I got everything working fine (Thors Hammer) with the gunbound classic 315 client. Although I notice that the server config says that up to v372 will work.

These links no longer work now but I'm wondering if someone could reupload or past an alternative link to any. I tried searching around a while but no luck. Basically I am just curious as to what was added to the client between from v315 to v368.

Nevermind it seems that the 417 client works with the TH server too if you change the settings.txt to allow that version and also emulate gameguard. This is good enough.

where I can find guide for setting server, turn on/off avatar, setting gold/xp rate, setting game event or something else

Turning on/off avatar is funcresctric - there are tutorials on that. Setting up gold/xp rate is via settings.txt of the server - that's self explanitory when reading the settings file. Setting up a game event is via fucrestrict. There is a tutorial for that.
