How To Make a Maplestory Private Server
v142.2

EDIT (15/06/2014): I am no longer very active so your questions will not be answered by me very often, one tip I have is watch and follow the tutorial very closely.

This video will show you how to set-up a private server on v142 of maplestory. It is commentated by me, I will answer any questions I can, but do not expect a lot as the tutorial is pretty straight forward.

We are using eclipse instead of netbeans, if you want to use netbeans. Go to a v83 tutorial, its the exact same to compile, just change the same files I do.

I suggest you watch it on YouTube in 1080p for best quality, sorry for any profane language (not a lot). Let me know about any error's in the video and I will try and fix them.

To install the JCE 7 Unlimited Strength Files, paste the 3 files into each of these folders:

You should just have them use LegitLisa's localhost cilent. Because, I highly doubt anyone on here is going to go public with that source. Alright tut tho.

Yea thats true, its not fun going public on it. And I never knew about the eclipse thing, thanks for the info. Does it auto save to the same folder or is it some temp folder eclipse makes?

Whatever you do, it just saves it. So, if you type something new, it will instantly save it, I don't compile things myself, I just run, debug it. It's eaiser that way, because of java hotswapping, which will be perfect for a buggy v142 source.

Oh thats sick, never knew it was like that for the jar files as well. I guess ill use it when I start fixing the source after my last final exam for uni. Thanks

If i setup server on vmware and share port game.Can play in public?(connect to my com with port passing to vmware)

There is no localhost any more, we now use something called a redirector. I included them in the links above, installation is in the video. But for a quick overview, place them into your maplestory folder and run them to launch maplestory.

I have no idea about using vmware, but public servers do not work on any newer sources very easily. This is because we cannot login on the main maplestory login screen (if you click login, nothing will happen). If you watch the video, I edited MapleServerHandler.java, here you must edit is so that the people you play have their ip and login pre-set so maplestory will auto log them in.

Change the ip to your (hamachi for example) in the channel.properties
And then use the iRedirectoRX to connect because you can type the ip address in that. But read what I mentioned in post #8 (after second quote)

I'm sure that I closed and disabled the anti virus and the firewall , but the error is still appearing after maplestory launched for awhile.

You cannot access it from another computer, its a localhost tutorial. If you want to access it from another computer its a bit complicated, I'll maybe make a video how to do it if my hamachi works.

If you look at the first pages, I replied to a couple comments explaining how to do it.

For me the cash shop does work, but leaving the cash shop kicks to login screen. Most of the newer builds are very unstable. I'll have to look into the problem later.

Can you open the errors and print screen that.

The first thing that comes to my mind is, did you install the JDK 7? And are you using it. Right click your project (YoutubeMS) in eclipse and go to properties. Then click java build path, print screen that page and also post it here as a screen capture.

ok I actually figured everything out and the launch.bat works now, except that my redirector tools don't actually direct it to my server, like in the server cmd thing it shows me logging in except when I click the play button it says maplestory is out of date and I need the latest client, which I already got it, it says v148, this also happened with the v142 folder

Try running the redirector as administrator, and make sure if you use that one that you start/close connection. You close the connection before you close the redirector. You need to use v142, dont listen to maplestory, v148 is incompatible with this source (its trying to connect to the gms servers). Which you were correct in saying your redirector didnt work. Try both redirectors, and run as administrator (right click, run as admin) and for the redirectoRX thing, the ip would be 127.0.0.1

I've followed your guide here and now I can start the game. While I was creating a character, I clicked OK to proceed but nothing happened. So, I restarted the game and now I'm stuck at the channel selection where it says 'Connecting to Server'. What have I did wrong?

I believe the problem might be that your router firewall is blocking the connection for your channels (also can be windows firewall/antivirus, before trying to port forward. Disable your windows firewall and antivirus to isolate the problem. If it persists, then thats not the problem.

To port forward, its dependent on your router. The channel start port is 8585 and for each channel it increases by 1 (i.e., Channel 1 = 8585, Channel 2 = 8586, Channel 3 = 8587, ...). Since I cannot tell you specifics for your router, use the link provided, find your router and then port forward these ports you are using for channels.

This is the port forward page for 3dx, but just dont port forward those ports, do these ones instead.

When trying to update the game on launcher it redirects me to nexon website and closes the launcher (cant update because too low version) after i opened the server successfully and ran the redirector

**EDIT: nevermind problem solved when ran the other redirector (not the tool)

All ports are open now and I've disabled all firewall/antivirus, but it still didn't work :(

Not sure then, try going to mysql and right clicking your database schema, and click drop schema. Then click the lightning bolt and then follow the steps in the tutorial to re-add it. And try making a character again.

