Hello!

As we don't have a thread for League of Legends yet, this seems like a good fun thread to discuss or talk about anything LoL related. From ranked scores, to patches, questions, everything!

Currently playing Ranked myself, just trying out some new champions and focusing on getting up my farm! Started botlane, then carried mid a lot of games as Akali, now going to top! Trying out Renekton. (http://www.lolking.net/summoner/euw/37679469#matches) Hope to reach Gold at the end of the week! Currently Silver 3.

Im a LoL NA player! I play ranked/Norms by myself tho... I have unreliable connection, so I dont want people I know to lose because of me. Even if my connection(90-200 ping; when other people stream youtube on their ipad or other devices: 300-800) was great, I'm such a bad player :\ Also play on a Laptop with a Pentium processor (8-20 fps) If i would rate myself on a scale of 10, id be a 5.

Heres my LoL Resume/Rating of how good I am in these areas:

- Top: Riven, Wukong, Shyvana, etc (6/10)
- Mid: Fizz, Mordekaiser, Riven, etc (6/10)
- Support: Riven, Blitzcrank, Gankplank, etc (7/10)
- ADC: Graves, Miss Fortune, Ezreal, etc (1/10)
- Jungle: Riven, Wukong, Shaco, etc (8/10)

As you can see, I love Riven. Its not that Im the best Riven, I just love her playstyle (bunny hop). I tend to get in trouble alot when Im being aggressive, which makes me do bad in alot of games. My farming needs alot of work (I clearly cant ADC). I have those moments tho, where I get fed hard.

Seeing the champions you play, I highly advice you to try some other champions. Mentioning you aren't to good in being agressive, try some champions like Renekton, Vi or Malphite on top/jungle. Build tanky, because those champions can put high amounts of damage whilest being tanky.Also, Riven & Gangplank aren't really good support champions, and people will often classify you as a troll. Try something like Leona or Thresh, a lot of crowd control and helpfull champions in dangerous situations.

i agree that riven isnt a good support, but, for some reason I have a high winning ratio as a support than Blitzcrank and the rest. Ill try malph and renek this week. Ive played Vi and liked her style of play, but Im just soo use to Riven... need to ban her off my champion list ><

Here are my main champs I play
Support : thresh,taric, blitz,alistar(can't really do the combo right) - Overall I'd consider myself a pretty dam good thresh.
Top : Renekton, Nasus, Mundo, tryndemere, aatrox, darius, singed, cho gath, olaf, jax
Mid : Annie, kha zix,
Adc : caitlyn, vayne, draven
jungle : Hecarim, tryndemere, cho gath, trundle, warwick

My current rank is silver 2 with 21 LP. The only thing that is keeping me back from my true potential is my laptop. I have an FPS drop problem during the game so I would be getting 40fps then it suddenly drops to 3-20 and it stays there.
Other then that I really enjoy the game

And I like to bot mid jungle top. ( Why no support cuz thats not my cup of tea )

I main mid, Zed, Katarina. And I casually AP Tristana ( rocks hard!! )
And I also like to Top with lee sin, and I can jungle with him too.

Lastly for bot, I go ezreal, vayne, caitlyn, varus, and tristana.

Seeing your top/mid champs, you like mechanical champions.

I haven't been updated with the community rumors lately but whose the next hero upcoming again? And what are your opinions with the new hero so far?

I am pretty much of Dota 2 fan but I enjoy League of Legends playing with my friends, game is just awesome and I love that you guys have different maps. The only character I am good with is Aisha (Is that even a name?)

so the latest champ is vel'koz. He is an AP burst champion that destroys anything, if he is protected. The champ, like all other champs, is very op when fed. Usually when a new champ is released, they need a nerf. IMO, he doesnt need one (never played him)

For me Leauge of Legends is harder, you know it is easy when you start with something first. I only played few matches and all of them have been lost, oh well :/

When I can make rampages in Dota 2, I can not even last hit in LoL.

Well Ashe is an ADC and a weak one early on. It is, imo, hard to last hit with her. You should try Miss Fortune and Caitlyn. They have good early games that can help you learn how to farm (CS). Try doing customs, where you are going against only one or no bot. I've heard it helps a player out with their timing when farming.

Let's keep Dota (2) out of this thread, please.

Caitlyn and Miss Fortune are good ADC's, but MF's ult is pretty useless in teamfights, in my opinion. Jinx on the other hand, far one of my fav's as ADC. Sivir is also pretty strong too.

Big champion pool. Oh, I've been around for quite some time. I just change my username very often.
Currently in my promo's for gold. Won 1 and lost 1. Want to finish promo's tonight.

