Could anyone of you help me in the getting of a dedicatted root server on low cost.It will be for a L2 Server. The root server need to be able to hold about ~70 people. Please help me I am bored,I dont understand anything of CPU Configurations.Bored of searching 1 month for it...:rip:

Help please!

Buy yourself a dedicated computer and a second line for your house. Best bet for low cost. A 512k-1m up DSL lines cost about $70 usd a month + the cost of the computer.

I agree, the only thing i'd reccomend, (as i havnt worked with L2 servers) is that you check compatibility with Microsoft windows server edition, as it manages lag and net access alot better. Its also more stable and will pay off in the long run, And for a connection for 70 people, get another line, but i woulnt go for DSL, i'd go for T3 cable, but i dunno how much it is in america:eek6: ...

Or hell, move down to california, and hook into a Fiber line for cheap per month.. or run a dedicated line to yoru house.. 100meg up/down.. I have 3 friends who forked up the moeny per month to do that, and it is damned amazing, they host file servers ;)

$70? I don't know exactly how much we pay, but we have a 4mb DSL line and we don't pay $70 a month for it.

the big part of the payment, is getting them to connect yoru house into it.. thast where teh hefty fines are at, otehr then that.. the monthly is pretty decent rates for what you get on a fiber line.

I end up paying $100 a month right now for a 5 meg DSL line, only because I live way out in the boonies practically.. right in between 2 larger towns.. oh well -shrugs-

1) Don't bump up old and dead threads
2) Do you even know what T3 is? It is 28 T1 lines. Do you know what a T1 line is? It's 24 phone lines. Do do your math... A T3 is 672 phone lines! Now how much do you pay for a phone line? About $30 a month. So... $30*672 = $20,160 a month. Though phone companies usually give you a discount so it will be about $15,000 a month...

Kind of un-logical don't you think? Not to mention with a bandwidth of ~44mbps it's an over kill for 70 users.

What does a user use? <5 kbps? So with a T3 line you can host enough for about 8800 users at once!

Doubt anyone will have a server for that many people.

Now lets do the math a little more.

70 users at 5kbps. That would be 350kbps at once. So... A 512k upload would be more then enough. And with a aDSL line you can easily get that if you pay for it. And with Fiber Optic connection it's no problem at all.

Damn... How much does that cost them?

A 50/5 line in Boston costs about $300 a month. O.O

$70? I don't know exactly how much we pay, but we have a 4mb DSL line and we don't pay $70 a month for it.

Look at the upload I said. Most aDSL lines only have a 256k upload connection. And they only cost about $30-40 a month. So double the upload speed, the double the cost. ;)

What's the upload on that connection?

I live out in the boonies and a 5m/256k connection costs about $40. O.O

Though we have cable here that runs at 6m/256k for $45.

Damn Verison is taking to long to bring FiOS here. I want to get a damn 15/1 line for $45, but they are taking their time doing it. They have the fiber lines already installed in the area and they have been working on the local switch for months now but no service yet.

What kind of line? aDSL, sDSL, cable, or Fiber? And what is the upload. The upload part is what costs the most. Our cable connection here is rated at 6m but since we have a low traffic neighborhood and the switch is close we get speeds from 6m-10m. Then again people on the other end of town are lucky to get 5m. :1:

I'm running a 5000/768k line right now ;) The upload is damn handy indeed.. almsot twice the next connection below it.. a 3000/512

And for anyone that doesnt know.. divide those numbers by eight and thats what you rspeed is.. bits, not byte's ;)

So true 'registered' speed is: 625 KB down/ 96 KB up

But, since I'm using an emetered buisiness line (My buddy at the tech center hooked me up real well) My uplaod speed isnt capped at what its regietered at, and I cna regularly hit 700k+ on my download, sometimes upwoards of 750 depending on line traffic.

Bah you lucky bastard. I wish I could have that. It's a horror show trying to upload at 256kbps. Actually it only goes at about 180-190kbps if I'm lucky. Damn stupid cable.

Hmm here costs are i guess ok... here list...

All connections are XDS
10/10M 198euros/mo (268usd)
20/20M 220euros/mo (298usd)
50/50M 250euros/mo (338usd)
100/100M 295euros/mo (399usd)
1/1G 570euros/mo (772usd)

I find out that 1/1G connection quite cheap since it will be enought to any use even if you want put up your own hosting it will be good to that too :)

I personally got 100/100M line to my house in here finland :)

The 20/20 and up connections are unrealistic.

50/50 =~ an OC1 which costs about $20k a month.

And for a 20/20 connection you are looking at about $10k a month.

A cheap 10/10 fiber line will go for about 500 a month realistically.

And most definatly, I am positive that Fiber is the wet dream of every computer geek in the known world... since the government OC3's are unable to be opened to the public due to security restrictions.. we have to deal with our crappy connections :-(

Darn the Americas.. one problem we had was that we invented things too fast, then built our infrastructure around those inventions, and they got old.. now we are stuck with a junk load of copper telephone bundle wires all across America, and it'll take a miracle to build up a backbone like a lot of "smaller" countries have =)