Try port forwarding all the ports you use instead of just the channels, Login port 8484, your channel ports (which show in launch windows when you run server), CS server 8790, and just one more 80.

And if that doesnt work, this is the last thing I can recommend. Try googling Microsoft Loopback adapter and install that. It seemed to help a few people with similar problems.

No problem! Getting a hamachi server is a bit more complicated but should be manageable. Tell your friends to get hamachi, and you create a server and tell everyone to join it.
There should be a IPv4 address, copy it (it will be like something 2x.xxx.xxx.xxx) or something like that. Copy that address into you channel.properties under channel host.
Now in you MapleServerHandler.java file (shown in video), add peoples IP/usernames. The 2 that I commented out in the video are examples. Replace the IP address with theirs and the username as well. Then un-comment it out.
Then use the iRedirectoRX in your maplestory folder to start/launch maplestory. For the IP address, put the hamachi IP address.

I believe this should work although I have not tested it with other people, it works on solo for sure.

Can you up skill or status? when i press button to up skill or status anything no change.

I click the launch.bat and the below appeared. anyone has any idea what I might do to correct this.

I havent really tried it but if your a Admin, your skills will be maxed already. You can use a v117 source which will have more stability. This is not a very good server just for playing.

Make sure your wamp server is online (green and says online when you hover on it).

Well... I'm pretty sure I got the Java thing wrong somewhere eventhou I repeated the whole video again. Another error poped up.
Yes, I got the wampserver to show green and hover over shows me "server Online"

Did you compile the source and put the jar file you compiled into the dist folder? The launcher cannot connect to mysql, thats why it does not work. Make sure you edited your db.properties right, and the constants java file i edited in the video.

Hi, RuffRyder. I am new to maplestory private server development. Thanks for providing the tutorial.

I wish to learn how to develop rather than just following the steps to set up a private server. I have basic knowledge on programming but I hope there is some guide to let me understand the structure rather than reading the code file by file, line by line.

Is there any thread of tutorial like this that I can start with?

Another question: I see many people start it is better to start with MoopleDev v83. MoopleDev v83 mean that I only can run with Maplestory v83 only? Can I use v142 instead?

- Did you know packet when login?(hander script)
i will detect it and check in database.

2.Use up skill and status in client.
- Did you know script to check or update skill points and status points.

Start all Services also and make sure your database configuration is correct i.e the source is same login credits as your mysql ( default root user name and no password port 3306 )

If all else fails, why the hell you using wamp, use xampp

Actually I have NaviCat SQL20xx MySQL myphpadmin all those installed. I think something is messed up.

For the password, I already had one b4 trying to make this server. I type in the password I use in the mysqlwork bench and the properties and the JAR or anywhere that has a reqest for root and password.

Is this meant to not have a password?

I also left the ourstoryv144 unchanged to try if it works.

-I have the WZ files
-I have the .jar files ( Edited like how the vid showed and left the ourstoryv144 unchange, Same as the Database I name it as ourstoryv144)
-I recopied the JCEPolicyJDK7 into the respective folders

Depending on how you installed mysql and all that shit, you had an option to add a password, but by default there isn't. The same credentials you use to log into your database or w/e (i dont like navicat) has to be the same inside the source. The source database properties need to be the same so it can connect

Yes, I did all those correctly. I keyed in the exact password I used for the other private servers I made. same credentials.

Can u list where in source or netbean/eclipse I need to change ip address?

I found some ip address points to nexon 8.xx.xx.xx

Yes everyone must have the redirector. And everyone must be in your connection on hamachi. Then have them type in your hamachi IP address and you have to use that same address (everyone uses the same IP).

You have to use a v83 source with maplestory v83, they are not interchangable. You can update them to other versions but its not easy. I am also new at coding maplestory private servers so I cannot help you in that regard, I dont believe there are tutorials for coding. But I haven't looked much.

You don't need to change the IP for java files. Only change the IP address in channel.properties.

Actually I have NaviCat SQL20xx MySQL myphpadmin all those installed. I think something is messed up.

For the password, I already had one b4 trying to make this server. I type in the password I use in the mysqlwork bench and the properties and the JAR or anywhere that has a reqest for root and password.

Is this meant to not have a password?

I also left the ourstoryv144 unchanged to try if it works.