Went in 4 days from Silver 5 to gold.

Having 1687 wins in normal gives us a good champ pool :D I don't really mind losing a normal game I just play normals now a day to try something and practice new stuff.

I've got some of you already but for those that want to add me I only really play on EUw - Loud Spy

I bounced around silver rank all last year, due to traveling so much I only had the chance to play the odd evening and weekend, so it was troll and afk central. This year is much better, I had a few afk's in placements but started in S3, got to S1 now, ready to march on gold!

Nope, but it has been suggested Vel'Koz made Kassadin as he is now.

Just finished the most fun & competitive game on normal blinds. 55 v 56

Am on blue side as J4 jungle. The enemy team got fb on mid,velkoz. They had zed + evlyn .
L8 game They had gotten our 2x Inhibs and we also had their 2x inhibs . After a while we caught them offguard at baron. Jinx with a great "R" got vayne instant. Then I used my combo + my ult on shyvana ( but wasn't able to steal baron ) We just destroyed them, but Thresh remained ( he was a good thresh ) And we went for the nexus to earn the victory. I haven't had this much fun, ever.

Used Team Builder? It came out for a 2 day live beta on EUW today. Shit's funny as hell.

I'm patching atm, gonna try team builder ;D

It will be like 2-3 weeks before it comes out to OCE/NA ( Maybe idk )

Haven't played for months+!
Seems I lost my account info so I'll have to recover, until then smurf time!

All I can say is the plebs I keep getting matched with in team builder have no clue how to play, regardless of any comps.

I noticed the matchmaking is really bad. Levels etc. look like they don't matter anymore. Just check up with LoLNexus when in loading screen/in-game.

The matchmaking for team builder is bugged atm, Riot already knows about it and it's being fixed.

ign: I am the Wizard // B2; Not generally an awful player, I just decided to do rankeds as soon as S3 started and as soon as I got to level 30.... which made my account get B5 MMR :-( + I'm very lazy so I generally don't do ranked much and just randomly play every game mode available :3

Why is everyone always saying they are higher than their actual rank? Maybe you should accept the rank that you are. I'm not saying you never have bad luck, leavers etc, but in general your rank does fit your level.

Though I did not win, but it was fun. I usually don't like mirror matches, but opp vayne was good. Dat lee carried though :P

I just played khazix jungle, I forgot to take smite. It wasn't a disaster but, it sucks without smite.

atm playing:
- Aatrox jungle
- Twitch ADC

Aatrox owns in the jungle but he feels weak in top lane. Trying to get more damage on him, but I never have enough gold, since I have to buy 4 defensive items (tabi boots, spirit, jungle item with tenacity, and that popular randuins). Ofcourse I buy Botrk either as my first or second item.

Why would you need to get 4 defensive items? Why is he weak toplane?

Building your champ is all up to you, yes getting defensive items makes you last, but it doesn't help you kill. And while some champions have lower win ratio's, most of that is due to popular picks that counter that champ.

Aatrox isn't a really good jungle, you should start playing him top and get some offensive items like Hydra etc, Bloodthirster, etc.

Actually Aatrox saw a lot of jungle play among the pro's in season 3, his tower dives were insane because he can jump from the jungle, take tower aggro, kill the enemy together with top laner and if needed, 'die', get passive and walk away while tower has targetted minions again.
Also since Aatrox has massive life steal and fast clearing speed, he definitely does well.
While his popularity has gone down, he's still a viable pick.

Life steal is definitely popular, especially since doing your damage, will drain your health, while you can easily pick up your health again when you get low.

Not saying he's not viable, I'm saying in s4 he is stronger in the loplane, full AD.

Well usually im stuck playing as the tank in every game (since im jungle or top). He does really well taking the damage due to his passive and lifesteal. The only problem with this is that you need items, unlike some other champs who are designed to tank. I'll try getting a hydra after botrk and see how well he does.

And to think I went 8-2 in qualifying matches, but get thrown in silver 5 :(

And I said he's still very much viable. Whether you think he's better top or not was besides the point.

As jungle you can't really get all the AD you want, as you need some tanky items. This really makes his attack weaker and early game less as AD champ.

Eh? Go Spirit of the Elder Lizard and after that Hydra etc.
With that much life steal on Aatrox, there is absolutely no reason at all that you would need defensive items in the jungle.

