¤ The Complete PW Package ¤

Ok, I have searched all over the place for this and found nothing current or relevant, so I'm going to ask the question. Bear in mind, I am not familiar with Linux-based systems, not my field of expertise so I'm learning this as I go.

My question is, WTH do I access the server files? I have this annoying Trace notification that I need to redirect and I cannot find where the Start Server script is...

Also, the PWAdmin page (accessed via IP Address) is not loading, I have a Static IP set to this server (my own, in-house physical server), I have confirmed that the VM Bridge is working, the IP set for the PW Server is the same as the static IP on my device. Still won't load. I followed the video exactly. Is there some additional step in the current release that is missing from the video to connect to the web portal? Or does this behave differently if there is a Static IP assigned?

I feel like I'm missing a crucial piece of information here, but that would make sense, considering I know very little about Linux.

343, long time no see. I miss the days when you could run this on a Windows device...

Edit: Ok, never mind about how to access the File Structure. I got that now. Where in the file structure is the Server Start script so I can get rid of this obnoxious Trace notification.

Edit: Ok, I got the server working. But there are still A LOT of TRACE notifications going down the screen. I have tried redirecting those, but nothing seems to work. Not sure where they are coming from.

Does anyone have working gshop files for the 155 release in this package? I have tried a few options and they cause the game to give an Unknown Error (-1).

Thanks. It works!

Now I'm trying to discover why does some items that I've added to my char put Map Service (gs) offline :/

It's the first time that I'm creating a PW Server. I have tried so many times before, but it never have worked like now rs
I know it's really late (like almost a decade too late) but for anyone that has a trouble with this : export the server files as v55 while the client as v56 and it should be fine. at least for 1.3.6

Any saved links for 1.3.6 server and client files?
I made a back up of the client on google drive, don't know how long it'll last but still

