BBC says $19bn, still a pretty big purchase! Will be interesting to see what they do with WhatsApp, could have it running standard on any new 'Facebook phones'
I saw think on Facebook earlier. As long as facebook does keep whatsapp separate, I do think it is going to be a good benefit to both sides. As soon as they start integrating I think its gonna go to poo.
It would be cool if someone on staff leak the source of WPP xD.
Billions of 16 to make a whatsapp with another name, WhatsUp kkkk
Personally I think people will be assraping FB soon, as soon as the buy is finalized, lots of people will ditch Whatsapp, costing FB billions.
Definitely not going to happen.
Facebook lives on ads and why buy a popular app to not do anything with it?
I think whatsapp will be flooded with ads and facebook-forces (login, fbmessenger, etc) in no time.
Also, I'm not quite sure if I trust facebook with my phonenumber.
But whatever, if what I stated happens everyone will move to a new system anyway, leaving facebook with something nobody uses anymore.
You do realize that Whatsapp been gathering data for years and selling it to companies that want information on what's popular etc.
What is there to trust? When companies have in their privacy statement and terms of agreement what they can and can't do, than that's all you need to trust. So the only difference is that FB has now more data to sell and will be able to use the data for 'free' on all of their services. Still I doubt they will introduce advertisements, it would definitely insta-kill Whatsapp.
Myea okay.
Though, how will they make money on whatsapp if they do not introduce advertisements?
And believe me, they will try to make money.
Raising the cost per year will be insta-kill too btw.
I am scared of the performance of the application
I am almost 100% sure that they are going to integrate facebook chat,
but they are known for bad performance apps lol, too big and heavy.
Facebook are idiots when it comes to smart-phone development.
but who am I to say, I only freelance for myself though.
Im glad Im not a user in any of that app.
It's actually pretty popular here. Everyone, literally everyone uses it.
I don't know if its popular in my location but I just don't use any of them , or i just don't care lol
Facebook has already said they won't change what we know, but of course they will slip in stuff. The purchasing is the same, the free year sub (android, idk if apple has) will remain and no "advertisements".
I just hope they don't require a fucking facebook login to use it. I detest facebook, shitty website and it should be destroyed.
Facebook wasted $19 Billion USD to buy WhatsApp, they could've just downloaded for free!
Joke, it's just a funny MEME going around facebook.
Facebook paid 16bill for the app?, and I downloaded it for free from the app store.
Seriously, how are people finding this joke funny?
Well you answered your question with the beginning of your sentence, Serious Saiyan.
On Android, the one year free sub keeps getting extended every time. I had mine since 2012 or even earlier, and now it's for free untill 2016 (note: on Android, not sure how it is on iPhone). I'm sure things like that will change.
Anyways, a lot of people have been moving to Telegram Messenger when the news was announced, and even more people moved last saturday when the WhatsApp servers went down. Telegram keeps growing and growing at the moment, and it's slowely replacing WhatsApp as most people don't like the idea of Facebook buying WhatsApp, and others just follow the mass.
Got to say, I love Telegram. It's fast, looks almost exactly the same, and has some nice extra features.
must try telegram fck whatsapp i think vibrr is good aswell.
I stopped using whatsapp when I upgraded my phone and was able to actually text people. I only use whatsapp to send images to people now. I only used it today when someone messaged me for the first time in like a week.
As long as facebook dnt start posting their "adds" im fine with it.. however i did pay £1.99 for my whatsapps for iPhone.... so better stay that way or i will be bitching about it...
I do love Whatsapp tho so i can txt peeps from other countries! which is freaking awesome!
I have so many friends from Canada and the Us where i used to live now i have peeps from The Netherlands, and Germany, hell even Egypt.. awesome stuff
(CNN) -- Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, speaking to mobile tech leaders in Barcelona, said WhatsApp, the mobile messaging app purchased by the social media giant last week, was "worth more than $19 billion."