I play on EUW. I am currently Gold V and not that interested in climbing ATM. I played more than 700+ games only jungle and my fav champs are Udyr, Hecarim and J4. I went 9/10 in my promos only Hecarim. I am decent in other roles and I usually have specific champions for each lane and if I can't play them I just go jungle for example I playing only Jax or Renekton top in ranked. I pick Jax only if Renekton and Garen are banned or not picked because the are hard counters for Jax early game. Mid lane I play Gragas, Diana and brand. Diana got nerfed hard so I didn't pick her this season at all and I don't pick brand if I am going against someone with high mobility such as Fizz, Kassadin or Ahri since they counter brand hard so the only champion I play mid atm is Gragas. My adc isn't that good this season since lack of practice and my support is good.

Aatrox is a heavy Item dependent champion and because of the way he looks people think he is an assassin but he isn't, He is a fighter just like Renekton or any other top laner. You should play Aatrox jungle when you are sure that your lanes don't need that much help only one gank here and there and you should just sit in the jungle get some items and then try to get dragon control. Machete, Spirit stone or any other jungler items are not needed for Aatrox. I started with doran blade and a potion since he has amazing sustain from his W so the jungler item would be useless and his W's lifesteal doubles when he is below 50% hp. Blade of the ruined king should be your first choice and I don't know about hydra but since you don't get that much farm as a laner attack speed and attack damage on one items saves you alot of gold until later on into the game. After you completed your Botrk you should move into tanky items, Spirit Visage is good as it increases the percentage of lifesteal and omen is a good pickup. If they don't have much AP or AD you can delay one of those and rush GA and then grab your self a zephyr and you are ready to wreck their team.

I liked old Xerath, the burst, but now I suck with Xerath. Maybe it will take time to get used to Xerath.

You are absolutely right that he doesn't need it, but with the changes to those jungle items, you would be missing out on a lot of gold by not getting them. It can definitely be a viable choice if you got a strong early game, but if you want to go a bit late game, definitely get that jungle item.

When going a dorans start, you have to look at enemy team jungler, if your are able to duel him then dorans is a good start.
If you want to clear the jungle HARD then go machete x5 pots. But aatrox jungle must rush Ancient Golem or Elder Lizard.

Never go jungler start with Doran's. You need the health pots for more sustain in the jungle in the start.

If you have LS Quints then going dorans helps a ton. Also it gives bit of more damage than the enemy jungler.

Since Aatrox is so item dependent I don't think it is worth it. Aatrox without attack speed is just useless yes his ulti will give him 40% attack speed but you cannot always pop it. If you go spirit of the ancient lizard you will lack attack speed until you can build attack speed item which will be 2 or 3 items later since you have to build tanky items. If you go spirit of the ancient lizard and after it botrk you will get popped faster than your carrys an you are suppose to be the front line.

Aatrox is trash early against all the jungler in this meta. Elise will burst you down like nothing, Vi will one shot you, Lee sin's e will destroy your attack speed unless you go vs fiddle jungle which also has a chance to rape you. Most of the time you will be going around your jungle with low hp so counter jungling is not a thing Aatrox does. If you want to counter jungle pick elise,udyr or lee sin.

I never go hunter's machete on jungle which has sustain like olaf and aatrox, I always go doran's blade.

Being squishy is not a massive problem for a jungler like Aatrox, you don't have to worry about harass and when you come to gank, you can rely on your teammate and your passive to keep you alive. If this is too much to ask from you as a jungle, then yeah go for the really safe route, but going aggressive early game, is quite common among players, including the pro junglers.

If you want some tankiness, go Golem, will give you plenty of good stats including tenacity, so with the massive life steal you will be able to gank with full hp, while getting all of the gold generation.

I'm not saying you need to get it, but there are plenty of choices and they are absolutely viable due to the gold generation on it.

Anyway, I prefer to play bot (usually Supp as either blitz or Soraka - depending on who the ADC is) but I also don't mind playing ADC (Caitlyn - who I find pretty shitty out of laning phase or MF but because she no get-away she's fairly squishy). However, as Jinx is free this week, kinda starting to like her.

I can also play top (normally Voli, Teemo (yes nub) or Garen) but not too keen on any other lane. I go through phases of what lane I prefer and it changes almost every few weeks.

I am playing Xerath, and I am wondering should I go for tear? Because I played without tear last game and I had mana problems ( The passive is not enough )

ProBuilds is way better, as you also have more up-to-date item set (your thread is from april 2013, a lot of changed happened in past year). Though you need to check for situational items.

Didn't pay attention to that, I don't even get why it's still up there when it's a new season and he's been reworked, but meh, item build is still the same.

