finally! After filling out a form on the internet a week and-a-half ago, I got my class c license in the mail. This new license takes away any restriction the class d and permit had (both had curfew and limited people in the car), the only thing it has is it still has "under 21" on it.
What sucks is I heard that kids in the same town who want their permit (not license) have to pay $425 and a two month-long driver's course. Well I guess better safe than sorry (actually I did a course like that as well but it gave me a discount on my car insurance and taught me a hella lot about driving).
Let me explain the order of licenses you get in the US (responding to kartong's post and to keep from posting another post).

When you want to apply for a permit (provisional license) you need to be 15 and I believe every test for the permit is different in each state (mine was a 20 question test....wow...). After you get your permit you can only drive with family members 21 and over (also you don't need insurance to drive with a permit).

A year and a day later you can apply for your Class D license. To do this you need to make a two-month appointment prior to the test (times varies in states). Once you get in you have to drive around and park and go on this course. After you pass (or fail and pass some other time) you get it (license). Six months after you get that license you are able to drive other people around, as when you first get it, it's only family members and yourself. You have to be insured to drive with a class D. no exceptions.

you can get a Class C license when you turn 18 and all you have to do is fill out a form.

Mean... Here in MA you get your permit on your 16th birthday or after and then you can take the exam for the class D license 6 months after you get your permit.

Then you have a JOL status up to you are 18 limiting the time you can stay out. Onlything C here lets you do with the ammount of people is let you drive busses. You can still drive a mini/half bus or large vans (if private) with a B. But to drive them commercially you need a C.

And yeah driving courses are a bitch. Here in MA we have to spend about $500 for the course for drivers ed as its required if you are under 18 and if you are 18 or over you don't have to take it but if you do you get money off of your insurance.

what is the C license for?

IN the state of MA, TN, and KY it goes like this.

A - Tractor Trailer
B - Large box trucks
C - Busses and comercial vehicles
D - General Licence
M - Motor bikes only

NoPeace - out

Good job. In the UK you can apply for a provisional license 2 weeks before your 17th birthday. Once you're 17 you take a theory test (35 questions and a hazard perception test) then the practical driving test. Then you're done and can drive.

Why would anyone need higher then C (unless work)?

Gratz 'course :D

We can make the real test at 16 birthday, and the theory from 13 I believe.

P.S. Automatic ruines the fun in driving, you loose the feeling of control and such, also automatic is boring!

yeah..... we just get a driving test that involves a theory test + real test.... on differences are you can go for an automatic or stick..... Who the hell uses automatics unless there lazzy?

I am like you, I don't like automatic much as I feel it loses the fun of driving and the control that you get with Manual I feel is more fun. Still I disagree with your statement of it being Lazy as I know there is some people who just plain out struggle a lot with it. My Auntie for example struggles a lot but also driving with someone who is disable and has a tendency to be disruptive, she doesn't have that much concentration to give. Also, I have to say there is a lot of countries that drive nothing but Automatic, UK is just different, everyone likes Manuel.

Anyways I am planning to get my Permit here in America soon so I can get driving. Have fun with your new license.

Will, can I drive with you in your car?

heh thanks guys. lol shame nopeace somedays I just love being in Georgia. Hey Robert I'm not lazy >:O. I drive what my parents let me drive, and all of our cars our auto.

Moo, you guys have it so easy :P
Here we can get a permit at 16 but we can't get our license untill we're 18.
Obligatory hazard test (artificial slippery road thingy), theory test and a practical driveup.
They got quite high demands for it to and no corruption^^

A1= Light motorcycle (16 years-ish).
A= Middle weight motorcycle (18) and by 20 you can do a normal driveup and get allowance to drive a heavy motorcycle but you must have had an A license for 2 years.
B= Car.
C= Lorry.
D= Buss.
BE= Car with heavy Trailer.
CE= Lorry with trailer.
DE= Buss with trailer.

and ofcourse you need to have had C for awhile before you can take CE and so on.

My own B license ended up at just above 2000$ with driving lessions and everything.

Grats on getting your lisencse mate!
In Australia you get your L's (Learners Permit) when your 16.
Which you have to be accompanied by an adult while driving.
and then you recieve your P's (Not sure, Probationary?) when you turn 18
Which allows you to drive solo, im not sure about any of the other restrictions.. besides the strictly 0.00 alchohol reading i think.
Then at 21 you get your full liscence :)
Not too sure about tests etc.