-I have the WZ files
-I have the .jar files ( Edited like how the vid showed and left the ourstoryv144 unchange, Same as the Database I name it as ourstoryv144)
-I recopied the JCEPolicyJDK7 into the respective folders

I kinda redid the whole vid. I tried Netbean to compile too. Didn't work.

Try connecting a CMS (website) to your mysql to see if your connection to your sql actually works. http://forum.ragezone.com/f690/beta-maplebitcms-977439/

Copy the files into your .../wamp/www folder replacing the two files in there. And then type localhost into your browser with wampserver online and then follow the instructions to setup your site (some screenshots in the original cmd thread to help with installation). Then when your server is setup, register a new account and see if your database updated with the new account.

I can't log into the game which you suggested in your thread to download from;

MSSetupv142.exe
MSSetupv142.z01

MSSetupv142.z03
MSSetupv142.z04
And kept them in the same folder.

I double clicked at "MSSetupv142.exe" for installation and let it run till complete.
Then, I copied these files;
IP Redirect Tool.exe
iRedirectoRX.dll
iRedirectoRX.exe
And pasted them at the installed folder.

After that I double clicked "IP Redirect Tool.exe" and followed the following steps;
1. Click Start Connection ... It shown like this

Did you try running maplestory and IP Redirect Tool.exe as administrator? To run maplestory as administrator, right click it and go to properties and go to compatibility and then check the box that says run as admin. Remember to close ur connection on the ip redirect tool, try closing it then opening it again when u start it as admin.

I have done as follow and still cannot fix it

(Put a mark at) Run this program as an admintstrator
Apply and click ok

Right click at IP Redirect Tool.exe and click at Run as administrator
Click at "Start Connecction" and click at "Start MapleStory"

Click Play, and the program just kick me out like this...

I am not sure on how to fix this issue but I can keep giving suggestions. Can you right click maplestory.exe and go to details and reply with the file version.

And try using the other redirector (run as admin again), its called iRedirectoRX, type in the IP address 127.0.0.1 and click launch

Hey apologis for the late reply. the problem I fixed was with the root and password thingy.
I removed the password I set in the MySQL workbench, it didn't work like the old days where u set root and pw, it applied to all database in it, Its more of a isolated password for each db. So I simply remove the password attached to it and then I remove all the password I set in the properties too.

Fired it up and viola~! That is how I got it to run somehow. Hope it works for you guys too. Its pretty buggy, I had to recreate lots of character due to Warp to Warp error.

Also the problem with lot of the Admin command not working. I can't give myself the GM ROAR thingy.. MSI NPC I tried to make failed too. lots of red underline in the netbean and I could not build it. Overall its a great feel to be able to run your own server etc.. Thanks for this RuffRyder93.

Did you run maple story normally for the first time w/o using the redirector, for me I ran it normally thinking I would like to play GMS but it turns out I cant play due to not in NA " I assume that is the case "

It patched for me. then I ran the redirector. Didn't had your problems thou. firewall setting needs to off.
run either redirector in admin mode.

check if u have add the local host thing inside your windows => system32 => driver => etc => filename host


Example below.

Thanks for the Tutorial! got it up and running, only problem is it works for 5 seconds then lags for 15,
I initially used IP redirect tool, I tried to fix the issue uding iRedirectoRX but says iRedirectoRX.dll failed to initialize :(

Um, changing redirectors shouldn't matter. I believe that depends on how good your computer is. But if you want to still try, just make sure the iredirectorrx.DLL is in the maplestory folder as well. Just reextraxt the redirect folder contents

ran it as administrator and it worked smoothly using IredirecotoRX, next step to get quests working! thanks for the tutorial been trying to get a private server up and running for a long time and this worked! :D

Well this probably means you dont have that program. Not 100% sure how to fix the error, the version of your maplestory is 142.1, it should be 142.2, which should automatically update when you run it. Weird.

You probably glitched up your sql somehow, just drop the schema and then run that sql file again and make the admin account again.

This source is not good at all. Its good if you want to code it yourself, but if you want a stable build, I would suggest a v117 source, they are much more stable then this release.

and yea i dropped it and im runing it now again.

can someone help me? when i click done to create character it not going to Select Character screen.but it stuck in Customize Screen.i can click only back button but when login to game again it stuck in Channel Select screen.i can fix by remove character row in mysql. and it happen again when i create new character. i think i didnt do anything wrong. i will ask my friend to create character. if someone can fix it pls help me!!!
