I recently received news from a friend of Cypher's that both he and Chumpwumpy have been arrested following a court order started by EST Soft`s law team.

Apparently chumpwumpy alone is being charged for USD$130,000 losses a month! This seems to have been calculated by the number of private servers actually using his files and an average player count based on the more popular ones, this is completely unfair.

Following the guidelines set out in judgements on recent filesharing cases they estimate the damage to be upwards of a few million USD.

This is outrageous and my heart goes out to them and their families. I will do my best to keep you up to date on any developments.

Wow... WTF.
Good luck to them, I don't really know what to say. That sucks. A lot. It shouldn't have happened; the person who leaked the original files that Chumpy has been building off of needs to be punished, not these two.
I hope the case is as idiotically set up as it sounds, and therefore they can get out of it with little to no charges/payouts, but the chances of that... aren't that high IMHO.
I'd like to thank them for working on these files so long and just wish the best for them.

Hmm. Its a bit funny that this is happening AROUND April 1st?!?

Any why havn't they shut down ragezone and follow all people that have the server files????

They also are moderators, they can ban themselves!
There computers dont host ANY of the ragezone forum so why would their computers be taken away. They can access the server files from here by making a login username.

NOT REAL PEOPLE!

You think this is some kind of joke, emi? Neither Chumpy nor Cypher would do something like this. I can't get ahold of either of them on their phones, and they weren't online for a few days before this announcement. Still think this is a joke? ¬_¬ The fact that this was posted on/around this day is pure coincidence and nothing else.

@Daman: The same goes to you... Also, mods can't ban people. They can only infract.

As I understand they are both now at home and safe, the date for the 1st court hearing will be set soon.

I dont think you understand how this works at all, please stop making random assumptions. btw mods cannot ban themselves or other mods, this is an inbuilt safety feature.

As sub-admin I have removedmod access from their accounts to protect the rest of my team.

Yea,maybe someone kidnap them=)))
Be serious:))No one would arrest them for that, that means that Rz would be down by now...and many servers would be close...
Sorry i won't believe it!:)

I've just got off the phone with Chumpy. Here's a little update:

Basically, ESTSoft are attempting to sue him for 130k USD for each server that's using the files he "modified to enable easier use by non-licensed third-parties". They're claiming a loss of earnings due to the above accusation. His attorney has assured him that they WON'T be able to get the full amount they are asking for, but he will have to pay a HUGE amount (up to 68.5% of their requested amount). They're also claiming that Chumpy has been "gaining a profit by working as a server setup engineer". This is COMPLETE Dangle-Plums, as Chumpy would never do something like this for a monetary gain!
Chumpy is currently on bail awaiting a hearing. Part of the terms of his bail are that he's not allowed access to "any online resource pertaining to or related to online gaming", which includes coming on RaGEZONE...

P.S. Once I know exactly how much Chumpy will have to pay, I'm going to setup a fundraising event to help him out. If anyone's interested in participating, even just by donating, let me know.

Let's all wish Chumpy the best.

P.P.S. I'm not sure what's going on with Cypher, yet. I still haven't been able to contact him :S