Probuilds is pretty useless imo, not only does it show lots of support Xeraths, but it doesn't tell you anything about their build path, why they build certain items and what the alternatives are.

You and I might be able to deduct the reasoning behind those choices, but for new players a guide which explains the thought process, is much more important. Among noobs you will easily see a Athene's build first against a Zed mid, simply because a build will show Athene's first. But if you read the guide, you will see that you need to rush a Arm Seeker and depending on how well your lane is going, either get that mana regen or go for an early Zhonya's.

Personally I only check a guide once for each new champ I play, I just want to check if there are any items that just synergies really well on that character, because otherwise I can just do whatever. I know all the items, which needs to be build first etc. This is also why probuilds are completely unimportant to me, I never see anything special coming out of the pro's, well except for Gambit actually, Genja has some interesting builds and also Diamond can really remake a champion by getting the weirdest items, which become normal just a few weeks later, like with Evelynn recently. Darien also does some interesting picks, but that's mostly trolling, like Manamune on Aatrox. ;)

Mobafire is really outdated. Not sure which one it was, I thought when I looked for a Kassadin build on Mobafire the most recent one was from 2012 or something?

Mobafire keeps old guides around, I guess this has to do with the information in it, yes the build paths don't work anymore and all that, but the thought process behind it is still sound in most cases

I did not go for sorcerer shoes because, the enemy team was not building any mag res. My 2nd item was zhonyas ( To not get instagibbed by yasuo ). I went for swift boots because they could catch up easily + the teemo shrooms.
Yea I do use zhonyas :p That's how I outplayed those 2 guys.

I prefer mobafire. I only see the what items are best for X Champ and the skill sequence, then I read the whole guide. So I get to understand the champion better. Knowing what item to build on any champion is easy to learn. But knowing when to build the right item, well that comes from experience.

Even with no MR items, they still have MR, the Sorcerer shoes would have basically made your spells true damage. While I agree you didn't need to go full MP Pen, I would have still went 2 items.

Never forget runes/masteries.

Use LolNexus to check that out etc.

Hi, just wanted to advise people to steer clear of MobaFire. Anyone can write guides on that (like that Xerath guide linked above was by a silver player) and it's hardly the best reference. Also anyone who suggests going lich bane into DFG or something for Kassadin really doesn't get the point of Kassadin at all. Not to mention the Flash Ghost summoners and two defensive items, wtf?
Significantly better guides are on SoloMid and LolPro.

Also yeah, if you are playing an AP mid then you almost always want to go sorc shoes. There are some rare cases where something like merc treads is viable, but mostly you want to itemize for more damage.

The Lich Bane is a temporary items aimed at early game harass, there are some notes about whether or not to pick it up. Considering Kassa is so hard to farm with early game, getting that mid game harass would do wonders. I do actually like the pick up, would work very well with tower pushing as well.
DFG works wonders for killing the enemy ap or adc before they can do anything.
Ghost is great for chasing.
As for his defensive items, Alex Ich (Gambit) build them as well in the LCS.

So what you see here is a solo queue guide, yes in teams your coordination would be better and you wouldn't need these single target bursts really, however we all know how those single queues go, the only 1 you can rely on is yourself. The Ghost also makes sense because of this, easier to escape and since there is very little coordination in solo queue, teleport just doesn't add that much, considering Kassa can already roam very quickly, I agree that Ghost is a viable pick.

In the end solo queue is different from full teams, the match I watched with Alex Ich on Kassa, I saw EDward with a DFG on Annie support. You can do those things if you have a premade proper team.

All arguments here regarding Kassadin/Annie/Lich Bane have all been changed in the 4.4 patch anyways today, lol.

Guides are not something you should copy and paste it is just a rough idea and you have to adapt to the game. I personally go athene's unholy grail when I am going against and AP mid and archangel's staff If against a full ad team and it turns into seraph's embrace when you get it to 750 mana and it is really good against AD team as it has barrier every 120 seconds.

Of course, you can play the game however you want to and build whatever items you want. I am not very good at the game - I was only Plat 1 last season - but I never look up guides anymore. If I ever do need to look at a guide, though, I wouldn't even consider MobaFire. See, MobaFire, like I said above, has guides from random silver players. I already know that I have more knowledge about the game than they do, in terms of objective control, matchups, laning, champions, and mechanics. I would go to LolPro or SoloMid, which has guides by qualified people - professional or high diamond players - who can actually give me the insight and reasoning that got them to where they are.

