Two days ago I was minding my own business in the squadbay when my combat instructor tells me to go up to third deck and sit on a bench. I felt like a criminal not knowing what was about to be said to me. They tell me to go back downstairs, I'm pretty confused. Then my instructors tell me to come into the office and a Jewish chaplain was sitting in the office chair beyond he computer desk. I'm Christian so I was really showing complete befuddlement. He tells me my grandmother passed away. It hit me like a sucker-punch to the face. She was fine three days ago! I couldn't suppress my emotions and broke down in tears. It's even difficult to type this out. I'm in an airplane right now flying to the funeral.
May the Marines who guard the streets of heaven protect my grandmother.
