Never knew you could do that in RivaTuner. I haven't done it in a while and the only way it was done when I did was via a BIOS flash. Now that was a pain to do. Guess now it's no effort at all. :icon6:

They wanted to recycle them from older cards, but the PCI-E cards just didnt meet the low end requirements for recycling the disabled pipes. So they put thsoe chips into AGP cards. So in all reality.. yes, your card might support it unlocked, but it -will- produce artifacts, which is the primary reason they werent used in their older brother counterparts. Some to a lesser degree then others.. so if your able to unlock your pipes and be one of the lucky few without too many artifacts popping up on your screen.. all power to you

Not true. The 6800 AGP was made before the PCI-E version, also if it is a 6800 PCI-E OR AGP It doesn't matter. Same card. The 6800 is the downclocked version of the 6800 Ultra with disabled pipelines. Nothing less, nothing more. Some people do have the pipelines removed but most cards do not and they function fine. I know from experience

Not really the same card. The PCI-Ex and AGP version are quite different on how they are built. =P

The chip itself is the same on both platforms.

And it's not a downclocked version of the 6800 Ultra with disabled pipes.

It's a faulty GT chip. The GT/Ultra are the same chips. The difference is the GT chips are of lower grade and couldn't handle the higher clocks of the Ultra. Hence why the Ultra's were so rare to get. Only a few chips could yield the results required for the Ultra version.

With the plain version of the 6800 it was a different story and the same goes for the x800/x1800 GTO cards. When chips are made there are tons that a faulty but still work to a degree. So they close off the features that doesn't work fully.

Sure you can unlock them but that doesn't mean they will work and will always work. They wouldn't have locked it to begin with if it still worked. They would have just sold it as a GT chip and make more money for it.

So unlocking it is a game of chance. If you are lucky you'll have pipes that not faulty enough to do harm but in most cases they are and they will produce artifacts.