I'm a Vayne main, and Vayne's offensive itemization is usually extremely one-dimensional. Regardless though, if I didn't know much about Vayne, would I go to ImDooly, a random Gold player's guide on MobaFire, or DontMashMe, a high elo, professional player's guide on LolPro? Like I don't really understand what you are trying to defend here... MobaFire is clearly a sub-optimal choice, and I am just recommending people to use viable and proven sources of information instead of random wildcards.

Anyway, I don't play mid lane much but I'd like to offer some counter arguments to what you are trying to defend... (note this is all pre-rework Kassadin being discussed here)

Lich Bane is pretty viable on Kassadin. I've seen it before, and I guess it fits a very specific niche, but definitely not for the reasons you say (except for the pushing one).
Kassadin has a very weak early game. Your farm will probably be low and you have limited kill potential pre-6. If you are going to purchase Lich Bane, as a "temporary item for harass, because farming is hard," I don't really know what your thought process is. If you have the 3k gold to drop on a random mid game temporary item, then you might as well use it to work towards your Rod of Ages, Archangel's Staff, or Zhonya's, all of which are usually core items on him.
NOT TO MENTION from a gameplay standpoint, the chances of you actually proccing Lich Bane 2-3 times in a teamfight are pretty low, because that's not really how you are supposed to play Kassadin..

Which brings me to my next point.

Kassadin is a mobile champion. Flash is mandatory on most champions, and his ult is a longer-ranged flash on a 5 or so second cooldown with CDR. I don't really know how got you there, but your conclusion that Ghost is a viable second summoner spell doesn't really make sense. You are already more mobile than you need to be (literally the most mobile champion in the game). You don't need the utility - you are mobile and your two core items (Zhonya's and Seraph's Embrace) provide all the utility you need. Ghost literally does not fit in any respect with his gameplay. If you want to roam, bring teleport and pick up random kills (that is what is usually done). If not, then bring ignite for higher potential of cleanup/assassination in fights. If you're against a particularly hard matchup, bring barrier. Ghost literally gives Kassadin nothing. At all.

DFG is highly conditional. It's a high risk low reward item - Kassadin's burst in late game does not warrant needing DFG, and the 3k gold you spend to pick it up can be better put to some random survivability item or another damage item for more sustained damage. I'm not saying it's bad or not viable - like Lich Bane, it can work in some situations. But to recommend it as a core item is just silly because you will probably not need it in most of your games.

Of course, I definitely wouldn't deter anyone from using a fan site - I think it's great that the community takes the time to create content like this. But as a player, I'm just giving the most sound advice.

Like I said, it's based around solo queue where you will be going off alone. Leblanc is extremely popular, yet is only useful sniping single targets etc. It's all about playstyles and how the game is going. If you are skilled enough, then getting Lich Bane early, would help you rift walk in, do some combo's including Lich Bane procs, and the enemy is either dead or needs to back. I'm not saying I would build it, but I can see why someone might, it can definitely give you lane dominance.

See, saying "ghost literally gives kassadin nothing at all", is just someone talking absolute shit, because that's simply not true, it gives you movement speed and allows you to move through minions, now sure this has been added to him now, which does make it fairly useless, but before it was definitely useful. Simple fact is that while Kassadin can move very quickly, this still has a cooldown, costs lots of mana and you pretty much want to use it to damage the enemy, so using ghost will allow you to chase much quicker, hit them with riftwalk and stick on them for your other attacks. In the end meta's are fun and all, but none traditional builds can work, not because they are skilled or lucky or whatever, but because it breaks the meta. Sometimes you just have to do some fun builds and experiment. I agree with this. With your tear sivir, I raise you the AP Lee Sin.
Take Spell Vamp quints, and any other runes are fine, and then take the 3% spellvamp mastery in utility and mostly defense.
Rush gunblade, wota, and spirit visage (any order). Then build full tank.
Take smite and heal.

You have NO damage but you are not playing Lee Sin as a damage dealer here. You are playing him as a bait tank. When you only are laning, you are unkillable like a nunu who maxes q and e. Then when you only have a few items, you initiate, and then smite a minion and heal and your HP goes from 100 to 1000. You make yourself look like a troll, but you are actually doing some interesting things here.

Trying to build more damage early game (no tenacity jungle item, but the ad jungle item). So far its been better. I tried playing with wriggles since they added ad to it; it seems its not the best jungle item, if your not an ad carry.

Tbh, I do. He is not an assasin anymore ( Which is sad ) But he can stick to the targets. Though he has no insane burst, but he is good.
I am playing jungle on him now, Machete 5 pots > Feral Flare > Hydra or Bork > Boots > Mallet ( For the tankiness ) And armor pen.
