(il)legal?

I am curious to see whether this is legal, it may sound stupid but I have heard so many different things I just want a clear answer.

Are the servers files legal?
Are client modifications legal?

You are using server files written and copywrited by the original owner. So no, having server files is not legal but in the case of perfect world, the chances of them doing anything about it are slim.

As for client modifications, I can't see how modifying it would be illegal. Unless of course you modify it and try and pass it off as your own.

Modifying the client violates the official servers EULA, but its not illegal.

Having the server files is legal unless you personally were involved in illegal activities to obtain them, and there is proof of this.
However making a public server from them with intent to profit or gain popularity from the general public is illegal.

... And on top of all if still concerned I would just recommend consulting an attorney both wherever you reside, and wherever the server resides :wink:

I always thought it was illegal to actually have the server files as well as they were not intended for public use. Oh well, learn something new everyday lol.

I never release anything :p

It's there because a friend suggested it since I refuse to blatantly charge for anything I do/release... I actually kinda like the idea, so I implemented it. I will continue doing whatever it is I do, but for anyone that feels they really like anything I release (whether it be my "complete package" or not) they can feel free to send any donations they so desire to, my way :wink: :): :D:
