[ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
Hi guys! Decided that for the first time in its history I'm gonna publicly ask for feedback, both positive and negative, on the RZ awards. I'd like to know what people think about how it's run, when the awards open, the categories, how votes are counted, how you vote and anything else you can nit pick at with regards to the awards. Voting was down this year and I feel not enough people from the dev sections were tempted to come out of their shells and vote.
So aye, what's good about the awards and what needs changed?

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
What needs to be changed: Instead of having a thread to vote, why not have a dedicated website so people can't just copy other people's votes.

Might return into scripting the site.
Well maybe there is a way to hide other peoples post in the thread and only viewable to the thread creator / moderators. That would prevent people from copying it and people are not able to script so they gain many votes :)

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
Something I noticed, and am noticing again with the current Christmas competitions, is that certain people stick to their section only, and see no reason to contribute or whatsoever. Hence you will only get a handfull of people who vote. There should be a way to make people want to join in. Motivate other sections to also contribute in for example Evolution.
This isn't only a problem for the awards though, but it surely DOES affect it.
-
Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
Certainly does affect it, it's so hard to tempt those in the dev sections out. And Jordan, an external site is prone to being abused. Not to mention it is a bit of legwork to prepare everything and secure it.

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
Well, you're asking for feedback in the same place that no one really came to in order to vote in the first place.
Maybe this isn't the place for it? I don't know you want to draw people out of the dev sections but you also want them to not just vote for everyone in their section - difficult task.
I think the larger issue is the outerworlds lack of activity overall - bringing more people here to be active and the activity will go up. I'm really not sure how to do that tbh.
I still feel that a Legends area has a chance of bringing some of them back more often to check on one another. I have noticed when a Legend posts, it seems to create a small flurry of activity. So that might help.
Another thing is this section is intimidating, people aren't always nice to newbies (although not as bad as spamzilla) Most people are 'chatting' in spamzilla, but if we could bring just a little of that activity here, I think it would benefit the whole community. Although, there would need to be decent topics posted.
Maybe we've sectioned ourselves off too much - if you want to post music - oh that goes in a different area , or if you want to post a debate - or a funny video-.. you see? so what exactly should be posted in outerworld? Relationship advice questions?

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
I agree with Madison, we are all elitist assholes here in the Outerworld. Because we've been here so long and pretty much seen every type of noob out there...we can now spot them and eliminate on sight.

Pretty much. Robo-Cop is auto-enabled. Eliminate all noob threats on sight.
I don't think there's a problem with people seeing each-other's votes at all. I look through previous votes sometimes if i forget someones name or sometimes i see someone i had previously forgotten. I think it would be really pathetic for someone to actually change their vote simply based on a vote someone else has cast, and I really don't see any reason why anyone would do that here.
I mean there's no reason why anyone would to it maliciously, of course. There's definitely been instances when I've written someone's name down then read someone elses vote and instantly thought "haha yes i remember that fucker, he's definitely a bigger faggot!" so in those instances i would change my vote. But i mean why would anyone do it for the purposes of swaying the vote? It's not like they really mean THAT much.
I vote every year simply to let people know what i think of them :)

There is the ability to connect one website with the forums Database, letting people log in onto the site - checking that they have got x amount of posts etc.
but yeah generally it would take a little time for a PHP guy to do it. (cough) ron (cough)

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
There's no real motive for anyone in the DEV sections to come out and vote. These awards, whether we like it or not, are for the EVO sections and the people that have been around. No one new really gets voted for anything unless it is for Best Newbie. So what motivation does anyone from the DEV sections have to vote? They know they're not going to win, nor anyone from their section. The same few people win the awards every year.

To win you need votes, to get voted for you need to be known. That's the motivation. We're not asking for them to come out of the woodwork once a year to vote, we're asking them to actively join the Evo community.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was trying to say, the problem has nothing to do with votes at all - but the number of people active in Evo.

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
Should rather be "Outerworld Awards", I don't see any dev section people in the winning list, just the regular bunch of the noobs who chit chat around outerworld/spamzilla
Instead, we should have sectional award system if so the mods of the section wish... that would probably work better. It also allows them to have specific awards rather than generic ones
I personally did not participate because I wasn't on enough to determine who I would nominate for which

That's never going to happen though. People that come out of the DEV section always get talked down upon.

We used to have them in the Habbo section though nobody cares now.

Not all of them. Just he morons. Which to be honest is 95% of them. Which is the main problem. They're either too moronic to assimilate into society so they stay in Dev or so moronic we don't want them when they finally do venture out. But every now & then we do get a mature Devtard who joins us and eventually becomes a permanent resident.
They just need to understand that the dynamics in a discussion section are completely different then those in a Dev section, they simply seem incapable of grasping that simple concept hence the hostility.

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
It seems like the same people get voted for the same awards and it seems like people vote for their 'friends'. I don't know how these can change so more users can have a chance.

How exactly will others get more of a "chance" when they don't try?
Junkers is easily the most popular one around here, hence he won.
LordDemonMan is hilarious and wins funniest user almost every year.
Exclamatio is the greatest legend.
And i am easily the nerdiest one around here other than NoPeace who isn't active anymore.
We didn't simply win these awards for no reason, they accurately represent our roles here. If newcomers want to win these, they need to pro-actively put themselves out there and actually SHOW US that that you're funnier than LordDemonMan and you may end up being the most popular one here. Look at the votes - people who won didn't get hundreds or thousands of votes, they each had a handful which is really not that hard to beat at all if you actually have people on this forum who know you.

Re: [ RaGEZONE Awards - Feedback ]
The problem isn't this "Dev Section vs Non-Gaming Sections" mentality, nor the people who are within those sections, it is the overall usability that causes this.
The sections are simply too seperate, whether by attitude, content (or lack of it), or who uses the off topic sections, maybe there is even some functionality involved in this. If you really wish to fix not only the RaGEZONE Award system but the Outerworld section's content as well, you have to build a bridge so it is easier for people to come out of their exclusive sections.
Do I know what the solution is? No, but at least I see the underlying issue.

Probably. And also, your activity, I've been inactive for a couple of years now and slowly getting involved again. I haven't seen my better half DaCheat anywhere, but for those that weren't either in the Music Section or actually played RZ Server Games with us, then you won't know me at all.
On another note, a lot of members are still teens whereas the older members and more known, are well into our twenties and in some cases thirties. So good luck competing with that.

Kurtis pops in from time to time with his blue name, but for the most part he's gone unfortunately. I think I was just getting into the evo sections when you were near your mod resigning, but still good to see you and hope you've been well.

Yeah messaged him on FB. I'm trying to get him to play ESO when it comes out. But otherwise, I've been well. Moved around a couple of times here in North Texas. Currently finishing my degree at UNT. I still see some people are active as always like RIsh and Flameing. I was surprised to see Josh still posting. I really want to know what happened to Vendaku...I PMed him about his overwhelming gayness but he hasn't responded. :(

Ah can't wait to play ESO with everyone here. Hopefully Kurtis pops his head in to play. Sounds like you've been good man. Travis has been active the past couple weeks I believe, mostly in Spamzilla, or formerly Spamzilla. He's been helping out with the RZ Just Cause 2 server I believe.
