is without an integrated GPU, which is perfectly fine because you won't be needing or using it. Saves some cash but you get top performance.

Re: gaming pc advice
Yea man that build will do her just fine, you have no need for an SSD and you don't want a 1TB main drive so 500GB is a good size. GPU will handle anything at medium settings at least, and the quad-core i5 will do you fine for the next few years.
Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1 GHz Base, 3.3 GHz Turbo Boost $185
ASRock Z75 Pro3: LGA 1155, Intel Z75 Express $85
G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3-1600 $35
Ati Radeon HD 7850 1 GB $165
Seagate Barracuda 500 GB, 7,200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s $65
+ decent brand PSU 600W
+ whatever case tickles your fancy
+ optical drive or just take it out of your current PC as long as it's SATA
Should be right smack within your price range IMHO.