Specifically, I'm not too sure. I can however say that the PW_DEV.iso has a metric crap ton of crap; so if it's anywhere - it's probably in there! If not specifically, then I recall there's also a few "hex guides" (like the one from Drakaer) as well that will/should cover the basic premise of all "hex data" for the game!

~~~~~ UPDATE ~~~~~
First post updated to finally contain the TORRENT and the Magnet... Only "catch" is RZ would NOT let me upload a .torrent directly so it's a .torrent IN a .7z (.7zip) Also, the magnet is a pretty darn long link, so it's wrapped inside a spoiler tag OR downloadable as a TXT file...
~¤ ENJOY ¤~
Hey 343, is that the same torrent that's in my signature (not specifically the file itself, I mean if I seed that one will people downloading this one manage to get it off of me or is that a completely different instance?
I do not have a good understanding of torrent mechanics yet, though I have been seeding the one in my signature off and on, finally upgraded my system to do it 24/7 independently of my actual craptop - an in a month I'll be getting a half gigabit pipe. So I mostly wonder if I should switch to the one you linked or if it doesn't matter (I think torrents only care about hashes of files which should be identical?).
Final stat after retiring the torrent on my craptop, though there might have been more seeding before, no idea anymore really:
Another question, I've been meaning to make some guides and possibly tools/modifications when I actually find time plus sharing some notes I made over the years, that are specifically based on/referring to your release - would you be okay with that? Most of it is what I would call "noob spoonfeeding" and "typical mistake" fixing, but mostly in case someone wants to just run a server locally for their own fun, not all those people who want to set up a private server and then try to make money off of p2w bull**** if you know what I mean?
Ive been out of this for a while so i could be way off but id say the patch portion of the client is misconfigured if you are playing on the local network maybe put localhost or 127.0.0.1
Just as a place to start I would verify that your network connection for the virtual machine is setup as bridged. Once that is done I would go through and check how the Auth Daemon is running, making sure that the IP is set properly, paths are correct, etc. Then from there I would make sure it has the ability to communicate with your SQL server. Libraries libraries libraries.
From what I remember 9 times out of 10 a server network error is almost always related to an issue with the auth daemon communicating with the sql service.. ref this
I will try to keep my eyes here and help where I can when im not giving my soul to my job :cat:
Could the creator please confirm the function of the .gproxyd folder within PWServer, which also has a startup script alongside Ubuntu? Best regards.
Hello gang!
Myself and a friend used this guide to successfully get online a 1.4.6 server! (Big thanks to 343 - seriously).
We are now attempting to do a 1.5.5 server. We're running into an issue with the following error "Client program version is low." and it asks us to update. I'm not running the server side (my friend is) - I believe the issue is just us needing to run a patch. Will update if that's the case. But if anyone else has run into that same issue - please let me know! We've tried the gshop/timecode solution found somewhere else and that did not seem to fix the problem.
But I do have a specific question I'm hoping someone could help me with.
We'd like to start adding custom items, things like "Pick All" being able to get rid of the slow "Flight Speed Acceleration", etc. From my research - I've seen that to do those things, you need the source code for the version you're working on.
If our version is 1.5.5 v156 (what I believe is in this guide), where would we find the source code for this version in order to edit it? I've looked and looked and looked on this forum and various other sites but to no avail.
Would love a nudge in the right direction.
Thank you!
Is this version any different from the other published versions 1.5.1 v101, like the holes are closed where they shouldn't be?
I will open by saying "wow" I cannot believe there is still interest in this package; going strong apparently almost FIFTEEN YEARS NOW... Sorry I haven't been around too much but I will check in every now and then... I do see a lot of questions and a lot of answers and a lot of people apparently figuring things out on their own (which was actually the whole point of this release/package)... So please do NOT discouraged if anyone (especially me) doesn't reply to you ~ KEEP AT IT -- YOU GOT THIS! ;)
Now, to at least respond to this one ~ one of the MANY things I have seen over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and (I think you get the point)...
But yes, the culprit is ALWAYS a problem with AUTHD "communicating" with MYSQL ~ 100% of the time ~ ALWAYS
and I do believe the reason that is listed in Fluzzy's reference, is because I've said it over and over and over and over (https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/server-network-error.826785/) ;)
But, then of course, is the "FUN" part - where, YOU have to figure out WHY authd and mysql are having a problem "communicating" with each other! In theory, as long as you've literally changed NOTHING this should NOT be an issue. Possible examples of reasons as to why it could happen would be: changing MySQL password. One example as to this happening even though you didn't change anything, as Fluzzy stated, could even be something like a network setting/issue (especially if running the server in a VM as the same machine you're trying to log in from the client)...
But anyway, I am super glad to see people having continued interest in this package; and to see them LEARNING ~ since that is why I made this in the first place.
That being said; I am almost sure that any 'standard links' will be dead (think I saw that being said too) that does NOT surprise me. As the Mega account I was using was a "free" account AND was over it's limit LOL (50GB at the time as it's an old account). However now that the release is > 50GB, well, it went without saying we HAD to go the TORRENT route anyway...
That being said, do NOT expect any "links" (or mirrors) to be fixed or working any time soon. The primary reason those existed in the first place (to be honest) was to get people that wanted to help START the TORRENT, able to get everything downloaded faster!
So, that being said; PLEASE SEED THE TORRENT (the latest one on POST #1 of the thread)...
Can help to support for run in Ubuntu 20.04
Can help to support for run in Ubuntu 20.04
Sorry but, in a nutshell, no...
I made this package so that others could use it to learn from it... It very specifically requires the version of Ubuntu that it does because of all the x86 libraries that it needs. And as much as my scripts "suck" (I was brand new to scripting on Linux during these time frames), they WILL accomplish the goal of installing this with ZERO external dependencies what-so-ever. That is why it "requires" Ubuntu 12.04. It has and installs an offline version of ia32-libs! This would not work on ANY other version... I understand that almost everyone is "online" now-a-days but the goal was to be able to install this package with NO external dependencies (IE the "interwebs")... And it accomplishes that.
That being said, of course it will run on just about ANY version of Linux that you want it to; if you know what you're doing... If you do not know what you're doing then this package (as it is) should help you learn what you're doing! If you do not know what you're doing, there's NO reason NOT to run it on 12.04. Yes 12.04 is super antiquated but if you're just starting out and learning, there's NO reason to "keep up with the Jones's". There is no real reason to "want" to run this on 24.10 (for example)...
All that being said and, the ONLY reason this package was even developed for Ubuntu was because Ubuntu is a well known name, and they (at least were) known for being rather n00b friendly. It's crazy how certain other distros literally scare people, even just by name. That being said; PW servers would run much more efficiently on just about any flavor of RHEL (RHEL, CentOS, hell even fedora)...
Also, as a side note; since this is SO outdated (x86) I do hear that getting it running on newer/newest (x64) systems can actually be quite the *****... Having to deal with finding/installing all the requisite x86 libs to make this work (all the more reason to just stick with 12.04)...
The final nail in the coffin would be; granted I have tried to "walk away" from this (completely) I do not know how many times ~ SOMETHING keeps bringing me back... Even if it is only to "check in" and say Hi! That being said; I cannot really offer any "new" support for such an old package (this came out in 2011) I've been at this going on 15 years!!! That being said it should not even really need support (for what it is) because it has been so "fine tuned" that it really should work straight out of the box!
But yes, sorry, no "new" support (like making it work for 20.04) will be offered... At least by me... Hopefully you understand!
My "advice" would be, get it working and get very familiar with it (on Ubuntu server 12.04)... Then once you're a "master" you will not even need to ask anyone how to make it work on any version, or any other distribution for that matter too, that you wish!
Hello all, long time pwi lover trying to set up a tiny server for some old friends to get together on. I am having an issue where I cannot get the webpage hosted on my ip to connect, I have followed 343's youtube vid and installed on VMware 17.5.2 followed by . If possible I would just like a nudge in the direction I should go. My only guess right now is maybe this wont work with VMware 17.5.2 or win10 issues? Thank you!
You might be having the same problem I was,. Try going through this to make sure your VM is *Actually* connecting to the network.
(yes that says it's for win8, but i just did it on my win10 host with VMware 17.x setup)
Once you've done that, try pinging between the host and the VM. on the VM it's "Ping -c3 [host IP address]" so for *example* "ping -c3 192.168.1.30"
also ping from the host to the VM, in windows it's in command prompt then "ping [server IP]" so for example, "ping 192.168.1.171".
If both of those work, try to ping google from the VM. "ping -c3 google.com"
If the pings all work, try going to the website again (with the server running). if the pings don't work, continue down that rabbit hole until you can successfully ping.
If the pings work, and you still can't reach the webpage, idk, hopefully someone else will have the answers. good luck!
