Thank you for reading and trying to help. First I will give all the info I can possibly think of to help you help me :)

The router I have is the linksys 54g with the alchemy firmware- Firmware Version: Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv.

My ISP is charter.

I used this server guide to the tee http://forum.ragezone.com/f114/ascent-server-guide-last-update-11-04-07-a-319188/

Now even with the ports forwarded my friend could not connect to my server. he kept getting a connection error. I then tried putting the server on the dmz and yet he still could not connect. So I was confused and wondered if it may be my router or client so i set up appache and made a test page to see if he could connect to that. He could not so I changed the appache to port 8080 he could connect to that. But he still cant connect to my wow server. Anyone have any ideas? If you need more info I'll be glad to help. Also anyone on my lan can connect just fine.

Hi. I made another post about this to another person about this.
I was having this problem myself. Iam using a Linksys WRT54GL myself. Iam pretty hardcore with internet routers and firewalls, since iam working with IT everyday at work. after alot of struggle with my own firewall, and i knew i did everything right, i found out that the adsl modem i got from my isp did all the mess, and i called my ISp and told them about it, and 2 days later, i got a brand new modem from them, and another kind of modem, it was one that i could configure myself, that i couldnt with my old one.
After i got all my ports setup, and the new modem online with my Linksys. BAM my server was online.

Maybe if your router are behind a adsl modem, maybe you should call your isp and talk to them about it.

hmm ill have to try that when i get back home. You think that could be the problem? because I can still use remote connect, appache web server and all that. the only thing that dosent seem to work is the server.
